Here are some Frequently asked question regarding FROYO.

1.Why doesn't my HTC Desire have the Froyo version of Android?

We have been working on these phones for some time before Froyo was announced. In order to make these phones available to you as soon as possible, we had to launch them with the previous version of Android. However your phone will most likely get an update to the new Froyo version.

2.Will you upgrade my phone to Froyo?

If your phone was launched this year, we will most likely offer an upgrade for it to the Froyo version. This includes popular models like the Desire and Droid Incredible as well as hotly anticipated phones like the Evo 4G, MyTouch slide and upcoming models. We will announce a full list of phones and dates once we are closer to launching the upgrades.

3.When will my phone get an upgrade?

We are working closely with Google and our other partners to ensure we have the earliest access to everything we need to provide a complete and solid Sense experience on Froyo. We expect to release all updates in the second half of this year but can't be more specific yet.

4.It took much longer than you claimed to release the Éclair update for the Hero and Droid Eris, how do we know the Froyo won't be delayed too?

We have learned much from our first software upgrade experience and have taken all that into account when providing this estimate. While we are fairly sure this timeframe is accurate, we cannot guarantee it 100%. We won't rush to release an upgrade that is not ready for you to use without fear of problems, but we will do our best to hit our target.

5.How come my hero or droid Eris isn't getting an update to Froyo?

We feel that the Eclair update we are currently launching for these phones offers similar functionality and works much better in the smaller memory size of these phones. Why can't you just release a Google experience version of Froyo for the hero or Eris? We believe our users have grown to depend on many of the features of Sense not offered by Google's user experience. We believe Sacrificing those features would be more of a loss than users would gain in the changes from 2.1 to 2.2.

6.Will your Froyo update include wifi tethering? will carriers charge extra for it?

This decision will be a collaborative one between HTC and our carrier partners. It will likely differ between models and between carriers.

HTC has confirmed to Pocket-lint that "Most phones launched this year will get an upgrade to [Android] 2.2." following the announcement that Google will be releasing the latest version of the mobile phone OS in the next couple of week.

However those hoping that they're newly bought HTC Desire or HTC Legend will be getting the Google Android 2.2 update, previously called Froyo, before the summer, think again.

Our man in HTC has told us the bad news that "Updates will come in the second half of the year."

"As we get closer to readiness, we'll reveal a full list, but for now have started with the most popular models like Desire [in the UK] and Droid Incredible [in the US] as well as some of the hotly anticipated new phones.

One HTC handset that is likely to get the 2.2 update however is the Nexus One from Google. Made by HTC for Google it doesn't have the Sense UI skin interface and therefore easier to roll out a new update.

The new update brings with it a number of new features like the ability to turn your mobile phone into a wireless hotspot as well as the usual speed and usability enhancements.

The news is unlikely to be any consolation to HTC Hero owners who've been waiting almost a year for an update beyond version 1.6. It looks like just as they plan to get the Android 2.1 update (expected in June) the carrot has been moved further ahead once again.

HTC hasn't confirmed if any handsets released prior to 2010 will be getting the Android 2.2 update.
