I think if you hope superHB to reach 6 lvl is a bit over expecting.

Nowadays RTG = HB
HB = superHB

Reason they throw a lot of HB into RTG pond, so now all chaplang, and most RTG will pass 4th level but not 5th lvl complete.

So best thing is reduce your expectation and how much you bought? does it come with cert
*
I bought it for RM700 without cert which is all my saving..they say it is too small to insert the micro chip..... do you noe the arowana supplier in sungai buloh opposite EON bank? Oriental Arowana i think....can they be trusted?. Since they have a big supply of arowana and they are a supplier they told me i dont have to be worry..... as they say their reputation is more important....besides the super high back they sell 100 over of chilli red and super red.... so i thought they can be trusted......

But now the problem is the shine is only until level 4..... they told me i have to wait 1 year for the shine to reach level 5..... IM confuse..... cuz some super high back at 5 inch i can alreayd see the shine at level 5.... have i been cheated?

Why don't u treat it in WTT for 3 months and see the result. if u not satisfy, maybe u can bring the fish back to oriental?

DFI in singapore is a respected farm, and since oriental is their agent in malaysia, i think oriental will upkeep their own reputation too...unless they want to do `Fly by night' buz then we cannot comment much...

but good grade aro normally cross faster than low grade aro, n if urs is a low grade aro, then it will only cross after 1 year....or more....
cross 4 or cross 5 still a good aro...in my opinion.

price is still ok as some hb now selling at rm900.00 n the seller oli mentioned high back!.
*
How do your differentiate between a low grade and a high grade super high back? i didint know that.....

wah so excited lar
cant wait till this saturday to bring my baby red to his new home biggrin.gif

I was wondering if i shud reduce one more ornate bichir as i believe the ornate is a bit aggressive and is most pro ninja hunter at night. (even one single feeder fish in a whole 5ft aq he wont let escape, everyday catch 1-2 feeder without fail and no misses!! one snap goner)
Ornate is about 9 inchs long. The aro will be about 7-8 inchs i think.

The marble bichir and seng bichirs are very chicken wan so i dont have to worry about thier aggression lol.
*
hi leong,

Mind to share where did you get your red arowana? izizt chilli red arowana or a super red? and How much did you bought it for?

As for arowana products.... i dont really trust them... like PH up or PH down... basically i just use aquarium salt.. coral...or ketapang leaves to achieve the PH i wan ...and dechlorine (anytype wil do.. i use genesis 1 drop for 1 gallon)....regular water change....every 2 weeks once....10-12% of water (1 inch of water).... my tank is 4'x2'x18" ... then you arowana will be fine... remember the TOP COVER!

haha thx.
Nah i dont believe in those stupid ph up down chemicals also lol...it just doesnt make sense if u think about doing wc...unless you so much space to have a spare tank to store the water for aging and purifying before use to do wc which i think 90% of the world population dont have such luxury...

For me all i care about is clean water and bacteria (i'm a bacteria nutcase)
For now i took out all the coral chips already since the ph is high.

I using "Azoo arowana live water" from now on which is also a dechlorinator as well as a ph stabalizer as it replaces the lost KH during water changes. Basically like a all in one convienient solution so i no need coral rocks for dKH.

Now my tank not so complicated water chem already.  laugh.gif
only 2 solutions i using will be azoo aro live water for dechlorinizer and nutrafin cycle (bb solution)Probly add vitamins later lol but yeah...

I mainly focus on the bacteria...since i took out all the cc in the filter i replace with more ehiem substrate rock filter media lol..

I wont be using K.leaves either cuz i really dont know how to use them..and scared of ph fluctuations...i'd rather just let the ph be as it is and keep it stable
So i will just stick to regular 20-25% water changes every saturday which i've been doing anyways and maybe a 10% change on some weds along with it if i'm that free after work

My arowana is from xlsa, thier cert will be br/cr arowana.
The reason is because the new ranking system in xlsa is that br/cr is the same 1st grade and no difference..
2nd grade is the super red, and 3rd banjar red.
They have no differentiation btw chilli and blood anymore. I confirmed it with the manager who really got  rclxub.gif with all my questions but least he was happy to entertain me (of course la..i paying =.=!)

I price listed rm3k+, i got offered rm2.6k biggrin.gif

really big hole in my poket money d lol  shakehead.gif
*
WOW 2.6K... pls upload the pic when u get it.... I have a golden super high back.. but the scale only reaches 4th level.... (6 inch currently)... is there such thing as a low grade or high grade superhigh back?... my supplier told me i need to wait 1 year (12 inch) for the fish to reach full potential....
hope i am not cheated.....

BTw is there a low grade and high grade chilli red? im really confuse.... sometime i saw people selling chilli red at rm2k.... some 2.6k....some rm1800.... the price difference izizt becuase of the grade?

