QUOTE
From the studio that brought you “Shrek,” “Madagascar” and “Kung Fu Panda” comes “How to Train Your Dragon.” Set in the mythical world of burly Vikings and wild dragons, and based on the book by Cressida Cowell, the action comedy tells the story of Hiccup, a Viking teenager who doesn’t exactly fit in with his tribe’s longstanding tradition of heroic dragon slayers. Hiccup’s world is turned upside down when he encounters a dragon that challenges he and his fellow Vikings to see the world from an entirely different point of view.
Studio: DreamWorks Animation
Distributors: Paramount Pictures
Starring: Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, America Ferrera, Craig Ferguson, Jonah Hill
Release Date: 26 March 2010

They first did it with Alice in Wonderland, but it looks like that's their standard operating procedure now.

How to Train Your Dragon (2010)

Wohoo Dreamworks. Way to go.

Best 3D Animation, hands down

Picture Quality: 9.5/10
Sound Quality: 9/10
Storyline 8.9/10

I seen them all, Bolt 3D, Christmas Carol 3D, Up 3D etc, but the 3D effect of this movie is SPECTACULAR.

Story works. Talents behind the voices works. The DEPTH preception for this movie is FANTASTIC.

Recommend you sit RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CINEMA for best effect.

Bring you girlfriends/boyfriends/friends/family, oh just bring everyone you know to watching this movie.

It's got drama/comedy/suspense/thrill all rolled into one.

First time watching the trailer. From the sound of it, I thought it was going to be a shitty show. But watching the trailer, it's pretty awesome laugh.gif And the graphics look superb too!

No, because it's high time that kids watch a movie in which the good guys die and the bad guys win and depresses the hell out of everyone. rolleyes.gif

Yes, best 3D effects amongst the animation I have seen so far.

Great storyline, not entirely a Happy Ever After ending, but a happy ending nevertheless.

Enjoy!

Yes, the 3D glasses can fit over existing glasses.

But, if you do have contacts, definitely MUCH more comfortable.

Yes, the storyline is strong enough for you to enjoy the movie in 2D.

You'll lose some of the graphically "WOW" factor (riding on the back of dragon scene comes to mind). Am pretty sure it would be enjoyable in 2D.

i am waiting to see how he performs in 'she's out of my league'... he looks very suited for that role.

on the topic- yeah- highly recommended movie. personally, i wish i had gone for a late nite show as the one i went for was on a sunday evening and the parents who brought their kids couldnt control them at all.. very distracting.

lol I didn't know. But he didnt say it was highly recommended IN 3D also la... I'm pokai already, no money for 3D

Anyway I've heard John Powell's score and it's really quite good. The "friendship" or "Hiccup" theme sounds like it was lifted from Harmony's Theme from Kiss Kiss Bang Bang though.

Too bad. It's really good. As YH90 said, the 3D "Depth" effect is way better then Avatar (Please don't crucify me).

The story is really "immersive" and the 3D effect only adds to it.

Yes, I agree the main dragon looks like a pokemon, and it is NOT a bad thing. laugh.gif

Probably not find anything in RottenTomatoes, seeing how this will only start showing this Thursday in the States as well. I think they rushed the How To Train Your Dragon 3D in Malaysia to coincide with the school holidays.

Jst watched this today in 3D.

I must say, besides Avatar, this animation is my 2nd best 3D movie so far.

seriously guys and gals, go watch it in 3D. it's really shot purposely in 3D. worth every single cent of it. so incredibly beautiful and it's obvious it's underrated.

chk out the star rating
http://star-ecentral.com/movies/reviews/re...1715&sec=Movies

As for the movie storyline, it's quite a typical animation expectation, but nevertheless, it's still an enjoyable movie. and the soundtrack is great too.

So folks, please dont miss out this gr8 movie in 3D!!

It is REALLY interesting.

If Pixar did not TAKE OVER Disney, and John Lasseter had not gotten the Creative Director role. We Might not have How To Train Your Dragon movie.

