It can be powered by an external adaptor! tongue.gif
The power switch has 3 positions: OFF,IN,EXT.
I see a socket marked 5-17VDC.

From the write up:
"If you have AC power available, the HA-3D also takes an external power supply in the range of 5V to 17V"

Are you using a headphone amp to drive?
HD681 is far from laid back, I found it very forward especially the vocals at at times can be a little 'harsh' on midrange especially on those low bit rate mp3s.
I do not use any headphone amp with it.

Got my HD681 today.I found that the the HD681 has laid back sound signature compared to HD688B which is flat.Definitely has less detail but I can enjoy the songs more with HD681 now smile.gif

My HD681 sounds pretty good direct from my ACER lappy and via the headphone socket of my amplifier. I guess a good hi Q amping would helps.

I am using the HD681 without any amping. Works great with my lappy, iPods, PCDP and MiniDiscs player. wink.gif

Before running in, midrange and highs are very much forward and harsh.
Once done, terribly great on vocals and depending on source and mixing can be too forward with still slight harshness on highs. Can be tame with little adjustments to your likings with tone or equilizer controls.(thats what they are for!)
Easy to drive hence no amping for my usage. thumbup.gif

This is where Superlux shines, the bass department!
I am a basshead, the low end performance is more than acceptable. They're impressive in terms of 'tight' and well controlled bass, as per trio posting thumbup.gif
The harshness will surface now and then but that's because the poor source equalization, not Superlux fault wink.gif

Amping will boost this great sounding Superlux to a higher level on a slight laid back and warm amp. The LittleDot tube headamp came to mind which I used to have to drive my Senn(HD201). Too bad I don't have it anymore.. biggrin.gif

They're both similar. The only thing that I dislike about 668B is that it's frequency response is kinda 'flat', therefore music seems to lost the 'shine' and sounded a little dull. Can sound recessed at times. Any good beefy headamp might restore the (my) preferred sound.

QUOTE(Silenced @ Jan 23 2011, 08:39 PM)
ok,will consider to get one real soon biggrin.gif

one last question,
HD668b and 681
which one is easier to drive without amp?
