My friend gave me a Buddha statue months ago in covered with cloth. He does not pray anymore so decided to give me as I'm buddha also.

The Buddha statue unopen (the cloth i mean) until now, and I'm have some difficulties to deal with my housemate with this problem.

What should I do? Send to temple? What is the actual procedures?

you dont want to keep the statue?

if no:

1. give to a friend as gift

2. like some other forumers mention, donate it to temple of your choice. i'm pretty much sure, they'll accept it

Ok, donate to a major temple. Can I know where is the temple located? I'm in Shah Alam. Is ok to bring to PJ, anywhere within Klang Valley.

Anyone here want a buddhist statue? I can give to you. I don't have a lot buddhist friends over here.

Christians don't pray to a statue of Jesus. So they won't mind if you throw the statue of Jesus into the dustbin.

If you are afraid of bad tidings, just give it to the nearest temple. Most will take it. I have 2 very nice ones that was given away by my boss from my old workplace long time ago. I'm not Bhuddist but i like the statues. The bronze one was damaged last year, i thought of giving it to a temple nearby. But i need to do some refurbishment of it first.

I understand how you feel. Sometimes just follow what you feel is right. Advise are aplenty, and you will know which is the right ones.

Yes it is man made object. But you don't realise YOU are also made by man. So when you were made (born) and not gotten any bigger but was dumped in a rubbish bin, because the man that made you feel it is a hassle to keep you. So how would you feel? If you ever got the chance to express yourself when the first light shone in your eyes?

Hi,

Yes, you can give it away. There are many Buddhist temples around. One is the Poh Lum temple on Jalan Gasing, PJ. There is also a Thai Temple on Jalan Gasing.

Old Town also got one. Just ask the people around there. Further, there is Old Klang Road (Buddhist Centre (?))

Anyway, if your housemate doesn't like it, you can always put it in your own room. Unless he/she also finds it objectionable.

See lots of people posting stuff. Show some reverence to other people's beliefs, ok? Yes, it is just a statue, Buddhists shouldn't place so much emphasis on objects. But that doesn't mean they should throw them away either.

There are a lot of people lacking knowledge of each others religion. At least if you are not 100% into "their" religion, at least some knowledge would be appreciated.

For Bhuddist, a prayed statue for them would carry a soul inside. As TS stated the statue was prayed before, it is not right for the first owner to give it to TS. He/she should have given to temple. But as TS graciously accepted it, the soul of the statue would be at peace. But if abandoned, would prove to give out bad tidings to TS. Once the statue is given to the temple, they would do prayers for it. Last i know it to set the soul free or something. Now this i know because i have talked about it with a lot of bhuddist friends. They said the same thing. The modern bhuddist people are not as superstitious though.

Btw to everyone, i'm Chatholic Christian, i have a Indian neighbour that prays to their god i dunno which one la (got elephant statue), i grew up in malay populated area, and have a lot of bhuddist friends to go to every chinese new year today.

I'm not saying i know every darn religion there is. But at least i know some to know how to gain respect from their practices.

If you dont need the statue, you should not have accepted it.
However, you can always consult temple keepers or monks for advice.

Laugh all you want. You could fill in the blanks, pat yourself on the back. But you did not mention i was right. I could call you names and make fun of you with animals that does not need to be male of female to reproduce. But thats not the point. Anyway TS already signed sealed and delivered. Good for him.

k fine. let's not turn this into religious discussion.

just share your thoughts and be gone, if people post differently from your belief, you don't have to go all ballistic. smile.gif

this thread is allows cos TS seeking help, not religious discussion. i think i better move this to Q&A.

Statue might be Buddha, but the soul might be a spirit or gumanthong if you don't know the origin of the Buddha where is the temple from.

Throw it away? Must be kidding.
Better be safe than sorry, you or your family might experience bad luck for your entire life or even next generation.

Bodoh la you. If you give a Christian any Jesus statue, they will gladly throw it away, as no real Christian will worship a statue. A statue is just an object for remembrance not for you to worship doh.gif

Also, how naive of you to think that the temple will keep your Buddha statue? I can guarantee you that after taking "donation " from you, the statue will also end up in the bin. Else, we would have seen thousands upon thousands of unwanted statue in temple.

Do you mind to capture some picture. Maybe you can give away and undergo purification again.
