getting 3.6mpbs out of 4mbps package is low? wondering..

i called them last week and they said, the speed has to be at least 80% of the package subscribed. so if we subscribe to 4mb package, we should get around 3.6mbps, so is that still consider low? i dont think so

the reason the capped higher than 4mbps is because there will be a time when the speed will become very low (peak hour) and to meet the 80% sla, they capped it higher than 4mb

and, anyone area bangi subscribe to 4mbps? just wanna know if there are an issue.

Added on March 18, 2010, 3:29 pmyo! users. I heard from the techie, saying that the current RIGER ADSL2+ modem is quite cheapo. Tends to overheat and hangs your modem. Even it affects your speed and latency. Saying that the previous BILLION modem works better. Is that true?

anyways, i wanna get a new modem. any recommendation for a good and reliable modem?
what about DLINK or Netgear?

TM capped speed from rapidshare,MU or any other direct download site. thats y lots of ppl use seedbox if u really going for HD download.

about the riger, yes its sucks! mine get dced every 2 days and need to manual reboot.

just upgraded to 4mbps and the package price is RM135/mo.

kinda suprised, I thought it was RM160.

walawei, is this true?

coz my snr only 18 now with 1mb package. surely i wont survive the 4mb upgrade but im still waiting for the installer to come check my line tho.

tm contractor came to my house just now, all works well, my snr boost up to 30+ this morning. normal only 20+.

and referring to ur problem, from the TM jobsheet,
it said

SNR > 15 db
Attenuation <40 db

so i think ur attenuation is not qualifed bro. snr is ok.

the technician said, even if Att 41, they wont setup the line for me also. 40.5 is still consider ok.

after the account activation this afternoon,

now i need to wait for the TM guy to swith my port to 4mb one. my modem page still 1536.

another 24 hours waiting.

the tech guy does not even bother to check whether we r on g.dmt or adsl2 plus.

the only thing he cares about is snr and line attenuation

so no worries about what modulation we r on guys. =)

im using adsl2+ and same like u, i get weird numbers like u.


and i still didnt get my 4mb speed yet after 24 hrs already. sigh. i think this is TM fault, tech guy already came to my house, do the checking, activate my 4mb account but the TM guy that should switch my port to 4mb one still didnt do it. so i still stuck with old speed. CS at 100 told me they scheduled to do it at 12PM on weds, no Friday already.

from what i READ n SEARCH thru 10-20 pages back there these past few days,
YES, 2 and 4mbps share the same port.

they will upgrade u to 2mbps first, when the tech guy come to ur house, he will activate ur 4mbps account.

but in my case, those stupid TM staff did not upgrade my port first and when the technician came to my house , shock that my port havent been upgrade yet but he activated my 4mb account first. now im stuck waiting for tm to upgrade my port.

call 100, the CS agent said it will take 14 DAYS TO UPGRADE THE PORT, which i said to her, BULLSHIT!.

now report number open already, and gonna give them time until next tuesday, if nothing happens, am gonna go complain to CFM

no, u do not need to do anything UNLESS u r not getting the 4mbps speed after 24 hours. call the technician or report to 100.

in fact, account activation for 4mbps does not even took 24 hours. the 100 guys said after the tech guy call his fren to cap ur speed, it will be instant activation.

the 24 hours activation is for them to set ur jumper setting/change port to 4mb port.

but when the tech guy came to ur house and check ur modem page and ur speed already shows 2mb/4mb then ur jumper/port setting already been done on their end. and u can straight away use ur 4mb account after he call his/her friend to activate ur account.

upgrade today, and u already get the 4096 speed cap at ur modem, nice. fast service at end, they have set ur jumper/port setting to 4mb one.

maybe it will take 24 hours to fully speed up, according to most of the post here and my technician.

but to check whether u already being capped at 4mb or not, take a look inside ur modem.
is data rate there shown as 4096kbps already?

and test direct download as well.

erm simply said,

if u set ur modem mode to adsl2 +, u will get incorrent number of upload speed like what happen to u.

509/506 upload.

change it to g.dmt u willl see ur upload speed will be set to 512 accordingly.

so dont complain to them. =p they wont even bug with 6kbps diff.

call streamyx at 100 and ask them whether ur application is being processed or not. they will let u know the technician phone number and from there, u can chase the technician like mad drool.gif

the only issue is frequent dc if ur snr is not good enuf,

i suggest u request to cap at 5 first, if the problem happens a lot, just downgrade back.

and try to set ur modem to d.gmt (something like that), u will c boost in ur snr.

mine is capped at 4096,
on adsl2+, snr is around 17-21
on d.gmt, my snr is around 24-39.

and no problem with performance at all. rclxms.gif
