hi all,

i would like to know for water heater installation, shall we tab the electric direct from our house main circuit box rather than tapping electric from my light swtich?

as now i would like to install 2 new water heater for my 2nd house and the house is 10yrs old (never install water heater b4 by previous owner), the electrician told me for safety purpose, electric for instant water heater shall be better direct from our main circuit yet this will include a big hole in my pocket.

anyone can guide me?

voltage is same, just that light switches uses 1.5mmsq cables instead of the 2.5mmsq used for power point. so current is definitely limited.

thanks bro for reply,

so this mean i can use the electric from any socket instead of the light switches that is near by right and the socket in my next room will only powered table fan which i guess shld be np right?

coz the bathroom and the main power circuit is end to end of my house. thus, the electrician ask me to get the powet direct from the circuit box for more safety purpose.

as my current house, my water heater electric is tap direct from my light switch and used for 5yrs already.

If you have low water pressure, which u will if ur water is from water tank. You might consider to boost your water pressure using a reliable water pump like GRUNDFOS. As water pressure is higher, normal instant water heater would not be sufficient to heat up the water quickly. A solar water heater would be the best as it provides instant hot water without electricity and has warranty 10 years while normal instant heater has 1 year only and on average will spoil in 3-5 years. However, the initial investment for solar would cost more but it could save electricity more than rm 1,000 a year considering that your house has 4 ppl. PM me if you wan to know more.

Have a look at this

or for a cheaper alternative - use a gas water water. rinnai sells point of exit (can install in the bathroom) units at around 500 RM (runs on battery no need to install wire) and only needs a gas feeds. it's also a lot cheaper than electric heater to use it, heats better and faster. they virtually need to service whatsoever and are a lot saver for the bathroom than an electric one. they also offer a whole house heater for under 2k. i used both solutions and they are really great!

Hi All,
.
I just bought a new house in Section 17 and would like to redo the water heater system. Currently the old house already have the piping installed however the heater system is kaput already. Would you be able to recommend a good installer and also a good brand to use by ur experience?
.
Surfed online and saw joven having the horizontal barrel like heater and it's pricing depends on the capacity of the barrel. Is joven a good brand? Any other horizontal barrel brand which is considered good and durable???
.
Also I'm planning to install grundfos water pump as well, however read if the pump is strong thus the water might not be hot enough. What's the best combination of pump and heater and also what about heater that comes with pumps?
.
I'm looking at a budget of around 5K plus minus thus would it be more then enough and I'm cheapskate??? hahahah

i just bot Alpha storage water heater tanks for my new apartment unit...similar to Joven but a tiny bit more expensive...Joven offers 5years warranty, Alpha is 10years...

my dad's house uses solar type water heater...was pretty good until lightning strike it, and after repair, it becomes awol already...it wont become hot when you want it to and it gets very hot when u dun want it to....IIRC, the solar panel would take electricity to heat up water as alternative source...i think mine doesn't do that anymore....which prompts me to install a instant water heater...

a water pump is installed on the cold water pipeline...so it doesnt really affect your hot water supply...

for pump, these days the benchmark seems to be Grundfos...cant find a house without Grundfos pump these days...

i think you need to speak to expert...let them check your house and see what's the best solution....instant water heaters is easy & simple...but its bulky & space consuming...storage water tank can be concealed above plaster ceiling, but they are limited to the size you buy...15l, 25l, 35l etc...solar type i believe is one of the best, however, maintenance can be quite troublesome if you ask me...but if you can get a reliable brand, should solve the problem...

your budget will depend on the number of bathroom you have...i feel if materials only (pump & heaters) should be enough...but maybe not including plumbing & piping works...as they need to hack walls, install new pipes...patch the wall, install tiles etc...plus wirings...

Daryl,

Thanks for the reply. So it's Alpha or Joven laaa, hmm and agree let the expert view it first laa...my condo already have all the pipings/wirings required therefore it's only to replace the old heater with a new one. So hope to have a plug and play option.
.
Any contacts of a good water heater/water pump installer? Please PM me for good contacts yaa..
.
