Dear all sifus, need your opinion...

currently i'm using Sony DB-29M61 TV connected to my dvd player & XB360 (both connected thru component cable)
I found that XB360 produced better PQ than my Yamaha DVD player (progressive scan capable) when playing dvd movie

since I'll donate my Yamaha dvd player to my brother, i'm thinking to get Samsung HD-950 dvd player as a replacement

do you guys think there is significant improvement over the PQ from the samsung HD-950 player ?

or any other option for dvd player that produced good PQ (price range Samsung HD-950)

thanks for your input.

whats PQ? Picture Quality?
XB360 only display 480p for DVD Movie. if you want a better picture quality, get a dvd player that will upscale the video to 720p or 1080i. how much is the samsung price? or you could just get xbox1 and put in XBMC.
*
yes PQ = Picture Quality

to my understanding, this samsung is capable to upscale video source to 720p/1080i ..no ? can this be achieved using component cable ?
too bad this sony tv dont have HDMI input (HDMI to HDMI and HDMI to DVI cable come together with samsung dvd player)

if thats the case, it should produced better PQ than XB360

abt the price, someone had post the price ard 950 in this thread

thanks for your input

I'm assuming you set your DVD player on progressive scan mode too?

If that's the case, then I can't really say - except that if you buy an upscaling DVD player it won't necessarily improve your DVD experience. Remember, as xxboxx said, DVDs top up at 480p.
*
yes, my dvd player set to progressive scan mode.

upscaling dvd box is out of my league (i tot the price minimum 5K sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif

if the samsung player can upscale dvd movie to 720p/1080i i think there should be improvement compared to XB360 (420p)

thanks for your input

Many movies are in 2.55:1 format and this will cause letterboxing when viewed on a 16:9 display. If you insists of getting rid of them then try to see wether your TV have zoom feature or not.

thanks for the answer,

mostly my dvd collection is in widescreen format, i just dont understand why it didn't display in full widescreen format as the lcd is 16:9 widescreen so as the movie.

if i using the zoom function, as tong1774 said, the side will be chop off

I can go full screen when i use Media Player Classic with my HTPC, but the side will be chop off, otherwise u will get a distorted image. try check your DVD player if there is a zoom function if the one in the TV is not suffician.

You play Xbox360 at what display? 720p? Do you notice any lag or shadowing effects during fast-paced actions when gaming? Pixelations on astro is a real letdown. Does anyone know it happens to Sharp Aquos as well?
Samsung has twin HDMI too. High response time is good?? I thought it's the other way round?  sweat.gif  Samsung DNIe is really that bad? Can it be switched off or something?
I know Sharp is the world's best LCD manufacturer but I still need more reasons for me to choose Sharp over Samsung. Price is not a factor to seperate these two now.
Please all experts, convince me. Tomorrow I am taking leave to buy LCD  rclxm9.gif  rclxm9.gif

yes, sorry to say that the pixelations on astro with Sharp lcd is very noticeable (i'm using Sharp LC-32BX5M) if i'm watching free tv (tv3, tv8 etc.., i'm rather watch without the astro (a bit better)
