Ngog latest Liverpool player to be hit by injury curse
Tuesday, 17th November 2009

Liverpool are awaiting the results of a scan on David Ngog’s nose after he suffered a suspected nose break while training with the France U-21 squad.

David NgogNgog, who has scored four goals in nine games for the Reds this season, has proved to be a useful attacking option for Liverpool however, without the Frenchman, the Anfield outfit might be short in attackers.

Torres, who is currently undergoing a three-week programme to overcome a groin injury, is unlikely to feature against Manchester City after the international break.

Steven Gerrard isn’t a 100% fit yet while Albert Riera and Yossi Benayoun are out for upto four weeks.

Ukranian striker Andriy Voronin could start up front against Manchester City however, Benitez has other options in the form of Dirk Kuyt and Ryan Babel.

Benitez threatens to quit if Torres is sold

Rafael Benitez will quit as Liverpool boss if star striker Fernando Torres is sold against his will.

The club's well-publicised debts have led to questions about whether owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett would be tempted should a big-money offer come in for the Spain striker.

But Benitez told The Times the 25-year-old would not be sold.

"I'm confident it will never happen," he said. "If it did, I'd resign."

The financial situation at Liverpool means they struggle to compete with their Barclays Premier League big-four rivals in the transfer market.

And Benitez admitted the situation had led him to make some mistakes.

"When we have spent big, normally it's been very good business," he said. "Torres, (Javier) Mascherano, (Pepe) Reina, (Xabi) Alonso.

"(Robbie) Keane is a good player but we had to sell him because he was not playing at the level we knew he could play.

"Ryan (Babel) was signed for the future and we are waiting for his improvement. He has to be more consistent.

"With the fringe players, we needed to take a gamble on Bosmans and one, two million-pound players.

"Some of these players have not been good enough for us.

"It is a risk you have to accept when there is not too much money about."

Benitez defended the signing of midfielder Alberto Aquilani, who was bought for £17million from Roma to replace Alonso after the Spain international joined Real Madrid in the summer, but is only now reaching fitness after injury problems.

"We can only buy one or two big, £20 million players a year," Benitez said. "If we want to have money available then we have to sell some players. We have to sell expensive and buy as cheaply as possible.

"Aquilani fit would be £20-30million. We checked with doctors and they said he would be out one, maybe two months. We have lost some time, but I signed the player for five years, not five weeks."

With Liverpool seventh in the table having lost five league games already this season, many are ruling them out of the title race, while some even feel they will struggle to qualify for the Champions League next term.

"People are worried," Benitez said. "But the team will improve.

"When we have key players on the pitch we are as good as anyone. We have proved this in the past."

if u follow spanish league before torres switch for Liverpool, he won't join Real Madrid as he already sworn that Real Madrid is his biggest enemy.

Fernando "El Niño" Torres will never go to Real Madrid, he's a Rojiblancos.
"Real Madrid, Real Madrid, el equipo del gobierno, la verguenza del país"

and he's not a Michael Owen.

Actually you dont need to know him. He's with Athletico, he wont cross over. Madrids are not fond of each other. This is not like Milan where you'll see switching over now and then. tongue.gif laugh.gif

don't be too sure toress won't leave for real madrid . there's a price for everything and anything. a player of toress caliber need assurances that he and the club he play for , challenges for major trophies every season. he will have lots of admirer among europe elite club but i felt liverpool suited him

BPL will lose a prolific and natural goal scorer if he leaves liverpool.

Even if he leaves, there is bound to be more offers than just Real.
But Torres, i can assure you, you give him all the money in the world he wont go to Real.
And we shouldnt be talking about this.

Lets just hope there isnt anymore players getting injured in the next round of matches.

actually i dont mind seeing him playing 4 united, his choice was limited, as a player who r concern about his career sometimes they just hav to take the hardest path 2 save something..

having said that i lost respect of him when he moved to madrid, especially when the time liverpool need him the most...
