well, michael jackson cannot moonwalk then..
I dont know about the tides and waves the moon did to earth. All I know that without the moon, the night becomes black?? The moon sort of gives us light during the night by the sun.

You forgot about eclipse, I wonder if it has a role to ease the sunlight or solar flare and the magnitude of the Earth's magnetic field that protect us from the sun.

I still wonder why we need to talk about "what if".

how can moon disappeared in the first place should be discuss, moon as we know is quite big for the host which is earth, some say that moon is earth origin n some said that it was once asteroid ..

the only thing i can imagine now is that huge asteroid or comet came n hit the moon resulted the moon push away from the earth gravity range..

seriously, u wanna discuss?

i was thinking more along the line of teleporting the earth to the otherside of the galaxy.

If the moon disappear, the earth would be much exposed to the dangers of solar elements like solar flares that is highly ionized and radioactive and also increase the chances of being hit with asteroids or meteorites since the moon has been acting like some sort of 'shield' for the earth for some while. How about without wave and tides, what would then happen to the sea and oceans?

i know the moon and the earth is in a state of balance. moon's gravity affects tides on earth. but other than psychological effects to human beings and animals, i cant find any other factors, especially physical factors, that the moon affects.

what if the moon suddenly disappears?

(assume for reasons like an asteroid knocks it out of the orbit and drifts away; or we nuked it with several megatons of nuclear weapon or whatever.)

what would happen to earth

a. immediately
b. within a year
c. years after
care to venture?
*
the impact would be tremendous

a. immediately

disasters !

the earth actually wobbles if the moon got pulled away, and that translate into huge earthquakes and gigantic tsunamis that engulf the earth

b. within a year

earth orbit will also be affected, so who knows? maybe the time to travel one round around the sun is no longer 365.25 years, maybe it'll be longer, maybe shorter

c. years after

a lot of biological changes gonna happen, since majority of animals have biological clock tuned to the moon

as of what change... i dunno, i'm just an idiot

NO moon cake festival, Lunar calendar rendered obsolete (Raya, CNY cry.gif), plus no tidal changes.

herm..we can start with the tidal wave..the ocean hot and cold current..effecting the climate..twisted changes..draughts..and rain..at places it should'nt have..less food...poverty...lots of epidermic...stock changes...and wars...pretty much like that.

i've seen this documentary about what u said, i think its call the Global conveyor belt, or sort of, yes, if the tide and current under the sea is affecting, it may cause a change in our weather all around the earth. e.g Places which never encounter Ttornado will start to have it. on the other hand it said that the worse it it affect the northen pole and southern pole, which may accelerate the melting of the iceberg, Its something to do with the water which is cooler and warmer flowing in and out from those places

basicly the earth will come to an end as we know it since the moon have a gravitational pull on the earth and vice versa. animals using the moon as guidance will be lost and may end up in places u don't want them to be. seasonal changes maybe effected but the most effected are the marine creatures since their life are revolving around the moon.

The immediate effect is that we'll be doomed,by tsunamis, weather changes, and etc.

Its all bcoz of the changes of the actual pathway of the earth's orbit.

No need to complicate the answer, bcoz the answer is as simple as this when the moon vanished.

Amazing! There so many smart speculation here. Tides, wobble, ecosystem, find equlibrium, ... I then wonder what is earth suddenly aquired another moon. Would these reasons apply?

the earth might prolly be flung into space out of orbit from certain theories, who knows we probably be flung to a better solar system biggrin.gif

We would be in very serious trouble. Apart from missing something beautiful, we would have seriously reduced tides, by almost two-thirds. The tide cycles are important for the sustaining of various kinds of life along earth's shores, and tides create important currents that help sustain much of the sea life we have living today. Even worse, the moon has helped to regulate and stabilize earth's rotation on its axis. In the long term, earth's tilt would go haywire, due to tugs and pulls by the sun and the other planets. The seasons as we know them would shift and change with disastrous results. At some point, earth's axis may even become close to coplanar with the ecliptic-- the poles would point directly toward the sun a couple of times per year. If the moon disappeared, there's no doubt that the consequences would be dire.

there will be catastrophy...
why moon will disappear? is it because of the magnetic field of earth is weakining? then human also will die...
if the moon disappear , meaning that the moon is moving to other area in solar system.. it will not moving in the orbit anymore(will moving just like meteor = attrack to other planet due to stronger magnetic field)...this will be worst as two huge object hitting each other... = will be explotion...
and for sure ...our earth magnetic field has records of reverse-pole session in past billion of years ( recorded in basaltic rock at the continental drift zone)
