I think from previous threads, the conclusion was PBVE can do just about everything a CC can.

RHB Debit Card recent weekend cash back promotion was pretty good. Quick payout, and I got something back unlike other banks which was so restrictive that all I ever got was the 0.5%.

QUOTE(MilesAndMore @ Nov 25 2010, 11:20 PM) Because he might want to make a deposit into his account because there isn't enough money in his account. Wouldn't it be easier to use a debit card from the same bank (where the funds are kept), so he doesn't have to find an ATM machine to make deposits in the middle of the night? |

Apparently, some retailers add on the service charge for Debit cards, but NOT Credit cards. Anyone come across this?

One disadvantage of a Debit card:
When you check into a hotel, they will normally ask for a Credit card as a deposit/guarantee. I traveled recently without a Credit card and found they wouldn't accept a Debit card, but asked for a cash deposit instead. |

If you have a card that you will never use for any online transactions, is there any point/reason to get it Verified by VISA or MasterCard SecureCode?

QUOTE(MilesAndMore @ Dec 23 2010, 09:15 PM) Yes. It would be recommended that you enroll for it still. Just in case your card details are compromised and the @#$% goes on an online shopping spree, the @#$% won't be able to use your card at those websites that require Verified by VISA or MasterCard SecureCode password before a payment can go through. That would cut down the choices somewhat for the *****. Unless the ***** is spectacularly choosy about what he/she buys, he/she could still do damage to the maximum. At least until such time as ALL sites require that extra verification. But I take your point. |

QUOTE(cshong @ Jan 5 2011, 08:54 PM) Beside public bank visa electron card, can someone tell me what other debit card (from any bank) that is not linked to your bank account or the card account will be a separate account? I suspect very few cards fall into that category. Some banks, eg RHB don't even provide that option at all AFAIK.I don't use PBVE much anymore, but I'm keeping it because of that feature, for internet purchases. |

QUOTE(altecphoto @ Apr 3 2011, 02:20 AM) Anyone knows how long does it take for the PB Esso mobil card to be approved? I applied mine at the damansara jaya branch for almost 2 weeks already, sitll no reply from them. The last card I applied for took nearly a month. I suspect it is the same for all cards. |

Is it possible to link/register a new PB Debit card with an existing pbebank.com account online or via the ATM?
Or the only way is to go to the bank branch? |

QUOTE(MilesAndMore @ Jun 22 2011, 10:15 AM) Yes, just had it done at a branch. And how unbelievably inefficient they are at this: - when you first apply for the card, this should already be part of the form asking about what you want to do, and sign your requirement at the same time. - when you pick the card at the branch (if you chose that option), they should at least let you know you need to sign up for linking and do it at that point, without having to go back to the branch, again. - if your IC number and name match on Debit card application and the existing pbebank.com login, they should just let you do all this on-line. No need to waste time in traffic, parking fees and waiting in queue for their Customer Service to fill in those *** forms. |

Some banks allow for the Debit card annual fee to be waived, if you have sufficient swipes, and if you asked them.
Anyone tried it with RHB? |

QUOTE(castelloz @ Jul 4 2011, 06:57 PM) Whats the use of debit card when I still can use my credit card and top money in my credit card and treat it just like i use the debit card? Interesting question.Haven't come across anything that discusses debit vs credit cards, if such a discussion is even meaningful, but I'll contribute a few cents. For me, not necessarily in any order: - debit cards don't have that RM50 tax - credit card fees are more than debit cards - I use not-linked-to-anything debit cards for internet purchases - I only deposit what I expect to spend plus some - I have no intention of using the credit facilities - for my type of purchases, credit card rewards are not better than debit cards - credit card applications ask too many questions - debit cards can do everything I need, except one situation - hotels don't accept debit cards as deposit when you check in |
