i am using garmin. how do i check which mode i am using? so i should use 'maps' and not satellite maps?  besides garmin, i saw there's 'maps' in the application as well. but never use it b4. dats nokia maps?
*
Garmin don't have satelite maps mode and u not suppose to have massive download with garmin, the most garmin use the downloading will be the wether data, traffic data, flight data but those data suppose very small of it's size.

Maps for older firmware is the Nokia Maps and for newer firmware it would be the Ovi Maps V3.0 and these both gps software do have the satelite maps display where that the resource hungry eye candy that lure lots of bandwidth when use. This also apply to the google Maps which worst cause it WON'T even run if u're offline. brows.gif

ooo...icic...hmm...but i don install any software also...sigh...except that there's this 'Email' which i think i got it from nokia...perhaps dats the culprit?
*
YES that mostly IS the culprit, nokia email do connect to the net automatically if u not set it into "go offline" and close it because although u close it it's still running at background, easy way to check is u open up the email and see how many mails u've already downloaded and add up it's size u might end up >10mb data transfer. Another way to check is u can go to your LOGS where it will record down every single on/off line data transfer. nod.gif
for maxis user i do recomment to totally delete it's 3G setting to prevent any accidently online, and get the setting back when u need it by go throught the setup wizzard. Or u can dial *100# and suscript the 3G for hour/day plan when u know u would be online through 3G this will save lots of $$ by only using their dam stupid "on demand" rate which can be killing. vmad.gif

Easiast way "Potong sajalah" and use the digi hahahaha rclxms.gif

any one using sygic mobile??

minor problem and very laggy, maps not in detail.

so far the malfreemap is the best in detail maps u can get for malaysia using garmin, i do like the ovi maps as it's more smooth during navigation (and will clearly auto zoom when there're dual lane) but too bad the maps is not detail enough for malaysia especially the POI.

Like others say there's not "perfect" solution for the GPS all depend on what u looking for and where u are. whistling.gif

Depend how u use ur phone lah, the phone standby currently only use ~3mA mah...

QUOTE

1. Phone in standby (gsm), no wifi/bt, screen not lid and phone in lock mode
Current measure: Average 3mA through out the day, 1320mAH/3mAH=440 hours.

2. Phone in use, no wifi/bt, screen lid (75%) and phone in unlock mode
Current measure: Average 160mA within 1 hour, 1320mAH/160mAH=8.25 hours.
screen brightness: 100% > 210mA = 1320mAH/210mAH=6.29 hours
screen brightness: 75%  > 160mA (different: 50mA) = 1320mAH/160mAH=8.25 hours
screen brightness: 50%  > 120mA (different: 40mA) = 1320mAH/120mAH=11 hours
screen brightness: 25%  > 110mA (different: 10mA) = 1320mAH/110mAH=12 hours
screen brightness: 0%  > 95mA (different: 15mA) = 1320mAH/95mAH=13.89 hours

3. Phone in call mode, no wifi/bt, screen off (sensor) and phone in calling mode
Current measure: Average 165mA within 10 mins, 1320mAH/165mAH=8 hours.

4. Phone in standby (gsm), wifi/bt ON (active), screen not lid and phone in lock mode
Current measure: Average 40mA within 10 mins, 1320mAH/40mAH=33 hours.

5. Phone in standby (gsm), wifi/bt OFF, GPS ON, screen not lid and phone in lock mode
Current measure: Average 80mA within 30 mins, 1320mAH/80mAH=16.5 hours.

From these result we can say the phone will dead easily if you navigating because the screen will lid and the GPS is on which will consume 240mA not include those heavy calculation and voice feedback this make the average navigation from fresh charge can last +/- 5 hours. Other setting like video capture, music playing and photo shoot also consider heavy load on the device but only if someone can do the measurement while I'm done here.

People easily got confuse saying device power hungry but if we really calculate how we use the device it all will add up (come on those wattage won't just dissapear in air)

Overall I can say the device done very well on it's standby current usage (3mA) this is out standing coz your phone still alive while only 3mA been supply to all it's hardware.

