i'm having trouble of choosing between a brand new nokia E71 which cost around 1.3k or a iphone 3g 16gb 2nd hand which costs 1.7k. the iphone still has a maxis warranty. i'm puzzled because i receive diff opinions. i like the E71 because i think sms-ing with it would be easier and it comes with garmin software which is an added point. the only downside is that the nokia might be too practical and business-like for me. i like the iphone cuz it's nice to use n it has lots of apps. i'm worried that the sms feature will be hard to use.
pls advice...thanks |

Depends what your primary use of the phone is. Here's my selection criteria:
E71 - IN A NUTSHELL: A phone that is actually a phone - If you SMS a lot, the QWERTY keypad is damn good - If you SMS when you are not supposed to (ie driving), the QWERTY keypad is a bit of a bother (not that I've tried it... - Good and clear audio for calls - So-so audio for multimedia - No DRM crap - FANTASTIC battery life (can go for 2-3 days without charging on normal usage) - Small screen iPhone - IN A NUTSHELL: An iPod that masquerades as a phone - If you like to use your phone to keep you occupied (music, movies, games), this rules - If you SMS a lot, touchscreen keyboards take a lot of getting used to (but the error correction is good) - If you SMS a lot when you are not supposed to (see above), this is VERY dangerous... - Choppy reception for some... Especially for data, when I sometimes can't get a steady signal. But that could just be Maxis. - Great audio for multimedia. Heck, it's basically an iPod after all - DRM really sucks big time! Can't change ringtones or sms alert tones easily at all! - Crappy battery life. From 100% at 8am, I can go to 80% by 10am just on normal phone calls and surfing. Don't expect to the phone to last more than 1.5 days on just standard usage. Expect to buy USB chargers for your car, laptop, desktop, everywhere! - HUGE screen! Great for games and movies. If you really want a good no-nonsense phone, get a E71. If you want a fun phone, get an iPhone. If you want a phone just to stay connected to the social network (Emails, FB, Twitter, etc), get a Blackberry. That's my 2 cents. |

as a business user, i also worry on the iphone's business-ability features. confirmed it is a chore using the virtual keyboard to tap tap tap..that's the only feature i dun like (apart from the single task OS)
but for e71, i dun have one but used the e61 previously. dun like the fact it is NOT touchscreen. so, a bit limited on finger freedom. iphone has more apps ,even business ones under Productivity category...e71 still using symbian and the signing etc is a bit troublesome. overall i would go for the iphone...if one doesnt mind the tap tap tap tap.. |

My wife is using iPhone and I'm using E71.
Personally, really depends on what you want your phone to do lor. Biz use, E71 rocks. It's stable, fast and has really solid built (like tank). Battery life is really awesome. As for iPhone, multimedia function is cool. Customization is cool. Screen is freaking cool and touch is screen is one of the best i've came across. I like the fact that is has lots of apps to play with. Some are really useful lor like those that can check data usage, check 4D/Toto (Ehem... ...). But if you use it for biz, then it might not be that suitable lor. Batt life is one big concern. Never go beyond 2 days for normal use lor. While E71 can easily go beyond 3 days. Still, depends on your need lor. BTW, is Nokia ditching Symbian soon? Gonna replace it with Maemo is it? |
