Alliance Bank credit card  biggrin.gif

I checked out the credit card.... but what catches my eyes is the Alliance Debit card. Rebates from 1% until 2%. Isn't this a better deal than going for its credit cards?

My portfolio will become
1 x HSBC Visa
1 x SCB JustOne MC
1 x Alliance Debit Card MC

Alliance Premium Debit Card gives a flat rebate rate of 2%. While a fixed 1.5% rebate rate is given by Alliance Plat Debit Card.

However, I still prefer Credit Card over Debit Card. tongue.gif
Why do you prefer Credit Card over Debit Card? Better benefits?
For me, the whole exercise of cutting down the number of CC I have and switching to DC is to minimize the RM50 service charge.

AirAsia looks so desperate.

Want to check-in luggage? Pay.
Want to choose seat? Pay.
Want food? Pay.
Want water? Pay.
Want blanket? Pay.
Want to watch movie? Pay.

And now, want to buy tickets with credit card? Also Pay.

HSBC will only announce more informations on this service tax in December. Many customers have called in especially their Premier customers. All are not willing to pay the service tax but they are hoping Premier customers will be exempted from this service, pending management final decision.

Aiya... I am not Premier.

I had a weird dream. I dreamed that the total cards in circulation fell from 11million to about 4.5million.

Can we have an update on the 1st post as to which banks/card issuers will absorb the RM50/RM25 service charge, and which banks/card issuers won't absorb.

Wow! This SCB JustOne package (credit card/current account) is better than my expectations. I've just only found out that the current account pays high interest! Check out my blog on savings interest rates surprises. I'm going to shift most of my savings into this current account.

Probably you didn't  notice that AmBank Amstar gives higher interest than SBC Just one C/A
*
Ah, but I don't have any accounts with Ambank. If you have RM50,000 in Amstar, does the Amstar pay interest on the first Rm5,000 as well, or just pay interest on balances above RM5,000... which in this case will be RM45,000.

If i'm not mistaken, Standard Chartered has reduced the interest rate for JustOne current account. You better check with them again. The old rate is very good but don't think you'll be this happy anymore when you see the new rate.

jack2 is right. AmBank AmStar current account has one of the highest interest rate in town. Not only so, The AmStar Extreme account also let you to withdraw money for FREE at any other local banks ATM five times a month. You can also perform IBG to other banks FREE OF CHARGE five times a month.
*
I think the interest rate is still the same. Check out my interest for October.

Open one with them. You won't be sorry. I have a Basic Savings Account-i with them under AmIslamic Bank with gives me 1.10% of interest per annum i do not pay annual fee for the ATM card (only 8 free withdrawals over the ATM)  rclxms.gif
Once you have more than RM5,000 in the account, all the balances will earn you interest.
*
There's no annual fee for the JustOne ATM card as well.
Balances above RM2,000 earns 1.38% interest.
Unlimited free ATM withdrawals.
There's no minimum balance to maintain to earn the interest.

But the Amstar is good in the sense that the account comes with free insurance, free IBG, free MEPs.

I did a calculation and agree that Amstar current account pays higher interest than JustOne. But don't forget that the balances in JustOne earns Choice Points as well, which can be used to redeem gifts brows.gif

Is SCB Just ONe current account based on tier interest basis? If yes, then AmBank Amstar gives higher interest than JustOne as it is not on tier. Once you have reached that required balance, the whole balance is entitling the interest rate. Unlike JustOne that is based on tier.

And AmStar gives 5 times IBG online transfer each month in which worth RM10 a month and 5 times free withdrawals from any MEPs ATM networks which worth of RM10 a month as well.
*
Yes, is tier rates. Balances above the teir will earn higher rates, balances below the tier will earn lower rates.
The Amstar free IBG and MEPs is good.

Should be higher. The overseas admin fee for AMEX is 2.5%. Someone had used both AMEX and Standard Chartered Bank credit card and it turned out that Standard Chartered is higher.
*
Oh, I didn't know there's an admin fee for overseas transaction? So, how to save on this admin fee when traveling?

Is there any admin fee (for all cc in general) when buying stuff over the internet and pay in a foreign currency, like USD/Euro/GBP?

I made a USD transaction via online on 13/11/2009. I charged this to my SCB JustOne card. When using the RM equivalent in the statement and divided it by the USD I charged, the exchange rate works out to be 3.44824
This exchange rate probably already inclusive of admin fee. So.. maybe somebody is smart enough to figure out the % admin fee based on the info I have.

This week I was approached by a Maybank credit card agent. She told me that the Amex card 1st year RM50 service charge is waived. Is this true? I told her that none of the banks made any announcements yet, the how did she know 1st year is waived? She replied that this is a promotion or something.

Maybe the banks are waiting until end of December before announcing whether the banks will absorb the fees or not. Reason being, those who are not using the cards will cancel now. And come end of Dec, if the banks want to absorb the service tax, then they will only need to absorb the tax for the left over cards. Saves alot of money for the bank.

No worries. I have never trusted and tried BT, PL, cash advance and easy payment scheme. There is no free lunch in this world.

On a different note, has anyone seen this declaration of service tax by UOB?
http://www1.uob.com.my/assets/pdf/faq/servtax_faq.pdf
*
The FAQ from UOB seems to indicate that the service tax is due on the cc anniversary date, and not 1/1/2010.
Read the Q6, and the A6.

Just to share my experience in canceling my UOB cards. I faxed 1st time...no calls even a month later. Faxed 2nd time, called the card centre to confirm if they received it or not. Was told to email to customer service instead. So I emailed, and about a week later, a customer service called up to try to change my mind. I didn't. Then about 2 weeks later, received the confirmation letter from UOB of terminating my cards.

No, seldom go overseas nowdays. Working under technical department now. Previously attach to venture department. More opprtunity to go overseas.

I plan to use my Alliance Bank Debit Platinum Card, when SCB JustOne max out. If offer 1.5% rebate. Plan to cancel Alliance Bank CC as well.
*
We have the same thinking, and the same cards.
I just applied for Alliance Debit Platinum card yesterday. The card states "valid thru 09/14". Is 09 represent 2009, or September? If September, then the bank ate 2 months of my card life, cause the renewal will be in Sept instead of Dec, hence I will pay my RM12 annual fee earlier instead of later.

yup, i agree with you. but the way the Maybank's head of consumer banking delivered the message i cant say its good impression either, or maybe just me.
*
What do you expect these banks to say? "We have significant number of card cancellations"? Of course all these banks will say, "Not much impact or cancellations" because if Bank A says they have a lot of cancellation, then the rest of cardholders from Bank A will wonder, "Why so many people cancel card from my bank? Maybe other banks offer better deal. Maybe I should also cancel."
