QUOTE(Liuism @ Nov 4 2009, 11:16 AM) What yap.ben said is true. I am in the Northern Region, most people here use 76. We feel 77 is too fast. Don't know the reason how all these began, but once you are used to play 1 speed, hard to adjust since the power you use to hit the shuttle will suit automatically the speed you previously used. |

The reason why 76 in Northern region is only a handfull of shops carry 77 and according to 1 seller they prefer 76 as it requires more power for smashing. |

Coz the regional area temperature, humidity, altitude and air pressure will affect the shuttle speed. . . I think the same thing apply to the racket string tension also, mean some area you need 26lbs and others area you only need 24-25lbs to have the same [feeling] of tension, correct me if I am wrong. . .

Place with high humidity prefer faster shuttle, while place with dry weather normally prefer slow shuttle. High humidity means higher air density due to higher water vapor content, and these contribute to more resistance to shuttle flight.
In halls with low ventilation and hot afternoon (especially after short shower), sometimes 77 may feel too slow, hence some place they play with 78. It does not affect the racket tension, it is the humidity that affect the shuttle, hence the feedback and feel. If not mistaken, the correct way to measure shuttle speed is to do a standard high serve. It should land within the range of few inch around baseline. If you can't serve that high or that far, you can still tell by simply perform a high serve and almost immediately, you can tell if the shuttle is too fast or too slow compare to your normal play. |
