Hey guys. Decided to start a thread on Nintendo's most influential and highly successful machine, the Family Computer! I'm sure if you were born in the 80s, you'll remember the FC quite well smile.gif I have spent countless of hours with my Famiclone (Never owned the real deal) and had great fond memories playing it with my friends and family smile.gif

Until today, I still regard the machine as one the greatest home consoles EVER. The FC was very huge here in Malaysia (thanks to the pirates *grin*) so I'm pretty sure I'm not the only FC nut around tongue.gif Feel free to post anything related to it in this thread! I'd like to hear your stories about it smile.gif 8-Bit FTW!!! rclxm9.gif

Added on December 9, 2009, 6:16 pmThere were many Made In Taiwan clones of the FC here in Malaysia - Micro Genius is one of the more 'branded' clones released, the others were more generic and looks almost identical to the original, but with different color schemes (My clone is grey/white with orange turbo buttons). What clone model do you own? I'd like to know..

Interesting story, I used to think that the American design of the Famicom - the NES, was the original design the Famicom was based on. And one day, my schoolmate offered to sell me a genuine Famicom and I understood it as the American NES. When I recieved the console, I was disappointed, felt cheated, returned it and got my money back (He sold it to me at 50 ringgit!!!) I was obviously a stupid dork back then.. biggrin.gif

Looking forward to hear some of your stories here smile.gif

i got my NES (not the famicom) on 24th Dec 1988 as X-mas gift, also as a reward after I score 5As and 2Bs in my UPSR thumbup.gif

Still remember we went to Kuching Plaza (now a abandon ghost town) after our X-mas eve dinner, the only game shop there already rolling down their shutter.
But we managed to persuade him for one last deal for the day.

Cost my parent RM365 for it, with one free game.

Initially we want Contra, which is the hottest game of that time, but the shop doesn't allow it, too expensive he says. So we end up with a crappy game: Fist of North Star, which we only found out after a few years it's a pirated game pak doh.gif

but still... i've finished the game for hundred of times, even thou it's crappy tongue.gif

First cheat codes i learned was the Konami Code in Contra,

About the Contra can choose 4 persons, it was actually another title in Japan but they bought it over to US putting the title Contra to boost up sales. It was never in the Contra series and unrelated.

UUDDLRLRABSTART who can forget that? tongue.gif

i completed contra for first time with the cheat, last time 3 lifes is just ain't enough for a beginner like me

but eventually after playing it for hundred of times, i can finish the whole game twice in a roll without losing a single life thumbup.gif

but now... aduh~ playing back on DS and Wii already getting a continue screen on d first stage doh.gif laugh.gif

another thing I remember the most is at my uber rich fren's house, where he show off his original gold color catridge, Legend of Zelda
we are all like... "omg! omg! omg! gold catridge!!!" and he doesn't even let us to touch it tongue.gif

it's also the first game to incorporate save game feature, where last time we have to write down the save game code in a piece of paper where it always got lost doh.gif the worst will be playing some japanese games which their save game code is in jap, hard to see and hard to write doh.gif

i used to play card rolling dragonball rpg (JPN version) in microgenius
u have to arrange the card (with JPN characters) to make it "kame kameHA"

then there crazy football game(JPN) where u can only control 1 team (JPN team).
all the player (5 a side match) have special power like shaolin soccer
1 player has banana powerkick (the ball turned into banana)

the strongest team was brazil and their powerkic was piranha
the ball turned into piranha n bite the goalie until he stunned...and GOAL!!

this game is really inspired from the movie - Mr Vampire 殭屍先生 !

I can still remember the song.

Taoist master's image is based on 林正英's 一眉道人 (of course 殭屍先生 as well)

when you go back to the end of the room, the assistant (which based on 许冠英's image) will come out!

I wish there'll be a remake for DS/Wii!!! thumbup.gif

read more HERE

in deed is a very memorable game during our childhood.

RIP 林正英 - the greatest Vampire Slayer/Exorcist of Chinese Ghost Movie of all time!

Wow! Finally this thread got some attention! Interesting stories guys! Damn I wish I could play those cool JP card + RPG games. I can't read Chinese at all sad.gif Beating Rockman with just one life?! You must be a super expert! Rockman is such a big star now, prices for the original FC versions especially Rockman 2 is so high at the moment. It's good to know that you guys still cherish the good ol times smile.gif Fist Of Northstar.. lol. When I first saw it on the cartridge label, I thought it was gonna be an awesome game. Took it back and was disappointed, but played quite a bit so that I don't feel cheated biggrin.gif The sound effect of Ken was pretty neat though tongue.gif Did any of you guys played Recca? It's gotta to be the best shmup for the FC. It's currently in the mail and can't wait to play it (Pirated version of course!) The graphics and sound is just phenomenal!

I love BattleCity! I played it alot with my bro and even my dad! Finding the original one now is pretty hard and expensive!! It was released during the Namcot says (now known as Namco). Very addictive and I like the map editor feature.. very neat!! Ice Climber is a great little game too... so many nice classics for the FC smile.gif
