It's not like Steam allows you to cheat around and get away with it.

They have VAC which perma ban cheaters.

Besides, not all retail games have no extra content after release. In fact, most of them do have extra content to reward customers who had played for their games for maybe a period of a year or more in certain cases. For example, games like Empire:Total War, Dawn of War 2,Lead 4 Dead,Team Fortress 2,Mass Effect and the list goes on.

I dont agree on F2P actually cost less than buying retail.50USD per month is definitely more than what i pay each month. It seems more like you see it from the point of consoles where people loves to play a game for a while and throw away.

Most PC gamers arent like that where we could see people still playing SC1,CS 1.6,BF2 even after so many years.

The difference of PC gamers from console is,PC gamers are more passionate and loyal to the games that they enjoy,as long as the developers treat them well. It's also why modding and things like dedicated servers are crucial for a PC game to be successful. At the same time, they are much more vocal and demanding, because they love their games. They want it perfect. That the reason i think why companies like Blizzard or Valve are so successful because they listen and keep their customers happy.A happy customers will always come back to them.On the other hand, whatever IW did, people who arent happy wont be coming back to them anymore.

Console games, they dont need all these gimmicks,a 4 hour SP would be enough for them as they play and throw away. They can trade in their old games for new ones while PC games,we cant,we are pretty much stuck to it due to Steam,Impulse,Gamespy or whatever restrictive system that make you cant resell your games.

To be honest,i dont really care about those big companies like Activision as these days, they love to lick M$ ass now and they just want to keep their shareholders happy.Let them go,and the next big thing on PC would be made by a bunch of nobodies which will drive PC forward.I think PC's future is on independent developers that make games like Natural Selection 2 or Interseller Marines(consoles also getting this game, though.Still 100% independent.).If not, they will come in form of simple but damn fun flash games from Armor Games. Some of the flash games like Colony or Warfare 1944 have impressed me a lot.

Colony have a skirmish mode, campaign, and even a simple online multiplayer lobby that is similar to what we see in typical RTS.Except,it comes in a form of flash game.Thats damn amazing in my book.

u gotta understand retail games are usually not managed that well...
all those personal servers etc are beyond the control of the developers...
i was a CS1.6 player for quite some time (before i got into wow) and at times it gets so frustrating that u would just stop playing the game...
heck my house mate was banned by some so called GM cause ppl accused him of wall hacking on some servers jz because they dunno to walk and let their footsteps be heard lol...

i dun mind paying some subscriptions even for retail games with online capabilities just to control such events...

I dont know where you played, but those servers that i played on,i have minimal problems.

Developers can only control these much as they only have a handful of people. The community have thousands and thousands of people who can do their job better.Look at IWNet,it's a freaking mess with hacks and all the nonsense while dedicated servers would pretty much put that on control.People want control, not things like even the maps i want to play on,i cant even make my own decision on it.People cant be that dumb till they cant make some decision on their own.

If you dont like that server, dont play on it.No one is forcing you to play on it.

If a retail game have subscription, what makes you think that the developers can control the game with that 200 employees? How much they can control a game that is being played by 50,000 people?

just because u play MMORPGs doesn't mean u gotta be lifeless being in front of the pc the whole time...
u can be as casual as u want or as hardcore as u want...
no1 force to be an elitist and spend 20 hours per day in game to get everything out there...
i still go out yumcha movie etc with my gf and frens and even my guildies nowadays...

again as u said its personal preferences...
i just dun think that when a game goes MMO, its a bad move...
warcraft, warhammer etc showed us that before already...

From what Activision is doing,it's a bad move.

They only want money.Who cares about gameplay or innovations.

when we are paying subscription fees, shouldn't they be having their own team to manage the game?
isn't this wut we paid for?

Still,a couple hundred of people cant do a better job that thousands of people.

Im not a fan of subscription system.

they do have access to blizzard's experience..

That doesnt mean that they will make a good MMO.

Good games takes time to make, like brewing a wine, the longer the better the wine,as game mechanics need a lot of time to iterate till perfection. If not, you'll get a half assed game like DoW2,where the game needs more time to refine the mechanics to be fun.Does Kotick wants his games to be fun?

Unless they gonna spend like 3 years to make this MMO,i have no confidence in it.Even so after what Kotick officially say that they only need money, not innovative fun games.

Never was a fan of MOH , and BFBC seems too big of a game lol... i never did get a hold of piloting aircraft in any BF game .. i sucked at it to be honest lol... once i lifted off and my left wing hit a tree branch and boom i was dead lol..

BFBC2 isnt just about flying.

I never fly a plane in BF1942 or Vietnam.

It's the infantry and vehicular warfare makes it fun.
