Yeah I was leaning towards that also after thinking so much. So with that said, recommendations on very good fronts?

From what I've read and studied, these are the the ones that I have shortlisted:

1. X-LS Encore
2. Q Acoustics Q3020
3. Wharfedale diamond 220 (dunno where to get though)
4. Edifier maybe?

What is cone size? sorry newbie on the terms

In the end, numbers are jus tat..

Go listen n shortlist based on ur heart .. I only treat specs as a guide, better for my ears to decide..

I still see it on sale in AMZ.COM.. N if not mistaken, its still popular..
N ultimately, to me its cheaper than Denon n Onkyo..
I'd still consider a LX88..

Hi

De term 'Component' - mostly used for VDO cabling [tink RGB]
So ..ya I was confused reading your questions..
But I tink I knw wat u mean now..

First off there is no question of 'usage' as u put it but of sound quality ; separates [component in ur words] have better sound quality n also ability to upgrd components/speakers wifout throwing anyting out..

Concealing spkr cables is possible but u nid to buy separate - if budget is tight - jln Pasar ones are sufficient for the surrounds..

Id suggest u got try out n if u like HtiB's thn go for it, its cheaper..
but if like me n u continue in tis hobby then separates is d way to go for upgrds are part n parcel of .. life [at least in tis hobby.. biggrin.gif ]

Hi,

I didn't want to touch on media players .. since u asked.. I mean if its a media player then l guess you are tinking of dwnloaded material on the cheap .. n well you know wat they say, when u pay for peanuts..
If u go for say a blu ray n then u get all the bells and whistles tat it brings..

Cheers

Thanks for your valuable reply. At least I'm hearing something else now. I will compare between those and choose what suit me the best  thumbup.gif
Yah, that was what I thought so. However discouraged by my friend. I guess Skylinestar explanation make more sense. Frankly my friend is not a HT guy also. His 2 cents only
Thanks for your opinion too. I will go and try it out myself soon. Afterall you cannot be buying a audio system purely by reading text  smile.gif

Unfortunately,

Over here in Mal.. u can't really try out all - as models are limited unless u plan to go all over the place - looking for a demo model..
I hv bought most of my avrs based on rvws.. but then again, l am more for durability then sound quality - tat isn't much spoken about anyway or can be try/test at the shop..

Thanks friend. I kind of agree after casually shopping around. Looks like demo unit is limited. Seems like AJ series is the one available, paired with different receivers (around RM3k).

HTiB 838 is quite hard to find, however after do many readings & youtube video, I guess I want to go for component set.

So, I heard few mentioned the Malaysia sales is closing down? that shouldn't be a problem for a beginner like me to buy right?
*
Hi,

As a beginner, I wouldn't even bother about models.. I'd look for bang for buck -
Rule of thumb - as you progress up de ladder - higher power means higher cost..
For me.. I'd look at latest formats [atmos, amongst others] wif a grain of salt, better to consider wattage, internal components [if you can find decent reviews ] tat warrant better sound/vdo [or if like me durability..]
Truth be told , only a very small difference in sound between different brands - as a beginner, l doubt u can tell..

Cheers

my plan is Q900 for front and Q600C for center

side surround i will relocate my current Q300 and rear remain Q100

then dual SVS SB2000 sub...woo hoo

hope LX88 can power up everything.....while i save money for a front power amp
*
Nice..

On rated power of the LX88 .. I'd suggest trying it out - AVR's quoted figures are very seldom all channels driven and the 'nice' figures are sometimes just tat - Nice..
I'd go wif a power amp every time for true figures..

yah you are right bought the amp power....usually i give a discount of 25% on the power rating...anyway its Class D amp...what can i expect right

so have to save money for a good class AB amp ler....a 150watts class AB is still a good power amp...

was looking at Magnet power amps...hehehehe being abit cheapo...but Magnet amp is not bad
200watts per channel....
*
LOL,

Magnet is el-cheapo... I d be very happy wif Emotiva...

Bad luck..

Pioneer is supposedly a more durable avr maker..
I personally still run a ol 911 as a secondary system..

Unfortunately, hdmi is needed if u hv many same-type-sources ; if nothing, but to use it as a switcher.. if non-hdmi avr in de pre-ownd market, shld be pretty cheap now - even near-flagship ones..

If going used.. better try n get frm a shop/store tat has em traded-in .. at least u got somebody to go for if it dies prematurely [oso, presumably shop/store expert has checked it out] - althou' all this is no guarantee of long-lasting-bliss..
Personally, l try n avoid used electronics - used spkrs are fine but electronics are too damn complicated..
