So for other mac user now, really have to take care your mac well. Mac is not "pricey" like how pc are. "Investing" for undercover is a good decision.

i have no ideal with that. I think one of our active member here using it. You can ask him. Now thinking of the mobility usage of my mac, really need to consider getting that undercover.

getting mobileme is a more feasible i think. cuz u can access your mac using 'back to my mac' .. from another mac if it is stolen.. n control ur mac from there.

Well, i have no idea with how both working. As i know, the undercover is quite good, you cant format/modify the admin account due to some firmware setting(im not sure). And the only wan you can do is create a new user account and all of your activities there will be monitored and send to the owner.

Try to get the serial number for your macbook pro, and then contact apple retail dealer.
Give the number to the shop retailer.
Once your notebook send to service or trade in, they will contact you.

Sorry to hear that, do post your serial here for people to look out for.. Contrary to what most says, there are still chances of recovering your Mac, though slim. Good luck.

I dont think you will get it back. Even mcd reveal the cctv u wont know who is it?

1st you are careless
2nd Even the thief or kind person found it might not just return to u. Imagine this he sells to shop or lyn seller he might get RM2000 above. He return to u he might only get maybe Rm50 and Rm100 and a thank you.
3rd Even report police do u think the police will search everywhere for your notebook
4th Even u report to mac they have no way to block the notebook

Good luck.

10 out of 1 ppl i know only found back their notebook. Hope u are the One out of millions

I will suspect the staff too, give them a little pressure, send your case in to McD Malaysia and see what they say. After all it happened at their place they should know and do something about it.

Just make sure u make sure the inspector go. For every scenario you must prepare for the worse and the best.

The best is u make sure the inspector go and retrieve the cctv footage.

I'm sorry to hear that. Hmm, make a police report. I'm sure something would come out of it.

Few years back a friend of mine got his MacBook stolen when he was sitting around in Starbucks (Old Jaya building, Section 14). After he used it, he placed it right underneath his feet (it was in the laptop bag). 20 minutes later, it was gone...... and when he told the workers at Starbucks about it, they told him that "Oh, you're not the only one who got your laptop stolen. Few days ago 2 businessmen got theirs stolen as well. Some African dudes started talking with them right before the laptops went missing". =.= After the incident, my friend developed some kind of severe paranoia about bringing any kind of electronic items out. Pity him, though.

Anyway, I hope your laptop would be retrieved from those criminals.

Cheerio and God Bless.

If you have the firmware password enabled, you can't reformat the mac.

i'll requote myself from a past post:
QUOTE
If you're looking for some sort of tracking...
the answer is Orbicule's Undercover.
Their website explains everything: http://www.orbicule.com/undercover/
give it a read.

I got this for my 13" MBP the moment i got it.
But for maximum protection, it doesn't stop there.
I enabled the firmware protection, which requires a password to enter the boot menu so you can't reformat or even boot from a different partition. I don't know what happens if you change the hard disk though but I think it won't even allow the new hard disk to be used?
I enabled the option in the security preference pane to "request password 5 mins after sleep or screen saver begins". Of course that means u should have a login password.
Since the Undercover software works by tracking the user while online, I need to enable the thief to be able to use my mac. So I enable fast user switching and created another Standard Account (NOT admin) for the thief to use which doesn't have a login password. I also locked down my personal folders/home folder and can only be accessed by me. So in the event my mac gets stolen, the thief has no choice but to use the Standard Account I created and can do pretty much any basic thing except anything that requires admin access. He can't access my folders but he can use every bit of the remaining available space for his own use.
Then hopefully, in due time, I will be able to track that bugger down. And hopefully he/she ain't a tech geek.

1. Any employees going in/out during that period?
2. Any out of the ordinary thing happened to you on that day before the event?

Reason for question 2 is, there had been many cases, people are just "persuaded" to give away their valuables without even knowing it themselves. At the same time victims' attention are usually diverted, and the next thing they know, something's missing. They prey on innocent people, usually at restaurants, tourist spots etc. They work very much like a syndicate.

peeps i got back my mac!!
mcd called me just now.. went to get it.. was untouched cuz they din take the power plug.. n i think it ran out of battery cuz was 'sleeping' too long..
i cannot get into details on what happened due to a promise i made but its all thanks to the restaurant manager of McDonalds Bangsar Telawi.
Anyway.. bout the child.. (it was a 15 year old child) who got lost.. he was always at Mcd every night.. with lots of storybooks.. for 3 days straight.. parents looking for him n such.. but he did not come back.. so that's still an open investigation..

So to help people who lose their Mac in the future :
1. Get help in the location that you lost it.
2. Report to AppleCare and Police station(bear the sufferings)
3. Block possible trading online by blasting your loss all over the net.
4. Monitor your online accounts for messaging and emails. If you notice that someone is using your accounts, get the IP address.
5. Suggested softwares to be installed in your laptop PRIOR to losing it : any of the suggested anti-theft software mentioned in the thread, MobileMe
6. If you have MobileMe, you can control your missing Mac from another Mac and pull information on what is happening, once you get any personal info bout the thief..the mac is yours!
7. If you do get back your Mac, don't lose it again.

Thanks for the support and help... biggrin.gif
As a note of appreciation, McDonalds's staff is efficient (bangsar telawi branch).. Apple hotline too. You guys.. peeps in my twitter(itsablushberry) and my facebook as well.
No thanks to the police/investigators at the police station. For more info, the nice lady at McD told me that the police will not take action once the report is lodged until u kecoh about it after that. Then only they will take action. ~just in case your stuff got lost and you want some action taken.

cheers
haze
