QUOTE(id86 @ Jan 13 2010, 04:14 PM) is it common for these type of cars having problems such as wiring etc? Depends on the age of the car.coz my uncle Bentley (i posted the pic before) engine burned de. he seldom drove it. he claim for insurance and now waiting for his RR Ghost My uncle's RR also had wiring issues, it's a 20+ year old car and after all those years, the insulation became brittle, especially in the engine bay where it was exposed to high heat repeatedly. Even in the cabin, with the plastics and insulation, it will break down over time as the plasticiser component either migrates out or repeated movement to the wire and insulation causes cracking and such. I read somewhere that in old cars that have had exposure to sun, the plastics in the dash tend to crack and dry out as the solvents evaporate and start clinging to the inside windscreen immediately above the dash, forming a 'frosting' effect. This not only applies to wiring cables, but to many non-metal engine components, like rubber reinforced hoses and fuel lines and such that have plastics or rubber involved in their construction. They don't last forever, and especially with older cars, they don't make stuff like that like they do now. Also, when I had my old Merc, I found that if I drove it often, there would be less issues, as components are stressed a bit and fluids are in motion. When it got to the point where it was driven once a week, sometimes even less, then issues start to spring up more frequently. |

true.
most exotics are driven very little & when they are, they breaks down. Especially the older exotics, they need some drive time. Newer exotics like lambo & bentley are much more reliable nowadays mainly due to their parent company technical experience. |
