Malaysia don't have over-the-air HD channels, but we can always download *ahem* movies from the net smile.gif

Yup.....the quality is awesome in 720p or 1080i/p, but do not expect that it is a sgood as the HD-DVD and BluRay movies' quality...though

Thanks so much Silencer and BeastX. Appreciate your advice.

I'm currently having a final thought whether to purchase a 40' Sony Bravia S or LG 42 inch (salesperson told me it comes with HD with 80 GB?).

One last question, to connect CPU to LCD TV, any special cable needed? Thanks again.

well said..but with vga connection through my Sharp aquos G7 DVI-I input, the HDCP compatibility rule is not applicable at all for the said connection..yup..u neeed a dual core core capable PC and a reliable GC for hd viewing, and again..my lowly Nvidia 7800GT is more than sufficient for 1080p viewing..... thumbup.gif
It is either hdmi or dvi input...and u can use dvi-hdmi converter for the hdmi connection too...well, i'm not sure abaout both models, but it is higly recommended to get the LCD TV that support DVI-I input for trouble free input for both digital and analog connections from your pc......

Yup. Got it already. Thanks again. Hope i can make my decision today.

Hi guys,

First of all, i would like to thank some of the forumers (silencer, SSJBen, beastX, coolerMR, m@m@, edwin74) that provide me brilliat help in deciding which LCD to get, considering i was a total noob before this. This forum rocks man, you guys have been so helpful.

So here it goes the review of my Samsung LCD that i purchased a week ago.

Samsung R81 40"

PQ
It's brilliant. Better then i expected. I got a hdmi dvd player as well and the PQ i get is awesome! With dunamic contrast of 8000:1 and 8ms response time, i belive it will beat most of the LCD out there. Even when i compare to Sharp PX5 series, i think it is still better even sharp has 6ms response time.
For Astro, before that i t really concern me alot, but when i see it first time after my TV connected, wow! Believe it or not, it is as good as the CRT. So for bro out there who have the same concern as me before, NO WORRIES!

SQ
Hmmm. THis is the only thing that make me feel abit got cheated. Was impressed with the PQ so much that i forgot to really check on it when i purchase the TV.
It has a bad bass distortion, everything there's a loud bass be it during advertisement or any scene in movie (thunder, eartquake etc), noisy bass distortion will be heard. It's a turn off. But if i plug on external speakers that it is fine. But still, damn...

Price
After weeks of running ard and advice frm fellow foumers, i'm able to get it for RM6300. Was quoted at starting price of RM6999 and RM7499 at most of the giant electronics retailer.

Gaming
Borrowed XBox frm my friend to test it out. WOw, the PQ is unbelieveable! I'm gona get my game console soon. smile.gif Hopefully the price will get down, was quoted RM 1800 for Xbox360, still hesitating.

Overall, very satisfied with this purchase. Just the internal speakers part turn me off. WIll call Samsung to complain. But i guess most bro dont care bout the internal speakers as will play thru HT.

Now, my next project, home threatre! smile.gif