Dean DeBlois and Chris Sanders the genius behind Lilo and Stitch, was suppose to direct and write Bolt. They wanted to do a full flange "super dog" movie but John Lasseter said no, and that a pretend "super dog" movie would be more effective.

Dean DeBlois and Chris Sanders have since left Disney and apparently joined Dreamworks animations!

Would Bolt have been a better movie if they had gotten their way? No one can answer that, but How To Train Your Dragon is a boon for 3D animation that's for sure!

5/5 for animated movie, but for general movies a 4/5.

i was blown away by the sarcastic main caracther, and the caracther progress of the story =D

this show i liek

i was hoping for more scary/awesome dragon design, but its a family movie, so oh well~

buy from GSC online using maybank or credit card.

going to the office to buy a ticket on the same day of the 3D screening is suicide, cause usually ppl who buy 3D ticket plan ahead of the time cause of the small hall which limits the amount of seats.

CLASH OF THE TITAN 3D, HTTU Dragon 3D, Alice 3D,

i wonder, Ironman 2 got 3D XD??

don't think you can use M2u to reserve ticket but instead you purchase the ticket (payment via M2u). then you only need to go and collect the ticket @ GSC.

Is it just me or is the 3D ticket price the same as the normal price now? RM12.
Thats what I found out when I checked GSC's e-payment page. Its been like that since Alice in Wonderland.

Anyway.. you don't need a credit card or anything to reserve. Just go to GSC or Cinema Online site (or even use your phone if you know how) and find the reservation button. You have to register as a member first though.

I think RT 97% a bit overrated tho. One of the best Dreamworks animation flicks I've seen, but Pixar imo still the best in this department.

The 3D of this movie is 100 times better than Alice's. tongue.gif

I was expecting tons of fart jokes and unnecessary plotline which kinda the usual dreamworks animated movies.Really surprised to see they put emphasis first on storyline and gags second.

Really light up your day with this movie.

brilliant movie and well deserving of the praise...everything from the plotline to the animation to the soundtrack to the voice acting is impeccable... the only regret is not being there at the cinema right now watching it again

dunno why movies in cinemas these days seems to have bad image quality, either blurry or color a bit off... noticed this recently... is it because we're spoilt by Image Quality from Blu Ray and other High Def formats?

Anyway, it was a good watch.

i got a question...

when i buy the ticket for 3D movie online via credit card, there seems to be a RM5 surcharge. I was wondering if i buy 3D movie tickets at the counter, will they still charge me with that surcharge fee? or it's just for those who choose to buy online only hmm.gif

Same price online or at the counter. But there is an extra booking fee for buying online. GSC charges 50 sen extra per ticket and TGV has a flat RM1 payment.

I didn't like this at all. The whole movie consists of caricatures and no real characters. No real emotion. The main selling point of this film for me is the Dragon and even then, it's either Charizard or the Avatar creature. Sorry, didn't enjoy it. For a place that snows nine months a year, I didn't remember seeing any! Seemed pretty sunny to me.

I watched in 2D but I could already picture the sequences where the dragon flying through rocks or the fire spewing would be good on 3D but that don't impress me much. Sure you got the goods but you haven't got the touch. Don't get me wrong I think it's all right but that don't impress me much.

6/10

I am a fan of Jay Baruchel and Mintz-Please but Jonah Hill was easily the funniest character of the film. +6 Fire and all that tickled me.

yesterday went to watch HTTYD in 3D, sadly i think i missed out on the 3D effects in this movie, and i blame fully on the stupid 3D glasses of MBO. Its so blurrrrr and so darrrrrrk, and when i take of the glass, wow its brighter!

but still, i love this movie alot! awesome movie, a muz watch! and i havta agree, definitely under-rated.

btw, i browse through this thread from the beginning, and some of you said that there's no jokes or gags in this show. Erm... for real? or should i say, maybe some of you are not familiar with scottish accent or wad? i mean, the cold jokes in between Hiccups and his dad, and also in between his trainer (*wad's his name again?), and some other parts among the other students during their training. Even when his dad announce that Hiccup will be killing a dragon in front of the crowd, there's a cold joke there! i mean, man, u guys don get it, or its juz too small for u all to realize? tongue.gif

I guess that's true... wonder when will there be HD quality in cinemas...

