From what I understand, most DVD player upconvert only happen through HDMI connection.

Let say you buy a upconvert DVD player and connect through component , you only get the 480p. Then the TV will do the upconvert itself to their native resolution. ( 720p, 1080i )

Or you can let the DVD player do the upconvert via HDMI to the TV native resolution.

so yeah, HDMI is not a must, but not bad having an extra option.
For me, I am connect my DVD player to HDMI port coz mine other 2 component ports are ocuppied.

I think your TV doesn't have DTS decoder.

you need to connect your player optical or coaxial output to A/V receiver that has DTS decoder.

if for PC purpose, I would suggest use LCD monitor, they have higher resolution.
Dell 24" widescreen is big enough if you sit a 1 feet away.

Hey guys, it's actually my first time posting here, but I've been lurking for a while, hehe.
Anyway, I'm getting a LCD tv soon, so I've been checking around and have narrowed down my choices to 3 brands/models.

1) Samsung
LA40N71B

2) Sony - Bravia
KLV40V200A

3) Sharp - Aquos
LC37BX5M

My questions:

1) Which one of these models do you recommend? To me, Samsung has the best looks but from what I read from this thread, it seems that the Aquos it the better choice. Keep in mind that for now I would be mainly using the tv to watch Astro and play my Ps2. No Ps3 yet, but I should be getting it sometime next year.

Thanks in advance happy.gif

If just watching Astro and playing PS2, I would recommend using CRT TV. I am not sure if it just me. The moment I replace 21" CRT with 32" LCD and played PS2. I don't like it. Perphas I am not get use to sharpness, coloring, and contract of LCD yet.
But PS2 only outputs 480i/p you would get better graphics with CRT TV.

For me I will just stick my old 21" CRT for PS2. And LCD for xbox360 and DVD at the moment.
