well...from what i know...usb soundcard will be more prefer by laptop user as they cant put pci soundcard...
in ur case...u should can achieve the virtual surround with no problem since u have the soundcard on ur desktop...

@everdying : to access the lcd screen...i think is need to press the button for roughly 5 sec, not as 2 sec as u mention before...=)

imo getting the tactx / 5hv2 is kinda pointless if u dont get the usb version.
afterall, ppl buy 5hv2 more for its directional sound with usb card rather than actual sound quality for music etc.

5Hv2 doesn't do well in music also. If want balanced, get Siberia headset V1/V2.

Like from other thread mentioned, Alienware is kinda OEM of SteelSeries.