I saw a LFS soaking the ketapang leaves in a pail.... ones the leave releases the brown thingy.... the will use the water and add to the aquarium directly to get hte ph they want.... i gues that is how u use the leaves...

waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh  blink.gif 3 years never turn off lights  blink.gif

mine i think using just the pink normal tube lights hanging on the hood. that light is ok for me (my eyes are sensitive to bright lights sad.gif) so then it should not be too bright or too dark to see so it shud be just nice and easy for aro and bichir. and only time it to turn on at 6 to 11pm lol

dunno about tanning lights ler...will have to see next time in the future when aro older... i feel that those things sure make water hotter and confirm bad for fish eye sight which can even lead to DE  shakehead.gif  i just want to have happy aro and happy aro will make me happy too biggrin.gif
For the tanning i just open curtains as my window is just about 3 meters in front of the aquarium, (thus the reason why its impossible to take photos until evening  sweat.gif )....so it will get a very light natural sun tanning biggrin.gif

now i feel i need to remove the parrot chillids d, they really do shit a lot lol.
gonna try and sell the ornate too cuz i wana reduce the bio load. blink.gif
*
hi,

I would like to asked, izizt ok to on the lights from 6pm to 6am? this is because the eletricity tarriffs are cheaper during non peak.... but im afraid the arowana cant sleep....

lol i was kidding on the 1st sentence la, i think you meant anti-chlorine
chlorine is what you are aiming to get rid off laugh.gif

Added on March 4, 2010, 4:45 pm
yeah, the water reserve (usually located at housing roofs) are more preferred cuz its sorta aged. safer  brows.gif
*
I use Genesis as anti chlorine...1 drop per gallon...i buy one bottle and it can last me 1 year....i have two 4'x2'x18" and 3 normal 2 feet tanks counting on the genesis haha.... i just siphon out 15% of the water....add genesis....and fill the aquarium with tap water.... im using the tap from the garden... im not sure whether its from the tangki of direct from outside..... and add salt..... works fine for me.....

and yea.... i think he meant anti-chlorine

i would like to know which is the best way to get your arowana to grow big fast.... and improve colour>? dont count genes....although 70% of the arowana depends on it... i would like to discuss the other 30%

what i have in mind.....for colour....its food and lighting....... for size..... it is water flow rate, tank size and food.....

any comments?

yah i also have that white slime thingy....i dont think that one is related to the uv filter tho lol, cuz i havent been using mine and i also have...
i think the white slime is like the excess protective slime coating thats in the water. Sometimes the ac we use does provide slimecoat properties and thus the excess get stuck to the silicone guah  hmm.gif

yeah i guess uv filter is extra cost.....the reason i asking is cuz i was just wondering if it actually is good for the water or not.

logically...if its turned on...anything including free floating beneficial bacteria (bb) is killed in the water...and i dont think thats a good thing lol but the parasites are killed too which also helps :S

but then again if the uv filter is turned on then the only bb remaining are only at the filter media in our filters bb housings.
*
Hi everyone,

May i know how long did you use the dolphin UV filter? Is your aquarium facing the sun>?I heard from many experts that the UV bulb needs to be changed every year.... IF not algae will start to grow again....Try changing the UV bulb....i think it will clear your algae problems..

For me UV is not a waste of money... although i understand that it is very expensive..... and Leong is correct ...it is used to kill parasites....which is really important... Prevention is better than cure......UV light is important but not a nescessity....

If you visit Koi farms.... Usually they have UV filter as Koi requires super clean water..... any floating parasite like anchor worm etc that infect the Koi causes alot of complication and it is not easy to cure....the problem is some teims we dont know what medicine to use...... n not only the money spent on buying medicine....

Hi everyone,

I went to my LFS to ask them why my 6 inch super high back arowana only has shinning until the 4th level. They told me that once it reaches 10 inch...the 5th level will start showing..... Can i trust what he says?...some super high back i saw already has 5th level shine at 6 inch.... n he told me is because the fish is in a white tank so the shine comes out earlier...

What is the size of your fish>? its quite small in terms of length... adult arowana needs a minimum of 5 feet in length..... did you bought your tank initiall to rear salt water fish?

i'm newbie here and i intend to get one arowana as well..
i looking for one like RTG or like post number 14. like something redish or goldish. looks great.

Firstly, i would like to know here would be the best place to purchase one.
How much budget am i looking at for monthly(food n maintainance).

thx..
*
It depends on your budget. for high quality aro's u need to pay more.... try Xia leng/ kin fatt/ legend arowana..... the price there should be ok....xian leng abit expensive but good quality....

as for the food...it depends what u wana feed them.... if u feed pellets it would be very cheap. rm20 per 3 months?....IF Market Prawn, MP....everyday then very expensive.....

hi bro,

go and buy a 4 feet tank....less than 100.... compare to your aro which is few thousand now...

if u wait for people by the time the tank reach u need to wait quite long.

Deear all arowana lovers,

I'm moe and i own a HBRTG.
i'm in a situation that i'm contemplating on several choices that i have in hand.
i'm in verge of getting married and move home. i keep my almost 1.75 ft 2 years old HBRTG spoon head in a 4x2x2 3-piece tank with cabinet.
The choices that i laid out for myself are:

1) Sell the whole set with fish and everything(saves me the hastle moving the fish with tank) and when i'm in my new home, i may may buy a 5 or 6 footer tank and upgrade to a red aro.

2) just move my fish to the new home and be happy with what i have.

I'm a little more favorable to the first choice but i'm not really desperate to sell, so i won't exactly opt for the choice of selling it all if i was not offered a reasonable price.

note: i'm not quite expecting a lucrative price, i'm ready to let it go for a reasonable price.
here are some pics i've posted before:
