Yesterday, I've bought HTC Hero but why the Hero does not have Android Market? The application in SlideMe is not much as Android Market. The SlideMe does not have search menu, I can't download yahoo messenger.

One more thing, why the browser cannot save pictures from the website?

Anybody can help me?
I really need the help because this is my first PDA.

Thanks..

I don't think market can be just "added" on the phone, you will need to downgrade then flashed to a better rom, such as modaco's rom. It may seem hard, but if you can follow simple instructions. It should be easy.

Only SlideME SAM.

It's either 1. flash your Hero with another ROM and void your warranty, or 2. stick with current ROM and miss tons of awesome apps.

Easy call.

It doesn't really void your warranty as it is reversible

HTC Malaysia currently does not have the license to distribute google apps such as the market. so phone you buy here do not have them installed.

head over to
forum.xda-developer.com
head over to the hero section and get a better ROM.

that pretty much the only thing you can do.

Yes, you can ... but you will need to tick home -> menu -> settings -> applications -> unknown sources. This will allow the browser to accept any .apk file and install it.

Whether you can legally find apps on websites is another issue though. Most developers couldn't be bothered and just pulish their software on the android market only. There are loads of pirated stuff online that can be found online though ...

Actually, I wonder why the local hero doesn't have market on it too, when the UK hero does. Is it because it is HTC branded and not "telco branded". It does have all the other "google experience" apps on it such as google maps, although it does not carry the Google Experience logo on the back, which are not part of Android Open Source Project. So how come the rest and not Market?

Anyway, for those who have a local hero/magic, your choices are either to (1) live with SlideMe and other alternative markets (2) root your phone and install an OS (warranty/legal issues) or (3) stick to whatever pirated apps you can get (legal issues) ...

A strange play by google.

aker,

Have you looked at the other posts in the forum? My post here:

http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=29384871

Seemed detail enough, if you're on a celcom hero.

But if you're not too confident with this kind of thing, try and get someone to help. I don't know if any of the shops are willing to do it for you, especially since they will not support warranty on other ROMs.

Maybe someone needs to organize a "hero rootfest" teh-tarik gathering ... 8-)

since not all hero users will understand the procedures to install the ROM into their device..

Are you sure about that? What if in the process you bricked your Hero.. will they entertain you and fix it for you? But I believe, not that many technicians are tech savy anyway and they'll just go and replace a new mobo for you if you claim warranty .. biggrin.gif

You can actually. I just got my Hero 2 weeks ago. The stock Hero ROM (warranty by SIS) is good enough for me, very happy with it. The only thing missing is the market, so i google around and found a way to put virtually any market apps that i like into my Hero. Nice. Not sure if i can share the how-to here though.

Now, waiting for HTC to release the Android 2 for the Hero.
