QUOTE(cenkudu @ Nov 3 2009, 11:05 PM) I think is really depend on people. If we want to keep our card we could not avoid this service tax and the only thing we can do is to minimize the number of cards. maybe for some people better to cancel all cards and use debit card rather than paying RM 50 for even for 1 credit card. if debit card has more benefit why not. This will leave only 1 benefit to the CC which is the interest free period of 20 days . Well debit card might be the way to go, but as some mentioned debit card has their own limitation too: - some debit card link to your bank account directly, means if lost or theft, all your savings are at risk. - in case of emergency, you are limited to amount of money available in your account - I not sure if we can pay insurance premium, or auto bill payment by debit card

QUOTE(SeanChang @ Nov 3 2009, 11:25 PM) if i were u, i'll cancel DA & keep MBB Petro coz it's TP will be ongoing & Your only reason is because of evergreen points? QUOTE(hebe87 @ Nov 3 2009, 11:29 PM) depending on your credit card spending, keep 1 credit card is better than using debit card despite the rm50 service tax. the benefit that you can gain from credit card outweight debit card, provided you spend a lot on credit card ya, MBB card is good, with the on the spot redemption, the point is more worth its value Since I will console most of my spendings to Amex Gold, I believe transaction for the other CC will only as backup in case Amex not accepted and also for insurance premium payment. I still unsure should I pay RM50 for this backup card... As for MBB on the spot redemption, is it during treatpoint roadshow?

Hi all, regarding CC cancellations, usually how long will it be effective? Let say I cancel my cards today at bank by filling up cancellation form. Does this mean my card is cancelled starting today? Or bank need few days time to process the cancellation?

QUOTE(MilesAndMore @ Nov 10 2009, 12:43 AM) Not sure if this will really work as many foreign carriers have been doing this for years. Heck even full service carriers such as Qantas Airways and British Airways are also charging their passengers for using credit card to pay for tickets online GSC online purchase also charge 50 cents for each ticket....

QUOTE(hackqym @ Nov 14 2009, 10:50 AM) yesterday, went to CIMB Pandan Indah, i saw a bunch of credit card with cancellation form. The officer told me, one day is about 10-15 application for termination. Just imagine, I just went to one not so crowded branch, how about the other branch especially the popular one? Plus cancel by fax some more.... Huhhh.... pity to the officer and I said good luck and hopefully your big boss give u some bonus bcoz of the 'overloaded task'. I cut my DA yesterday too...

QUOTE(David83 @ Nov 14 2009, 03:31 PM) Switching card is not allowed and you need to apply for the new Sony card. TP can be transferred another existing card. I see. That means I need to apply and wait until I got my SonyCard, then contact MBB to transfer points to it, and lastly only can cancel MBB Petronas? Seems like a long process... Don't know if I will get taxed for both cards

QUOTE(Aeon_Clock @ Nov 30 2009, 01:49 AM) yes, of course can Hmm okay let say if I cancelled my card before 01012010, but insurance still charge money to my cancelled card, do I still need to pay RM50 tax? I think there's no correct answer for this now since bank has not announce anything yet...

QUOTE(MilesAndMore @ Nov 30 2009, 02:47 AM) Shouldn't be able to. When you cancel your credit card, it means the account is closed. If you have direct debit tied to your insurance policy with your credit card and you have canceled the said credit card, the system will automatically reject the payment and you will receive a letter from your insurance company in a few weeks (assume if you did not provide them another credit card that is active). QUOTE(namh @ Nov 30 2009, 10:33 AM) i have experienced on this.. i charged my insurance on my mbb visa cc monthly.. one day, my wallet is stolen and i report to mbb to cancel the card, and make a new one.. a few weeks later, the insurance company sent me a mail to request for a payment because my cc a re no longer chargeable.. so i just provide them with my new cc, then only they can charge me again.. QUOTE(Aeon_Clock @ Nov 30 2009, 10:36 AM) this kind of things dun need to ask. How can you make a transaction to a credit card which doesn't exist? Its like I'm paying for my dinner with a CIMB card...but I do not have a CIMB card. So do you think the cashier will say "thank you, please come again" or will she call the cops? Assuming of course you do not make the cancellation on 31st December 2009...because obviously machines take time to process. Thanks all for replies. Guess will cancel the card soon before mid of Dec. Will only arrange method of payment for my insurance afterward.

QUOTE(Aeon_Clock @ Dec 2 2009, 01:14 AM) trust me, can shift the points as long as its within the same bank. Can't say about other banks though...but MBB does. Thanks a lot. Then I'll try to get MBB to move all my points from credit card to debit card. Hope they willing to do it for me since I never had any transaction with their debit card before...

DA is very "efficient"... I cancelled my cards at Penang branch 3 weeks ago... yesterday called helpline... need to wait for 5-10 minutes... then they tell me my card is still active. Then I question why so long still have not cancel. Then they tell me I can actually cancel DA by calling in. They will block and then close the card account.
I'll call back again in few days to check the status...

QUOTE(Optiplex330 @ Dec 8 2009, 11:08 PM) DA has good CS because you can still speak to a real person. I tried to call Alliance 4 times today, got put on hold and then disconnect automatically. I gave up. For CS still okay, but their bank is not efficient... cancelled my cards via branch 3 weeks ago till yesterday cards still active...
