Bumped, curious to hear about their working environment from ppl who actually work there too

Sensed some red flags with them when I interviewed for their Japanese Master Data Management position (they asked whether I’m willing to work on weekends and do OT)

Is it because most FMCG companies have long working hours?🤔

P.S. only good thing is that they offer up to 21 days AL

Omg that’s terrible..

I applied to them via a recruitment agency, so I should know the outcome by this week or next week (not optimistic because my Japanese speaking sucked and I was apprehensive when they said there’s OT expected)

Their Japanese interviewer was surprisingly fluent in English tho (maybe because Japanese working in an European MNC are expected to have a good command of English?🤔)😮

P.S. Found an older thread about this company here, seems like long working hours is the norm?

The reviews for the Malaysian office don’t look that great on Glassdoor either..

Long work hours and weekend is "common" expectation in FMCG line, that's why they pay a bit better in a way. If you're not ready to be on standby after work and/ or weekends (perhaps not every weekend - verify with your interviewer), this industry isn't for you.

Well, I’m not expecting it to be a long hour job as it’s just a data entry job, but I guess that might not be the case for an FMCG company🙂

I’m pretty sure there are Japanese speaking positions in other company that pay a similar salary but with less workload..

Well aint sure what's the range they're offering you to say high or low. Also, if they specifically requires a Japanese-speaking person (ie. to deal with customer or a 3rd party), they would probably pretty much expect a certain level of conversational proficiency. But otherwise if it's just some basic Japanese to be able to talk to your boss or some of the colleagues, this would be easier to score (since you mentioned speaking wise isn't really fluent).

The 3rd party recruiter was very reluctant to disclose the actual salary range when I asked, and told me to put RM6k for the expected salary because “they will only pay 20% above your current salary” (which I went along with as I’m not super interested in the position anyways).

I wish them all the best in finding someone who is willing to work 50-60 hrs per week for that kind of salary though (and probably with zero career progression)🙂
