You can try bloghdtv.com. Nice materials, but they're all rapidshare so you know what it means

QUOTE(kaiserreich @ May 11 2007, 04:49 PM) I made a visit to a few electrical stores nearby and the salesman are so keen to sell me the Philips PHP-32PF7321, which comes with tempered glass and pixel plus and stuff whichever way they wish to call it. It's seems quite tempting for the offer but I smell something fishy, so I decided to come here first. Anyone got any ideas regarding the particular set? PHP? I think it's the same model as mine. Just bought it last month. Got it with the free HDMI upscaling DVD player and 5 year warranty. As the forumers here can tell you I've always been a fan of the Philips TVs. My verdict after nearly a month: HD quality is fantastic, especially on 360 (VGA) and PS3 thru HDMI. Astro is meh, so I don't watch it on the LCD. I prefer to use my CRT Philips for that. DVDs are dependent on the quality of the DVD (some good some not so good). Upscaling will improve your experience. |

QUOTE(kaiserreich @ May 11 2007, 05:17 PM) Checking on the specs, the dynamic contrast at 3200:1 is rather low IMHO. I kinda subscribe to the "dynamic contrast not that important" model, simply because most times (IINM) the dynamic contrast is only measured from grey to grey - and oftentimes don't reflect the true capability of the display. The static contrast ratio though is 1200:1 so personally I feel it's good enough.About the upscalling players, let's say I got a HD content gotten from you-know-where with 720p sources. I burn it into DVD-R and play it. So what you guyz here say is that the upscaler will improve the quality? It's ALWAYS a good idea to test the model you like with material you're gonna play on it - at the end of the day your eyes are gonna be the best judge, no matter what the reviews say. That totally depends on the media - if it's an MPEG2 file encoded natively at 720p there MAY be some improvement but I doubt it. |

QUOTE(kaiserreich @ May 11 2007, 08:14 PM) Any ideas what is the resolution for the Samsung R71 and Sharp Aquos PX when connecting PCs to these? Can't seem to find any info on the manufacturer's site Maybe some Samsung and Sharp owners can chip in. IINM for 1366x768 LCD TVs, supported resolution sometimes doesn't go beyond 1024x768 - this happened to the LCD TV we have in the office. |

QUOTE(kaiserreich @ May 12 2007, 05:15 PM) Generally that's true. To be able to watch acceptable Astro on my LCD I've had to reduce the sharpness and also use the pan and scan mode. The same goes for DVDs too.Pixel plus does help but it only shows the most effect on Pixel Plus2 and above (like my CRT) |

Maybe it's exclusive to Sharp. I know I still have to watch Astro on 4:3 on my Philips - but then again it doesn't really bother me.

Ooo. I remember watching a slimfit when I was in a hotel once. It wasn't too bad actually for a widescreen CRT.

QUOTE(redken @ May 16 2007, 08:51 PM) Dun worry la. All LCD TVs are made equal because each panel kinda inherited the drawbacks of the technology itself. No matter how hard they mask it under layers of marketing, it will still look obvious, even on really expensive sets. Yeah that's true - however each manufacturer will put in a few quirks of their own I suppose. The dissapointment sets in when this whole HD novelty starts to wear thin. Most probably not on the quality of the set, but more on the value of acquiring such a novelty toy that somehow suddenly seems to be so redundant. The novelty of HD won't wear thin as long as there's HD media to display, in my case, games for the 360. I don't really care for buying BD or HDDVD movies right now, but seeing Lost Planet or Gears on my LCD really brings a smile to my face |

QUOTE(silencer @ May 19 2007, 06:34 AM) hahaha....lord ashe..the best thing..u try checking it out the smart stretch technology for sharp tv on the retailers near u...let your eyes be the judge...and u can always googling on its features in the web too or asking the fellow sharp lcd tv owners about it...for me..it works super Ok..i dunno about others that do not own the sharp lcd tv, but keep complaining about it...again, no lcd tv is created equal...if not, might as well buying the cheapest 1...i keep wondering when non-lcd users keep complaining about the feature wise of lcd tc....i believe ..they should start buying it and experience it themselves rather than keep pointing the pros and cons of each brands...there is no doubt each has its strengths and weaknesses Heheh well I didn't really look out for the smart stretch tech when I was TV shopping, so it didn't factor into my decision. I made Philips my choice cause I like the way Philips displays work - but as you said, our eyes can only be the judge. |

QUOTE(cocklea @ May 21 2007, 09:30 AM) guys, xbox360 connected with component vs VGA, which is better? thinking bout switching to VGA after the update, but not sure yet. IMHO, it depends on the TV. If you're using a CRT, component all the way If you're using LCD, from my observation, a good quality component signal MAY look better than a shoddy VGA cable. I tested my 360 using original component, ciplak third party VGA and original VGA. I have to say that with original VGA the update really makes a difference, and brings it almost to original component-like levels. Of course, YMMV. |

Exactly. I wonder what movie it is. The PS3 lacks a hardware scaler (unlike the 360) so sometimes there are issues with resolutions on some media. Have you updated your PS3 to the latest firmware? Also it could be that the movie wasn't mastered for 720p?

QUOTE(neoardi @ May 21 2007, 12:08 PM) I suggest u try using component cable (actually, i'm not really sure myself When I tried out my friend's PS3 on my Philips, all the BD movies he had displayed in 1080i.This was thru HDMI. There shouldn't be a difference (besides the obvious quality) when you use analog for the PS3, as component does support all the way up to 1080i. |

Wah! That's bad then.
Usually if the TV says it's 720p or 480p then I'd take it as accurate, besides you can tell the difference when in that mode. Check your TV documentation on supported resolutions also, although I'm sure the Sharp TV is very advanced with that regard. |

Maybe we can put these two movies in a list for other people to bear in mind when buying Blu Ray.
