QUOTE(robinlim @ Dec 9 2009, 09:43 AM) Read from yesterday's the Star In-Tech that it'll launch before end of the year the HD content can support up to 1080i and even comes with surround sound wonder how's the price like and the video bitrate that it delivers I still have no idea about 720p vs 1080i.Yes, P stands for progressive while I is interlaced but what are they really? If not mistaken, progressive is always better than interlaced. So now should we get a 1080p tv or a 720p?

QUOTE(kaneshi @ Dec 9 2009, 10:20 AM) A friend of mine who works in Astro will be getting her Astro HD decoder in 2 weeks time, and it's free for them. :-D She also mentioned the actual date of Astro HD launching to the consumers is on 18th Dec. Okay, do we need to pay for the new decoder? What about the dish?

QUOTE(pirateguy @ Dec 12 2009, 01:26 AM) 1080p of course. But Astro only does 720p and 1080i. Only way you can get 1080p is via blu-ray or high def movie downloads. But i'm sure u know that watching 720p on a 1080p tv wouldn't be as good as 720p on 720p.That's what i'm asking.

QUOTE(pirateguy @ Dec 12 2009, 08:08 AM) Why would a 1080p TV would not be as good as a 720p TV when watching 720p channel? Both are having the same aspect ratio. LOL isn't it obvious? The PQ wouldn't be as sharp as 720p on 720p.Just the same concept as playing 640x480 video on a 1920x1080 resolution...the video gets more pixelated

I'm just concerned that some of the movies in HBO are not even in original HD resolution. But they will be upscaled?

QUOTE(ar188 @ Dec 12 2009, 10:42 AM) 1.Are u sure the 720p tv u have is a true 1280x720p? Where u have 1:1 pixel mapping? 2. 640x480 is 4-3 ratio. 1920x1080 tv is 16-9. Surely some horizontal stretching required. My bad.. Should have said "800x480 on a 1080p TV"

QUOTE(twL @ Dec 13 2009, 02:27 PM) i know this, i have movie and documentary package.... waiting for the result on the quality of SD channel with astro hd decorder.. I'm expecting when one buys a 1080p TV, the quality of the HD channels would be good but the other channels would be worst unless they are gonna be upscaled
