okay i know the quality is live this coax<composite<svideo<component<dvi/hdmi

i heard the latest decoder hv component connection. and i hv the old philips decoder which comes only with composite and svideo.and my lcd tv only hv 2 composite, 4 component and 3 HDMI...no s-video. am thinking to get a new decoder wit component connection. is it worth it?

I don't think its worth it. Component might actually make the image look bad because of the clarity.

You will see some obvious pixel artifacts from MPEG encoding.

I think you should just wait for the HD decoder box and get that - some channels will be on HD and you can run a HDMI (or component out)

Just called up to Astro customer service for clarification, they told me that the new decoder that support component output will be the HD decoder. They will not offer any HDMI output decoder.

Checked the unit with some Astro local dealer, front-side of the decoder also with USB port which will be used for WiFi service. In another words, Astro are planning for internet over satelite. However it will be next few years to go. But I will never subscribe to the service if there is any, imagine during raining you cannot watch Astro, so you will not able to serve internet also. Hence raining season we just paying for nothing right LOL.
