when watch SD chanel will clearer than now?

I think PQ should be the same as before for SD contents. Unless the box has an excellent built-in scaler. But I doubt it would be any better than most good branded plasma/lcd TV.

I don't have it, but I do remember that these were the few (correct me if i'm wrong):
MTVasia
All STARTV channels available on astro--> this is good enough to kill the deal
HBO?
All TVB related channels/medias
*
I think all EPL games are exclusive to Astro also.

And... the have rights for ALL the world cup games next year.

Practically, Astro is pretty invincible now.

Look you can revert back to RCA , that way it always works. Sure its not the best quality but if you're recording and wanna view back later its okay. Its not like you want to record every fine detail. For me , when i record drama/sit-com or some important event , i just wanna watch. I dont care much about the quality anyway
*
Agreed. I watched Blu ray using 3plug RCA and SQ and PQ was really good though no Hi Def.
And you can't record HD content coz of the HDCP protocol, hope you know that. Make it simple, watch in HD, record is SD.

Sport channels like ESPN are better off with 1080i instead of progressive 720p. High-motion sports are better with with the higher frame-rate 1080i streams instead of the lower frame-rates of 720p.

BTW, most sports channels broadcasts in 1080i, at least the OTA satellite channels in Germany and France. The Sky HD that broadcast EPL matches in UK is also 1080i. History Channel HD in Europe is also 1080i (I have some of their TS here for testing), only National Geographic is still 720p.

The general rule is 1080i is for sport channels or movies or anything that shows fast-paced action scenes. 720p is mostly for documentaries, where still-scenes are more common.
*
wow, new info for me. Thanks. And if the TV has excellent line doubler, 1080i should produce better picture I suppose.

This sound like a ridiculous request. You are telling them that HBO should not have the same content as HBO HD. You lost the point of Astro Byond and to be honest I think even their staff will laugh to see such demand.
*
I tend to agree. It's not time yet to charge per HD channel.

Mine was quite fast. Monday morning called to register, 6pm same day called by cs to confirm t&c, friday 6pm came and installed.

Need improvement quickly:
1) Picture on HD channels sometimes is lost even tho the sound is there. On/off decoder solves problem.
2) The 4:3 source display should be more than 2 only i.e pillarbox and stretched. Should have other modes like smart stretch, panaromic and zoom like in most flat TVs.
3) Sound often got echo especially on supersport channel.
4) The decoder should have audio output option either through HDMI, digital coax or analog. Currently audio is output simultaneously on all outputs. If your TV use HDMI and if you set sound to DD5.1 on the decoder, your TV will make loud buzzzz sound. Alternatively, the HDMI output can have auto detect like in PS3 to see if the monitor supports DD5.1, and if not, downmix to stereo.

Hope to see firmware updates soon.

Other than that, Astro B.yond...... KICKS SERIOUS ASSSS!!!! thumbup.gif

I am having problem to transfer DD5.1 channel from the astro box set to my panasonic blu-ray home theater system (SC-BT205). Astro is using coaxial cable connection whereas my home theater only allows connection via 2 digital optical cables. At the moment, the sound is transferred to the home theater via the sony bravia tv using red/white cable but with this connection i only can get the stereo sound and not DD5.1.

I'm also facing difficulties to use parallel connection to my crt tv downstair. The picture is ok although not as good as the lcd tv but the sound will on/off occasionally.

Would appreciate any suggestion(s) to fix the problems.

There's nothing you can do if your HT system doesn't have a digital coax input. You can only channel out stereo sound from astro box. I blame on both sides coz any AV multimedia should have at least one of both coax and optical inputs/outputs.

On the intermittent sound problem, it could be coz you're running digital sound out and analong at the same time. Should never happen but even on a single HDMI connection to TV, we sometimes lose pictures or left and right stereo sound not synch. It's only intermittent and I can accept it. They will fix by firmware updates but I don't know when. Live with it smile.gif

How about with the DD5.1 channels downgraded to stereo PCM, should sound as good too I guess with Dolby PLII?

I noticed that the SD channels now sounded better than the old decoder, simply because there is no analogue conversion and the audio is kept in digital form all the way to the amp... then it could also mean that my old Nokia SD set must have been using some cheap op-amp chip for the RCA audio output... just my RM0.02  tongue.gif

Agree bro... stereo sound on all channels is more realistic now thumbup.gif

Don't expct too much for RM20 extra ... take it easy la... it will get better over time. But I'm still thankful to astro for bringing HD to us... How many can afford Bluray to make full use of your HDTV...? I only have 10 BDs and already think I have spent too much.

I think more people have to give feedback on DD5.1 to Astro. i called them, they say so far nobody complain about DD5.1. It's really frustrating, Dark knight, picture so clear, but the surround sound through AVR sucks!  sad.gif

Had mine installed yesterday (Sunday, 27th), after first registering on the 15th and numerous phone calls to hassle them.

Had one problem tho, when i chose DD5.1, the sounds are ok for the SD channels but terribly creaking sound for the HD channels. Audio is via HDMI connections to the Pioneer plasma. Anyone had similar problem?
I faced the issue of soft volume as well. Complaint and they said astro looking into it.

Your Plasma doesn't support 5.1, so you must choose 2ch in your configuration. If you want to choose 5.1, you must connect coax to your amp, and mute your TV. Then you can hear 5.1 from your AV surround system. Alternatively, you can connect HDMI from byond to your amp and from amp to TV. But you need to turn on amp everytime watching byond. Either way, you must have a 5.1 av amp to hear 5.1 sound.
Err... the byond should be smart enough to detect if your TV doesn't support 5.1, it should downmix to 2ch instead of silence or loud buzz... apara....
