I was torned between these 2 sets as well last month. I got Samsung LA32R71B instead becoz of price. I paid RM4180 (cash). You might wanna bargain more if you going for samsung. I'm very satisfied with the performance of it. I hook up my HTPC to watch downloaded TV shows, play Xbox360 and watch Astro. HTPC and astro is a blast but Astro not that nice, need to sit at sofa distance to not notice some pixelations.

Can't comment much on sharp but it has all the good ingredients to handle wad you need (6ms or 8ms response time, 1200:1 contrast).

You might wanna check out another version of this model where its speaker is at the bottom instead of the side. Its cheaper than the side speaker version. Can be an option if you already have a home theater system.
Don't think you will see much difference on any TV smaller than 40". If I'm not wrong the games are not render in 1080p resolutions as well.

You play Xbox360 at what display? 720p? Do you notice any lag or shadowing effects during fast-paced actions when gaming? Pixelations on astro is a real letdown. Does anyone know it happens to Sharp Aquos as well?

QUOTE(psp _BOY @ Nov 26 2006, 12:27 PM)
If I were you I'd take the Aquos. Although the samsung has a higher [Dynamic] contrast, the Aquos isn't far back. Twin HDMI inputs is a plus. A higher response time for your gaming is good. Samung's DNIe sometimes lag games, well, yeah sometimes.

I'd take the Aquos, but it's your choice.

Ye' Know

Samsung has twin HDMI too. High response time is good?? I thought it's the other way round? sweat.gif Samsung DNIe is really that bad? Can it be switched off or something?

I know Sharp is the world's best LCD manufacturer but I still need more reasons for me to choose Sharp over Samsung. Price is not a factor to seperate these two now.
Please all experts, convince me. Tomorrow I am taking leave to buy LCD rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif

i know astro looks bad on LCD.

got myself samsung 32R71B last week. But i dint know it's THAT bad.

My mum was like "Why spend so much money and looks worse than CRT?"
I cannot counter her on this one. Malu laaa...I know watching DVD w/ upscaler can project 1080i, but most of my time is watching ASTRO. sad.gif

Then, these Sony S-series coming out with ASTRO enchancement mode. A bit regret.

Did anyone manage to come out with a solution to this astro crappy prob?

i don have camera bro, but i can tell you, it's a little bit worse than VHS. Also, worse than conventional analog TV signal through antenna.

Have to watch my 32" at 10 feet away to get a "good" view.

regret man....damn ass-tro

I mounted the Samsung on the wall, and got myself the Samsung Home Theater HT-XQ100. Damn, match-made in heaven !!

We are in the same boat. Wife watching ASTRO, we are the one paying. hahaha bonus flew away in 1 day!

I am getting PS3 somewhere next few months. By then, Samsung will show its TRUE POWAH !!

What LCD you have in mind?

RIGHT! WHo care about ASTRO except EPL??

Last night I was watching Liverpool Vs Watford. When Liverpool scored the second goal, I dint even know who scored cause it was too blurry. Sighhh

Becareful if u wanna buy samsung. The DNIe somehow lags the game. My PS2 also look crappy with it (using composite though, no video component cable). Why dont u consider Sharp Aquos?

Care to elaborate on where u got the mount and how u installed it? Not on a brick wall i presume.

No, i actually designed a TV cabinet that mounted wholly on the wall. Then I mount the LCD on the cabinet. Looks sleek cause all cables can be hidden behind the cabinet.

I designed and asked the carpenter to do one. Using solid-wood. One drawback is that in future, if u wanna add some cables or wires, you have to dismantle everything.

For now, just enjoy la HEHEHEHE