I've watched Coraline 3D on Blu Ray and the image color though washed out still look sharp and all compared to the normal 2D version of this movie...

One of the better modern animations I've watched. Highly entertaining and enjoyable for me. Would re-watch it once more if I have the time. Slightly different storyline compared to the normal ones.

Love the chemistry between Toothless and Hiccup. smile.gif Not just master and dragon, more of best friends.

Watched it yesterday night @ Times Square, alone though.

It's very good. Character developments and plot progress between Hiccup and Toothless are believable. The animation is superb.

What? U dont need huge special effects, expensive cast, or what sort michael bay effect.

This prove that, as long as the movie entertain us from beginning till the last second of the show, then it deserve a 100%.

Some movie forgotten this, and want to add all sort of garbage ( example : lots and lots of scenes in transformer )

So, yea, this show deserve it.

usually Pixar achieve this ( eg. Wall-e) , but congrats to how to train a dragon notworthy.gif

definitely the best movie/animation that i've ever watched in the year of 2010 up till now.

enjoyed every single second of the movie from the start till the end.

deserve 98% and even 100% i would say.

the best ever is the music in the movie. it's really damn good.

only thing that pissed me off is those brainless people that can't even sit properly in the cinema. Encountered a malay couple sitting next to me, and the malay guy keep on shaking the entire chair and adjust his own position.

honestly telling, if it's screaming kids, i'm still okay with it. coz this is an animation and some sort like family movie, that's y it's okay.

it was an adult that pissed me off. an adult that i thought he should at least have some courtesy to sit properly or let say if he really not comfortable and adjust here and there, he should at least say sorry even it's in a soft tone. haiz, it's really irony, government encourage us to watch original in cinema, support local cinema, but these type of ppl spoil the entire market, indirectly causing all people to download torrent, or buy pirated CD (as original CD normally don't release that early).

Did you watch it at a TGV? I suspect that TGV's seats are so loose that if the guy sitting 2 seats over from you starts shaking his leg, you can feel it. Never encountered it at a GSC before. mad.gif

never try TV before. penang is famous got GSC @ Gurney Plaza and Queensbay Mall. Usually i went to both these cinemas.
There's a TGV at Jusco Aeon City, Bandar Perda but never try that before.
I've been hearing lots of bad reviews from other ppl regarding TGV, that's why never try that before. haha. biggrin.gif

the main concern is really regarding people's courtesy and their brain. I just don't get it, it's simple, you (i mean them) just need to be courteous when you're dealing with people, how can they don't understand such simple theory. haiz, spoiling the image of everyone.

Anyway, back to topic. biggrin.gif

I love the music inside the movie, anyone know where can i get it?

Well, I've been to TGV @ Seberang Prai City aka Aeon aka Jusco twice, and I would say the experience is okay. Seats from the last 2nd or 3rd rows are best, the popcorn is also comparable to GSC's. However, I have yet to meet anyone who shakes their leg a lot while watching movies, so I dunno whether the seats will shake or not laugh.gif

I went and watched it today, albeit not knowing anything about the movie except that it's related to dragons... and I was blown away from the very first minute. Very very very well made, the animation, that funny Scottish accent, the backdrops, the scenes, the music.. EVERYTHING!

Toothless is just such a lovable character.

among all 3D cinemas, KLCC-tgv, Pyramid-tgv, Mid valley-gsc, 1U-gsc and cathay damansara, i find that the cinema in Cathay gave the best 3D display.

worst is klcc.

@Dreamworks - I love your avatar! I always like the "=.=" expression that Toothless gives to Hiccup.
Once I'm done with my work, I'm gonna go watch 3D. Watch this movie once more before it trails off.
*
Thanks biggrin.gif And I love all of Toothless's expression, he's just so lovable haha... My favorite scene is the part where Hiccup gave Toothless's his first fishy.

Went to watch it for the 2nd time last night, and this time in 3D... The experience is very different from the normal screen one, love it!
