how can he came to ur place and say its not supported when tm point approved it in the 1st place.. usually tm point knows best about the area.. If they said that there would be an installing coming by, it means that to check either ur connection (home line quality) supports it via ur DSL readings.. weird..
must be a noob installer indeed..
*
Take not that sometimes there are other factors to consider which TMpoint staff can't confirm, example line quality, the exchange quality etc which can only be done by TM's technician. If its a simple 1 Mbps then yes, TMpoint staff can just upgrade it right away. However, 2 Mbps is a different case, even if its just an increase of 1 Mbps. Its their policy so you can't do much about it.

Its standard procedure to check the line on-site by technician for the upgrade to be approved. The question is why the technician said its not supported. Is it the line quality, exchange or something else. Thats what you should be asking them.

hmm..apparently the installer said the Attenuation is too high (46dB)
*
Well there you go, your line's quality is not suitable for 4 Mbps. If you want to improve you line's quality, refer here since he/she has experience about it. Sometimes the telephone socket's quality has degraded (like mine) and I get bad line quality. More extreme measure would be to change the wire between your house and the pole outside your house (cost money).

thx but the link you gave me was regards to SNR...unfortunately there's not much one can do about attenuation..

weirdly though, he said can't support 2MB either..but right now i'm getting 2MB speed.
*
SNR, attenuation etc is one of many properties of your line. Do take note that sometimes the problem may not be at your end (your house's wiring etc) but TM (the exchange) so its not that easy to say where problem is. You can ask TM to check the exchange or something like he/she did which might help increase your line's quality.

Anyhow, if your satisfied with your line then why bother, just enjoy it.

Hi all, can anyone help me here?

Currently I'm using friends P1 to online. 1 week ago, i upgrade thru some authorised dealer in LYN. No answer from them
if my location is able to upgrade. No information if any technician is coming or not.

Now my problem is that I can't even connect with my streamyx. The Downstream is not stable, keep going up and down.
Is there any problem with my modem or what?

I called tmnet and they say they will send technician over on friday (2 day ago) but no 1 came. Do I need the technician to come
so that I can connect back normally? or what can I do to connect to the internet? Or should I wait for the line to be ok?

Currently using D-Link DSL-520B
This information reflects the current status of your DSL connection.

Line Rate - Upstream (Kbps): 512
Line Rate - Downstream (Kbps): 2880 +/-
LAN IP Address: 192.168.1.1
Default Gateway: 219.93.218.177
Primary DNS Server: 202.188.0.133
Secondary DNS Server: 202.188.1.5

Is there any setting I can do that make my connection work?

Please help.....
*
Refer here. Yes you do need the technician to check the line quality to determine if thats the problem. Alternatively you can report to SKMM and CFM to get better response of your complaint (works better than TM's Call Center).

Call customer service and ask them? We're not TMnet's staff, so we don't have much to give you. Even if we do, it'll end up wrong and would make things complicated and confusing for you. Yeah their customer service suck, but there're the proper people, not us.

Or if you want a better customer service, lodge an official complaint to either SKMM or CFM. They usually yield better result than calling TMnet's customer service.

Make sure to attached speedtests screenshots, ping to popular site (google, youtube, yahoo etc) for proof of problem.

QUOTE(RangerRed @ Feb 26 2010, 07:29 PM)
U know u guys keeping asking about RS n Youtube being throttled u got to consider this:

Both of them do not have every server mirroring all their files/videos.
Some servers have a lot of files/videos on it that is popular compared to others hence they tend to be slower since so many people r trying to access them.
Sometimes the nearest server to u that has the file has to make many hops before it can reach u.
*
That would explain why tunneling/vpn your connection (which oddly adds more hop) is enabling people to stream youtube faster. Its just a case of traffic shaping by TM however occasionally yes there is congestion but every single day... really?

