hi all,

i am planning to upgrade my pc..currently i use xfx hd4770, n wanna to get another one for crossfire..i tried to see some reviews n it sounds impressive, but most of the reviews use high-end mobo where they all run both GPU at x16 lane.mean x16 at first lane and x16 at 2nd lane.

but mine is Gigabyte Ma790gp-ud4h..where first lane would be x16 but 2nd would be x8 only..would it affect the real&significant performance compared to both running at x16? or does anybody have tried to test this two GPU on the same mobo or likely?

hope can get some guidance from anyone n sifu here..

thanx.

I think it's better if you sell the card and get a high end single solution card smile.gif It makes more sense to crossfire/SLI higher end cards than medium ranged ones like 4770.

i would say go for it TS, you will get a better performance than 4890. No need to waste your time to sell that card when its cheaper to just crossfire it.

get a single HD4890 la.

1. less power consumption
2. the HD4770 is stuck to 512mb RAM when you CF. HD4890 straight 1GB.

Single card solution recommended too.

CF only for a few reasons

1. you have a requirement that a single card already cannot provide
2. you already have CF / SLI board
3. you have an existing card and have met the requirement #2, and looking for a cheap / quick / less costly upgrade (Eg, buying 2nd hand unit card to complement your 1st card)
4. none of the above, just want to CF / SLI for lulz.

Just go for HD4890 single card. Its current selling price is very attractive. I'm using one too. So far so good.

Cheers

4890 reference card is pretty hot actually, even downcloking to core 500mhz and memory 1950mhz, the stock heatsink could read 60c with default fanspeed,
unless use custom vga heatsink or buy the powercolor 4890 PCS version tongue.gif

oic..so far I don't have budget to go for 4890 although I sell my current, I need to add 3** more. by the way, I am thinking back that my PSU is CM Real Power Pro 550W, so if I want to make a CF, maybe I need more wattage PSU...is it correct?

Nope, it's perfectly fine. My fren run his rig with 8800gt and another 8600 as physX card using only huntkey 500w, no problem at all. There are too many "PRO" here spread around stupid information that every1 shud get a 800w or 1000w psu doh.gif

An 8800GT and a 8600GT has a lower power consumption compared to ATI HD4890, if I'm not wrong. So maybe you might need 600+? I dunno biggrin.gif

He is using huntkey which is at best 70+% efficient only, plus Im sure he definitely OCed it kaw kaw.
My CM 500w can handle 4850CF too.
Don't trust the official rating too much, the manufacturer always exaggerate it, remeber how Intel told us not to OC? whistling.gif

crossfire 4770 runs faster, quieter, more energy saving than 4890. x8/x16 difference maybe in very very high settings at 1920 resolution. other than that, maybe just 5% difference

but not all games support CF/SLI. and if the games not support, it will only run on 1card only.

my recommendation would be just buy single card.

if u already got cf mobo so y not give it a try. its worth it. 4770 gives very good scalling.
im on 4770 cf on a blood iron p45 mobo and it run at x8 x8. afaik the performance between 16x 16x and x8 x8 different is around 2-3fps. so not much different unless on hi reso maybe.
the power consumption is lower a bit then 5850 or 4890.

i got myself a 13k gpu score on vantage both on stock. for crysis on fullhd high setting max fps 45 average 35.

REVIEW see games review. it does give a very good scalling on farcry2 and hawx. other games too it stands out among hi end card.

for me i would suggest u to try it since u already have a cf board and single 4770. get 1 more pcs n rock on icon_rolleyes.gif
