Guys, I have a 13-year old Kancil. Recently had a major service on it, changed the engine pipings becos all old and cracked already. Previously the radiator and the water container (where you add water - forgot the name) had murky and rusty water, so after changed the pipes, all ok. Now, few months later, the water is dirty again. Why? The car shop says need to flush all the water out and use better grade coolant. Is this true?

Thanks.

yes coolant is a corrosion inhibitor, because engine is made of different metals water acts like an electrolyte to create corrosion, coolant is inert and prevents this

clean out the rust i heard some mechanic put soap powder inside and rinse but i wouldn't do that, just flush until you get clean running water from the drain and then fill with coolant

the coolant will stop further rust, if you are talking about cleaning until bare metal then you need to strip the engine and polish one by one the cooling channels

there are shops that advertise radiator cleaning but as far as i know they only take out the radiator to flush maybe with acid then put it back, don't think they do anything on the block itself

Try using distilled water + coolant combo around 50%-50% or better yet, use full Coolants such as from Motul Freezer

Wat i did is I flush my cooling system cleanly including where ever da water flows... like radiator, water block(engine), water pump n all. Then once its clean edi, I mix R.O water (can get @ da water vending machine 10sen/liter) wit Toyota Long Life... It lasted nearly 5-6months. I monitor it regularly... no rust. nod.gif Until I met an accident doh.gif

last time in Feb i flushed my radiator .. just normal pouring filter water into the radiator then bottom hose come out, then refilled it with 1 bottle of coolant and others all filter water ... until now i don notice any rust, coz the color is still green (coolant color) ... will check again next time i rmb ...
don use paip water, as some in itself already contain rust ...

Bro,
I'm really to say that your car actually reaching a critical stage due years of corrosion. Now is too late to savage what is left. Filling up your radiator when superb brand only spoiling the radiotor and your internal engine cooling components only. Years corrosion direct effecting your water pump , internal engine block and radiator .

Coolant main functions is to disperse heat, protection from corrosion, steady temperature and easily flowing internally in the engine. All of this requires maintenance . You have to change it every 40,000 km by flushing and filling up with water and coolant for ratio 30/ 70 or 50 / 50.

Years of expired coolant resulting in internal corrosion and too late to savage what is left. My only advise to you now is DON'T USE COOLANT. IT WILL CAUSING LEAKAGE HERE AND THERE . THE RUST AND DEGRADING OF ALUMINIUM AND STEEL WILL FALL OF EASILY.

Just cleaning it by flushing by plain water and fill it WITH ONLY WATER. Changed it frequently before you need to fork out lots of money for maintenance and overheating engine. AGAIN, DON'T USE COOLANT FOR YOUR CASE.

Bro,
Regularly flushing and replacing coolant for 40,000km or 1 year is strongly recommned. Use TOYOTA LONG LIFE COOLANT. Is the best coolant available in the market and is cheap + proven too. If your radiator's tank starting to drying or the level of coolant/water is start leveling down means your internal cooling system is having problem. Well, maintain radiator and cooling system rarely requires top up.

Good Day,
Filling up with distilled water or battery water will ensure protection for the cooling system. If regularly maintaining by flushing and fill up with reputable coolant . Normal water from pipe also works very well.
