problem solved, it's the board and processor that died. and i dont know why suddenly it died. sweat.gif

and i bought a Athlon II x4 620 instead of buying the 9150e from my friend, and bought a new board (Asus M2N68-AM Plus):

the HD4770 is good but that X4 no point la. you get 4 cores but drop in speed.

if you need to upgrade, aim for a higher clock speed X2 like those around RM 200 - 300 range.

edited : oh, new processors may not work that well. so you can get stuff like X2 5200+ used unit.
*
u mean like 7750+?

well because i got the quad core offer from a friend, some more at a bargain price, that's why i thought of getting it. cant seem to get other phenom at that price though, be it 8 series or 9 series hmm.gif

what games do you play?

going from 2ghz to 1.8ghz feels similar, in most cases it's a downgrade.
*
well it's been awhile since i played latest games because my X1650GT is a bit outdated. just thought of trying new games when i buy that 4770 sweat.gif

you can't. that's why i say it MIGHT be a downgrade because I'm not certain at the time of the post. also forgotten that they're of different architecture tongue.gif

now the 2 concerns could be

a) whether TS would feel the difference
b) whether the mobo can support the X4 9150e (someone do a search on it? tongue.gif )
*
i don't know if i would feel any difference, since like you said, 2.0 to 1.8 maybe there's no difference, moreover if i'm not using multi-core apps.

as for supports or not, my board is AM2, and that proc is AM2+, theoretically that proc can run on my board right? since AM2+ is backward compatible with AM2 hmm.gif

QUOTE(fcuk90 @ Nov 6 2009, 02:02 AM)
best bet would be getting a x2 5200+ or x2 6000+ (maybe cant support )

your mobo cant support that phenom iinm
*
i was thinking of those two procs too. but it seems getting a 2nd hand one from garage sale is harder than i thought.

QUOTE(Irishcoffee @ Nov 6 2009, 02:32 AM)
tat is a super slow quad core
unless u r doing rendering
u r downgrading rather than upgrade
although 150 is cheap
y dun u upgrade your ram
im sure the performance boost is more noticable
*
well i need to upgrade my GPU mainly because my older GPU died. and i was actually waiting for Radeon 5 series (the mid-to-low end ones) before upgrading my GC. sigh.

as for RAM, it can wait.

QUOTE(altimi @ Nov 6 2009, 02:43 AM)
I'd rather upgrade CPU or GPU.......2GB is plenty already.......I don't think you can even notice the difference in performance...... rclxub.gif
*

QUOTE(InFe_eD @ Nov 6 2009, 03:10 AM)
2gb ram is more then enough already, especially considering TS is NOT using on-board graphic.
I have 4gb of ram and even after disabling the pagefile completely, I still didn't utilized more then 2gig of ram usage.
*
well i never had 4GB of RAMs before so i don't how much difference the performance would be.

QUOTE(everling @ Nov 6 2009, 03:39 AM)
TS could simply stick to only the 4770 and leave things be for now.

Another idea is to buy a newer hard disk, maybe a 1 TB Black. That 160 GB is likely to be rather slow and a new hard disk may grant quite noticeable perf improvements.
*
hmm maybe you're right.

as for hard disk, i dont know much about it nowadays but does a 1TB Black really gives improvement? or better if i just RAID-0 the 160GB with another low capacity hard disk? cheaper solution yet vast improvement.

150 buck for a phenomx4 is quite a bargain. If you are comfortable with OC, I suggest that you get it from ur fren, of coz only if ur mobo can support it thru a bios update.

2.2ghz is easily attainable.

TS, why would you want to get the outdated k8 dualie again? Especially considering you're already using 1 urself
*
im afraid, like another forumer pointed out, that my mobo cant support phenom or any AM2+ procs.

QUOTE(InFe_eD @ Nov 6 2009, 04:17 AM)
Oic, guess it's better for him to just change the mobo altogethers then.
TS: Try overclocking your athlonx2, 2.8ghz is easily attainable even with stock cooling. It will make a good match with 4670/4830/4770/4850.
*
my max stable with the 3600+ is 2.5Ghz. well i dont intend to OC my proc nowadays as more damage to TNB bills tongue.gif

oh, if you got the 3600+ to 2.5ghz already then I suggest you just stick to it.

it's good enough at that speed and doesn't warrant you changing to others like X2 5200+ and or higher range processors. the difference would be minimal.
*
well i dont know if it's a good OC or not. u can judge it here:

IF you didn't increase the CPU Vcore, overclocking your cpu wont use up more wattage. Actually I even undervolting while overclocking my brizzy. More performance and less TNB bills for free.   icon_rolleyes.gif
*
i cant remember whether i upped the vcore or not hmm.gif

well, upping the vcore or not, that's the max i can go anyway iianm. tried to bump to 1.3~1.4v but still 2.5Ghz max stable sweat.gif

Strange...  2.5ghz max oc is not consistent with what we normally see from windsor.   hmm.gif
*
either one:

1. my board is limiting me
2. my RAM (last time use 1GB DDR2 667Mhz) is limiting me
3. heat

as for RAM, i guess im using a lower divider, as u can see the RAMs didnt even reach its own stock speed (@625Mhz). so higher probability is that the board is limiting me.

well at AMD OC club down there, i see that goldfries too had his OC around 2.5Ghz when he was using 3600+ last time. and he's using Nforce 550 too iianm.

I just notice that your Windsor is a F2, else you will be able reach to 3ghz easily  sweat.gif

Anyways, 2.5ghz is good enuf to pair up with a 4470 ady, good luck in your graphic card shopping  biggrin.gif
*
haha thanks bro for all the advice smile.gif

one more thing, is it worth the trouble for me to RAID-0 the hard disk with another low capacity hard disk? probably with another 80GB or 160GB. or just wait for Caviar Black just like another forumer mentioned?

Yes you can but its performance would clearly behind that of a RAID array based on identical hard drives. IIRC, some1 care to clarify?
*
well i do acknowledge that hardware RAID > software RAID, it's just that im thinking whether it's worth the trouble or not. if the Caviar Black performs similar to it then i'd better wait for it (wait for the money to buy it). smile.gif

Oic, I don't think a RAID 0 of 2 small hdd will give much performance boost. Consider the limited space too I don't think that it's worth the hassle.

I had heard from my frens that the Samsung F1 Spinpoint 1 TB perform better then the Caviar Black, tho Im not sure abt this as I had never use Samsung.

Or you might wanna try 2 WD 500gb in RAID 0, really recommended  thumbup.gif
*
i thought of using that RAID-0 drives for the OS, and when i got the money next time i'll just buy a normal 1 tera hard disk. hmm.gif

may i know why it's slow? is it because of the rpm?

Not just the rpm, the platter sizes matter too IIRC.
*
thanks for the info. i just bought the Sapphire 4770 smile.gif

i got a new problem now, my PC couldn't start. went into BIOS, configured the clock etc, and then save the settings.

after restart, there's no beep coming out from the board and the 4770 fan speed is running at full rpm sad.gif

erk i dont get what u mean goldfries.

u mean i had to take out the board and the card, make it like overclocking station?

or just re fit the card? if it's refitting i've done many times already sad.gif