For rapidshare i'd have to say thats a clear case of traffic shaping, an extreme one. Some people PAY to download, i.e. premium user. So what congestion are you talking about? For free users it's normal for rapidshare to throttle users but premium users erk.. what happen?

can i apply for 4mb for my line?
what is local snr margin and remote snr margin? which 1 is downstream, which 1 is upstream?
btw, im using prolink h9200
*
Go check yourself. Else you call TMnet, ask for availability, they say got, you go TMpoint or whatever (agent, reseller etc) to register. Then they'll send technician check your line. If technician say ok, you can upgrade or else, enjoy your current subscription.

pingtest requires java, so enable javascript (for noscript users) or install the latest java, restart your browser and test again.

i want to ask
since my line is under testing...i think the guy is testing which ip suits me the best
the 1st one as i stated previously is 115.XXX
which can uncapped....can download youtube full speed
thn just now i download youtube....it's capped at 30KBPS
thn i go check...1 hour ago...the guy just changed my ip again to 118.101
but if i use proxy.....it went blasted to 190KBPS using 118

wanna ask...is 115 better than 118?
*
sometimes they throttle connection so its hard to say which ip is good for youtube. for me (1Mbps) sometimes the youtube link stream fast, another link slow, another link fast, all within the same ip.

i think you should just save your time and insanity and buy a proxy or vpn and use it and watch youtube without bs from tm. in the long run if that solution doesn't work, then you complaint since proxy or vpn also dont work.

Whoa, back then, the excitement was all about getting capped at 5120 kbps. Now we have people getting capped at 6 Mbps.

This is very unfair to the other 4 Mbps subscribers, in my opinion.
*
unfair? thats life pal, get used to it. but remember, truth is always the best policy.

TM not yet setup at their end. Wait a couple of days and if the your speedtest is NOT showing 4Mbps then make a complain.

my 4mbps line not stable. 300kbps-700kbps only, sometimes 3.4mbps.
related to modem?
I am using riger 108wd
*
What time the speed drop? some 4Mbps ppl have been complaining that tm is shaping connection on certain time of the day, hence slower speed than subscribed.

now im using 1mb...but my downstream show in my router is 4096

means when I change to 4mb, it will still use the same port 0.0?
*
Probably, but since its 4Mbps port its hard to say. For me my line was capped @ 3Mps while i'm subscribing 512kbps streamyx and when I request to opt for 1Mbps they just increase the speed limit, which is a relatively quick process I must say.

want to ask how much maximum and minimum download rate 4mbps?
*
Theoretically, maximum download speed you can get:
4Mbps = 4096Kbps
4096Kbps = 512KBps

Minimum download speed you should get (on LOCAL TMnet server, not speedtest.net or ANY OTHER SERVER) is 80% (or it is 70% or 90% I donnu) is around:

80% of 4Mbps (4096Kbps/512KBps) = 3.3Mbps (3278Kbps/409.6KBps)

*70% or 90% you do the math

Not sure about the upload speed though. smile.gif

QUOTE(meeprat @ May 5 2010, 04:23 PM)
Is it normal for the downstream rate to keep changing? I recently upgraded from 1mb to 4mb and when the upgrade process was completed, my downstream rate was at 4096kbps. But I was experiencing some pretty strange speeds for the past couple of days. Due to the whole earthquake/faulty underwater cable incident, my speeds were around the 1.5mb/s mark but after it was reported to have been fixed (and after another phone call to TMNet's hotline regarding another problem verified that my speeds were back to normal), my download speeds seem to be capped at the 2mb/s mark.

So I went to take a peek at the router settings to check on the line attenuation and all that jazz, I noticed that my downstream rate was set to 2040kbps. Was just curious to find out if it's a normal occurrence or if it's something I should complain about to TMNet. It's been a good 2 days now since the downstream rate was changed.
*
With TM you have to complain complain and complain until your case is settled. Else complain some more because they won't know or don't care if something is wrong and can't be bothered to fix it until they hear a complain from the customer.

So complain away whistling.gif
