Thanks bro! Will print out my SNR and Att readings and head to TMPoint tomorrow. Hopefully it will be a successful upgrade to 4MBps. Else, have to hope for HSBB. Sucks...

Good luck to you.

But remember that you have been warned by TM that your line might not support 4mbps, as there are many many factors that will vary the final results of your connection.

So if you apply 4mbps and in the end it's highly unstable, or you cannot reach FULL 4Mbps, and if you already signed the minimum period contract... it will be very hard for you to turn back, so it's best for you keep that in mind ; )

218.111 feels slow lately, packet loss to facebook, hotmail, and my MSN Messenger takes much longer to sign in.

Others also said that some of their messages dont get to me...f***.

And today a few of TM NGN team staff came to my workplace (a mac store) and see Mac Products.
For gods sake, since NGN was completed yesterday i have been experiencing timeouts and laggy connections! Those idiots still have time to go around shopping rclxub.gif doh.gif mad.gif

I nearly scolded them infrot of all the other customers...and guess what, they are all of that <insert word here>. Why am i not surprised that everytime they do an "upgrade", it just screws everything up.

Hello im at penang area today seems like facebook and other site quite slow loading any problem?

Yes, seems that since 12.10am this morning (now is 11.51, so it's still today) everything went into chaos. I got "disconnected" from servers so to speak. Just suddenly MSN went dead, a few streaming sites went dead, and certain international sites went dead too. After a while it was back, but much slower. My guess is sudden routing change.

Dear Valued Customers,

Telekom Malaysia Berhad ™ wishes to inform our customers that we will be migrating our existing global network to a new platform to facilitate ongoing improvements of our network performance and service quality. The migration will allow TM to provide a more integrated service proposition to support a larger ecosystem of applications.

The migration exercise will take place on 9, 13, 16, 20 and 23 January 2010 between 12.00 am until 6.00 am.
I can understand if this happens on the 9th, 13th, 16th... but not on the last day 23rd! How stupid can they be, to finalize the upgrade on the last day, and screw everything up at the same time. As if they did nothing on the other dates..... Even if they cant give us good network experience, at least show that they have the brains to take care of their PR/Image and maybe put another date 26th maybe to account for any variable change/unwanted situations. They are really pushing the People to think that they are brainless as we all expect everything to be done on the 23rd and have no disruptions after that.

Yeah, better that they tell you that you can't, than you subscribe and get bonded to the contract. At that time if your connection isn't stable and not up to expectation, only yourself to blame.

You can try rewiring your house telephone line. If after that it's still bad, then you need to get TM to rewire the line from your house to the DSLAM

^ Only to the BRAS. Anything after BRAS they are not responsible for it.

*BRAS - Broadband Relay Access Server
*images below hosted on Imageshack USA, please be patient if your IP has bad international routing.

This diagram shows TM's "infra"

As you can see, the BRAS is before the core router and all other components. Most of us have no problems getting 100% speed to BRAS, it's at the core router/international peering/dns that is fk-up, which is all after the BRAS.

This also means, TM does not need to care about your complaint as they can always say they are only responsible for what is stated in the clause. But i dont think they will say so lar, if you get to talk to the higher levels, they are quite understanding and actually they will/might ignore that fact, and will help you out.

If they deny, complaint to MCMC/CFM directly. You can even point out this weakness to them, let them wake up abit

Somehow I can't get 218.111 anymore, and I can get all the old IP ranges such as 124.*,60.5*, quite strange.

was a 218.111 user also, now they set it to 124 range. no complaints so far, it's on par if not slightly better than 218.

Congratz! I don't have the luck, still waiting for his "try-my-best"... T_T
Hmm, but what if they said "Your SNR Margin / Line Attenuation" is not good enough for 4 MBPS?

My area and place is supported for 4 MBPS, but my distance to exchange server = 2.6KM; my SNR Margin = 36 (now dropped to 26), and Line Attenuation = 38 (which is quite high).

So; I'm worried they will say "Oh sir, ur SNR / Line Attenuation is no good, we will downgrade your package now"... then die.. will that possibly happen? Or both of you also have similar SNR / Attenuation value? Mind sharing? Thanks.. smile.gif

If possible when they install the service, the tech will come to your house to check if your line is suitable, you can then use that period when the tech is around to do what u want to do to test the quality of the line.

If you are not satisfied, u can just cancle the deal. If it's okay, you can take the risk and continue.

better if you bargain them to let you trial on that day they setup your line 1st, otherwise u'll be paying extra for a crappier connection
