Just got myself a Logitech's X540 (waiting for it to arrive). Currently using on board audio Realtek ALC1200 8 channel HD on Asus P5Q Pro. (games, movies & music)

Since I am living in a place where auditioning is out of the question, I have few questions to ask the knowledgeable in this topic.

1. Lets say if i were to get myself a sound card, will it improve the surround experience?

2. Will tweaking the setting of the on board be enough instead of getting a sound card?

3. If getting a sound card would be better, any recommendations? (budget <RM350)

Thx in advance.

Let me elaborate more on the problem..When i hear extreme bass + pump volume, PC hang, hard reset it boots, so no loose cables here. Then play the song again, hang again, then hard reset everything boots. When I play the Woofer Cooker at the beginning the vibrating bass sound, during that part, PC hang.

2.1 is the stereo sound while 5.1 is a surround sound system.

IMO for PC usage..

Really2 recommend you get a good 2.1 system since all mp3(AFAIK), most movies and games are better in 2.1 compared to 5.1 unless you have a decent external amplifier that can process the stereo into a 6 way output.

I just got myself a 5.1 system (a what someone would call best bang for buck) the Logitech's X540. Somehow, listening to mp3 kinda make me regret but definitely worth it in games (Sound shock when monster/zombie attack from behind). I now need to DL FLACs instead of mp3 to get the most satisfaction in music listening.

The FLAC i've gotten are ripped from CDs but the sizes are so.....

HD movies you say, well it depends on the audio of the video ur playing. If its encoded/ripped 5.1, then perfect but if stereo, the will be the same as the mp3s.

The problem here is not in sound quality, you can listen mp3s(high bitrate) quite good on a 5.1 system, just that the rear left & right (L&R)speaker willhave the same sound as the front L&R speaker. And weaker sound, but this can be overcome by adjusting the front/centre/sub sound lower so that the rar L&R speaker can be heard as well.

FLACs are also dual channels audios. But higher in sound quality(hence the reason why a single FLAC can reach up to 15-30 mb compared tothe same file in mp3-320kbps of around 5-7mb, the higher the size of the FLAC the more quality its has).

IMO so by inputing the FLAC into an external/internal(or more popularly known as sound card LOL) amplifier that are able to divide the sound nicely from a 2 way to a 6 way sound is the best way of doing it.

Cap ayam brand is always lousy in terms of volume quality, longevity, looks and others not specifically mentioned LOL.

Based on my not so much experience, if you got a decent HD audio on board, that will be enough for PC usage. If you do not, consider getting a soundcard.

Whether you get 2.1 or 5.1 is up to you. To me 5.1 is like a 2.1 with extra power and when you are playing games, its a whole new experience. (Even now I started to play DOTA again cause of the Dolby Digital..LOL).

And what brand to get, ask away in these forums.I got the X540 based on the recommendations here.

@diy

Agreed. Am thinking of getting one but currently saving on getting a new lens. Maybe I can squeeze some funds in getting one. Having to many wants can make one become poor.

Any recommendations on a decent soundcard with budget round RM200?

I can as I also listen to mp3 on 5.1, more surround stereo sound LOL. Justneed to tweak the centre, front andsub sound to be lower than the rear ones so that I can get the 'surround' sound.

I got my X540 for RM340+RM18(postage) from lelong.com.