QT just an platform for apps programming including those UI, the pyhton as well have the same usage.

ppl do easily carry away with those modern OS/UI, but do ask yourself will ppl hoping to run xp/vista/win7 for their 386/486 pc??

some sources already mention the new firmware will be out with ks but no new hs as 5530 because the current hs for 5800 are some sort of brand related to the 5800 itself, it's not that 5800 unable to support 5530 hs but the manufacturer just DON'T want to create it. This will be the same as the OS/UI itself, if we compare the hardware spec the 5800 even can run every single OS/UI/Apps as good as the N97/N97 Mini coz the processor/ram/graphic are the same. whistling.gif

Compare with PC world it will be same as the IBM compatible user looking for MAC OS UI, if only later got emulator that can be ported to the specify OS then cross platform will be possible to run any possible apps as you wanted.

Lesson learn here would be, b4 we even getting a new hp or pc, look for the one that fit your requirement and any FUTURE update would be a bonus for the buy. icon_idea.gif

Hi, does anyone here provide me a rough estimate for the price to replace my defective 5800's LCD screen (fuzzy display, touch screen still works) at the authorized Nokia Care Center and how long it'll usually take for them to repair it?

Thanks!

You still have your warranty valid? if yes then it cost nothing

Unfortunately, i purchased my phone while i was in Dubai, UAE. So, i would have to pay for the service cost of repairing my 'hardware' problem since my warranty only covers UAE.

So, any idea on how much it would cost to replace my faulty LCD screen?
*
no idea, u can just check at the NCC but i think it will be not cheap as the LCD is kind of like the heart of the TS.

This is the latest Nokia Maps "FOC" release in the net currently:

Ovi Maps v3.01.4401 (old interface got route simulation, work slower)
Ovi Maps v3.03.3507 (new interface no route simulation, work faster)

Still prefer Garmin XT as the maps is the most detail for Malaysia thumbup.gif

this was out like almost half year ago rite? Now using xpress sketch 0.2..to me its even better
*
It's not accurate 100% because of the user usage behaviour, some day use all day long some day use less then an hour, although the batt indicator showing 100% accuracy NOW but how long the batt will last fully dependent on what/how you gonna use your phone NEXT mah doh.gif

Anyone can give me any suggestion on the best SP and Casing (Thinner the better) for Nokia 5800?

invisible sheild? but heard it's hard to apply and not really pretty at the edge.
but if only sp i think it should be ok, the hardness of this sp is confirmed the best because u can't even make a scratch with a key. nod.gif

dam! the microsoft live messenger screwed up my phone after installation. The phone won't boot up after install (hang at the logo)

lulu apps, forgot that I should try pull out the mem card before i do the hard reset, but who care already done a full restore and found out something that might be useful for others:

When we doing a hard reset, C: will get formatted, and those previously install apps will get REINSTALL icon_idea.gif
but in order to get those apps reinstall it have to be SIGNED and not HACKED icon_rolleyes.gif

So I've decided to get all my preferable apps to signed properly then install shiok shiok after the V40 release brows.gif

No, ur problem isnt solved. infact, there is a huge problem that u hv not realised. from what u hv said, screen blacken with rainbow stripes ( i assume its on the right side) would most probably mean ur LCD is spoiled. U need a replacement.
*
The black screen then rainbow color then fade into right side then auto reboot thing all CONFIRMED is software related and not the hardware problem, i can do a demo to simulate the effect again and again on the same corrupted software after the do a disk scan.

It's quite troublesome as the removable mem seem easily been screwed up and once something corrupted if u lucky it can be resolve by reinstall the affected apps but if u like me un-lucky then everytime try to reinstall those corrupted apps it just turn the screen to rainbow then reboot. sweat.gif

Some grey question about the sign cert, saw everywhere stating level 17 cert.
What actually mean by level 17? how much level are there and which one is the most powerful level 1 or level >1?
Some of the apps we can't install it although we signed it with the OPDA cert (level 17), example are the most of those file manager (activefile, fexplorer,x-plore) coz most of these apps only able to install into the hacked phone.

sorry if this out topic tongue.gif

hmm...actually these days my gps cant lock without restarting my phone
agps + igps turned on, either "automatic" or "always ask"

same same here, the gps always "san san" one, sometimes it can connect within mins and sometimes take forever.
also it's very weather/time dependent. back to basis all depend on how strong the satelite signal u're getting from ur location during finding a fix.
if a-gps enable it will direct give u the prox. location detail which will initial setup all possible satelite at ur location and waiting for the actual satelite signal to be receive.
