As an alternative , use the free Google Maps BRUT version 14. It is excellent and has voice navigation. I particularly like the direction instructions which appear on top.

QUOTE(ericsim @ Dec 10 2010, 11:04 PM) It finally works after playing alot setting at the lbsmodetest. But however the gps is not accurate? say now i at main road, it actually showing I am at the small road which is same direction with the main road. How to make it more precise? this does not happen when i use nokia N78 + garmin mobile XT. The inaccuracy is due to the poor Galaxy S GPS hardware . This is one of the weak feature of the Galaxy S. There are many complaints about this inaccuracy and poor reliability of its GPS functions. thanks I never faced such issues at all when installed on my previous NexusOne and present HD2 Android and Dell Streak |

QUOTE(omaryoma @ Dec 14 2010, 01:50 PM) hey everyone....i ady installed papago on my galaxy s....how to lock my gps without without connection...my phone always ask for connenction to get my current location....??? ask at the galaxy s forum and see whether you can get better assistancemy experience with the galaxy S, the gps is dissapointing, unreliable and inaccurate. This is a hardware related issue , acknowledged by Samsung. Based on my ownership of several recent Android/Windows Mobiles smartphones I will only give it a rating of 4 versus HTC HD (WM) - 10, HTC TP2 (WM) - 9, HTC HD2 on android -10, NexusOne (9), Dell Streak (9), iPhone 3GS/4 ( 8) If GPS is important to you, better get a separate GPS device if you still need the phone This post has been edited by benny888: Dec 14 2010, 02:18 PM |

QUOTE(hangy2k @ Dec 16 2010, 09:44 PM) Google and Download Google Maps [brut] version 4.4.0-brut16 ( about 6.7MB) - is afree download. You can use this to replace your default Gpoogle Maps for voice assisted navigation. I used this several times when I go up to Kuala Lumpur and in Singapore. The navigation features quite similar to MapKing but it has a top header with directions listed. It works very well ( at least I never got lost in KL and Spore) and successfully guided me. The voice however is slightly on robotic tone and pronunciation of road names is not very good, I'd said similar to PapagoX5.This post has been edited by benny888: Dec 17 2010, 10:51 AM |

QUOTE(Fornx @ Dec 17 2010, 03:51 PM) It will be trial version at first. If you like it , then pay for it. If you want a faster more convenient way , buy locally online or go to M3 shops :Get Papago X5 mobile here : you can buy online or from any of their stores: http://www.m3shoppe.com/index.php?page=sho...emart&Itemid=26 Installation is self explanatory - comes with instructions If you want, download and update the latest maps from here : http://www.malfreemaps.com/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=9628 If you use GPS navigation a lot, this is a good purchase. I bought it during the last PC Fair and it works well on my previous NexusONe, Galaxy S and present Dell Streak and HD2 ( Android rom ) even though it is said it will have issues on Froyo ; so far no issue that I am aware of |

Some comments on Galaxy S; Don't expect too much from this phone as its GPS is , I hate to say is horribly poor. It is a hardware issue , and acknowledged by Samsung in the early months but till now still not rectified. PaPago X5 can run on it but sometimes you have to bear with the slower GPS lockup. Not only that it can be at times ridiculously inaccurate and unreliable . My worst experience was once on the highway on my way to KL, at Sg Besi toll it suddenly shows me to be in Rome\Italy !!!
You will also read of many users failing to install it on the SGS as I guess ( no offence to anyone) they were trying to install some other non-genuine versions. As for me, the installation is very simple and straightforward just like my other Android phones. Once installed, launch it and it works , the maps will be shown though the GPS lockup takes longer |

QUOTE(MyWifeCar @ Dec 18 2010, 03:25 PM) This is my first time to encounter someone saying never get lost in KL with any Navi maps.... That is maybe because the places I go to are established areas ; did not go to any ulu places. To KL'lites the areas I go to are maybe common but to me is completely new. For example until today I am still confused between Damansara Jaya and Damansara Utama and Bandar Utama.Maybe it is just me... when I used it, sure got some road changes or road maintenance going on....then need to reroute to Holland.... |

Dunno why this info never updated to M3 staffs Added on December 21, 2010, 10:44 am QUOTE(Sampo @ Dec 21 2010, 10:37 AM) Papago took me the HOLLAND yesterday. It is 101% Galaxy S poor GPS function which is generally unreliiable, inaccurate and slow lockup. The software is excellent on my present Dell Streak and HD2 ( Android rom)I found the interface on Papago is much nicer than others. However I think the refresh rate is slower and most time my current direction pointer is out from the actual location (i.e. my car is on other side of road) Maybe it is not fully supported on Froyo yet. Or maybe is because of my Galaxy device Read post #1019 Page 51 my personal experience using the Galaxy S This post has been edited by benny888: Dec 21 2010, 10:44 AM |

QUOTE(lch78 @ Jan 3 2011, 10:58 PM) I do find that sometimes Papago cannot initialize the GPS. Therefore you find that your satellite always blinking to no end. YES you will face such problems using Galaxy S , which I have also used beforeWhat I normally do is, minimize Papago, open google map, GPS initialize (can see from the notification bar), then maximize Papago from the notification bar (leave googlemap open). I do not face such issues on my previous NexusOne, and current HD2 ( Android ) and Dell Streak |
