IMO, HLB is a waste of time as far as their customer-focus services are concerned.
They are full of marketing gimmicks, but have little of added-value. Avoid them.

QUOTE(cshong @ Sep 4 2011, 08:50 PM) Ok. Just skip the issue on whether the merchant will know we are using debit card. I know what you are saying, I think. Hotels would not accept debit cards on check-in as guarantee if:All my concern is about using debit card to do advance booking for services that we will only be charged at the time we start using it (e.g. hotel), then that "service provider" refuse to accept debit card during the verification process with their staffs but our bank still put our funds on hold. If we use our debit card to do online reservation for hotel that only charge us during check-in, the bank hold our funds to guarantee the reservation, and we are required to show our card for verification upon check-in at the hotel, but unluckily during check-in the hotel refuse to accept debit card but the funds hold by the bank still haven't being refunded to our debit card account, then there will be problems. I just hope that I won't have to apply credit card just for hotel booking. - your hotel booking has already been paid for, and - they require a deposit for the things you might eat out of the fridge and any other costs you might incur, etc If you are using the debit card as payment up front for how many days you are going to be staying, there are no problems. The guarantee seems to be part of that, from what I've found. Added on September 4, 2011, 10:18 pm QUOTE(hye @ Sep 4 2011, 10:08 PM) As I mentioned, hotel require a form of guarantee and they used to ask for cash in lieu of credit / debit cards. Just to add on to my previous post, hotels would accept cash or credit card as guarantee, but NOT debit cards. That is, going by the 2 hotels in Singapore I visited last year. This post has been edited by howszat: Sep 4 2011, 10:18 PM |

QUOTE(cshong @ Sep 4 2011, 11:12 PM) If the hotel refuse to accept my debit card even though there are enough funds in my account, I just pay by using cash. If the bank will automatically release the hold on my funds in just a few days after I check-in or after I tell the bank that I am paying to the hotel by cash, without require any more hassles, then I have no problem. There may be a question on guarantee, but there is never a question on accepting debit cards as payment IF you have enough in your account. There is no such thing as "release" or "hold" your funds by your bank - what you have in your debit card is what you can spend without questioning by your bank, subject to daily limits or any other limits imposed by your bank. |
