Just wrote an article for my blog called Ringgit  Wise Fool about iTunes Account for children and what Debit Card to use. Is it more like an article for parents wanting to get Apple iTouch/iPhone/iPad and signing up for iTunes Account for their child.

In a nut shell -

if you are 13 years and above with a MyKad, go get Public Bank Debit Card as it is the most convenient one to use for online transactions and easily sign up Pay Pal with it. You'll need your parent or guardian consent on the application form so drag them to Public Bank.

if you are 13 and below ask your dad/mum go read my article below  tongue.gif

for the debit card on pbb, its better use esso/mobil smile.gif

coz its free for life without any conditions!
while other pbb card need to swipe 12x/year to waived the rm24 annual fee.
the esso/mobil card also have 0.5% cashback.

but its only for 12 years old and above.

oh maybank visa debit also dont have any annual fee.

for aged 12 to 18 years, Indemnity Letter is mandatory to be signed by the parents or guardian as a condition to open imtenn Account.
The parents or guardian are required to go to the branch to sign the Indemnity Letter for access to Maybankard Visa Debit.

its easy to transfer to maybank acc since almost parents nowadays have m2u smile.gif

Hi. I've got a question for Maybank Visa Debit users. Is it possible for you guys to check your account balance via the ATM? Because I tried checking my account balance (Wadiah Savings Account) using the debit card but the ATM there states that my PIN was invalid even though I was able to access the main menu using my original PIN.

Does anyone encounter this same problem or is it just me?

P.S I've changed from the regular Maybankard to the Maybank Visa Debit card just last month.
*
yes it is possible to check the bank acc with mbb visa debit.

but, can access main menu doesnt mean ur PIN num is correct. try to withdraw, if got same error (invalid PIN), then ur PIN is really wrong.
usually when upgrade (or get new/replacement) card, new temporary PIN need to be set, then need to be changed at the ATM.

for mbb, during upgrade card from normal atm to visa debit, usually they will ask u to key-in (press) the PIN number on the device at the counter.
later u go change it at ATM.

if u cant withdraw money, then pls go to service counter inside.

can the PB esso debit card be used to buy gsc tickets online. it says on the site

Mayban 2u , cimb clicks & credit card smile.gif
*
yes can.

actually the 'credit card' means any card with visa/mastercard logo smile.gif

pbb esso debit card got visa logo, so can use.
but make sure u activate the Verified By Visa (VbV).

*
it depends on where u want to use it.

example if u usually pump petrol at esso/mobil, then go for pbb esso/mobil debit, got 1% cashback for petrol.
others, u can refer to their website (see page 1).

i'm using MBB card only. easy and collect point
*
sorry to say but mbb points seem a little bit not worthing.

its bcoz u only get 1 point for RM3. minimum points to redeem is 2000 for voucher of RM10 (McD / Watson / Popular / Carrefour).

and to get 2000 points, u need to swipe RM6000 sweat.gif

for me, better go for PBB Day2Day card. (http://www.pbebank.com/en/en_content/perso...s/visa_d2d.html)

u get 0.8% cashback for any petrol & groceries.

means if u swipe RM6000 for petrol & groceries u can get back rm48 already (rm38 more than MBB!).
even swipe RM1000 already get back RM8 thumbup.gif

while for others, its 0.3% cashback. swipe RM6000 get back RM18 (still, more RM8 than MBB) ~

but if u looking for card that not linked to bank acc, better go for PBB esso/mobil debit.

1% cashback at esso/mobil and 0.5% elsewhere.

if u never swipe for groceries (and petrol), then for other things, RM6000 can get back RM30 already thumbup.gif

i have been reading about the PB esso/mobil with great interest as i alwiz pump at their petrol station.

the thing that concern me is that it doesn't link to bank account. thus, we would hv to constant top it up at deposit machine or online transaction...which actually incurred money(online transaction fee)/petrol/parking..

currently i'm having maybank account with their debit card..
is there possible to link the PB card to a PB bank account?
*
no, not possible to link notworthy.gif

just transfer ur balance from MBB to PBB once a month, costing u only RM2. so no need to worry about petrol/parking anymore ~

Wow. This is the best ever explanation. Yeah, maybank cherry debit card is worth nothing if you are looking at earning points.

By the way, online purchase for example buy gsc movie ticket using your debit card, can get the rebate or not? Just wandering. Cos i read before someone stating only swipe transaction count. Online not counted.
*
tq notworthy.gif

yes online purchase also got rebate.

those didnt get rebate are petrol, grocery, casino transactions, cash withdrawal, government-related and charity payments and utility bills payment via www.pbebank.com, PB Telebanking and ATM.

open PBB saving acc, and moved ur money there.

then transfer online from saving acc PBB to PBB debit, no charge at all.

settle ~ notworthy.gif

QUOTE(Amanda85 @ Feb 6 2011, 08:59 PM)
juz a curious note..wat do PB earn from us? as i heard no annual fees also
*
QUOTE(cshong @ Feb 6 2011, 09:37 PM)
They earn from the transaction we made. Do note that merchant need to pay some cost for every credit / debit card transaction. I believe the card issuer also earn some funds from that cost.
*
there are many ways bank can make money, and yes 1 of the way is the fee they charged for merchant terminal rental and transactions.

example machine rental is rm80/month and each transaction of debit card 3%.
example if u swipe rm1000 at jusco, jusco will only received rm970 (PBB take RM30).
Then from that RM30 they will give back to u RM5 (0.5%), they still got profit of RM25.

QUOTE(TypeR @ Feb 9 2011, 11:16 PM)
I'm using CIMB E Mastercard for doing online transaction such as online purchases.

I saw my CIMB E Mastercard account...

Why there's "Outstanding Balance" = RM -57.40

While my Credit balance = RM2,310.40

I thought CIMB E Mastercard is free for life? No charges? How come got outstanding Balance?

And how do I made payment? I try to make payment on the website it only make fund transfer from saving account to credit balance of E Mastercard only not the outstanding balance...

Please help.
*
1. free for life means no annual fee.
2. ur outstanding balance is negative, means u got rebate or cashback. so no need to worry about anything smile.gif
3. since ur outstanding is negative, thats why u cannot make fund transfer to the E-MC account.

now, if u swipe rm57.40 and below, CIMB wont deducted ur balance.

note: negative outstanding balance means bank owned u, not u owned the bank!

Hi..i using maybank debit card...i wan to ask..if my card is lost and i found it out after 2 day its lost..during the period..someone is spend the money Rm500 inside..can i refund the money back? I already call to terminate and transfer out all the balance inside. And the fellow use my money to pay Maxis Kiosk and Petronas.
*
QUOTE(MilesAndMore @ Feb 10 2011, 12:42 AM)
Unlikely ... but since he paid a Maxis bill using your card, may be you can lodge a police report ? Very stupid of him/her if the Maxis bill is his/her own bill  sweat.gif
*
QUOTE(fool1988 @ Feb 10 2011, 01:54 AM)
But possible i can take back the money? Anyone experience before?
*

1st, when u noticed ur card is lost, u should call the bank immediately to block/cancel the card, then make police report.

but u said u only find out after 2 days, usually bank wont entertain u sweat.gif

but, like MilesAndMore said, since the thief using ur card to pay maxis bill, u can track it.
make police report, then submit to the bank and also to maxis.
probably (not confirmed), since it will be a police case, maxis will refund back to maybank (and back to you) and maxis will charged back the maxis owner on the next bill.
even if this is happening, it will take times.

Haiz..I admit this was my careless..Because i doesn't got the habit kept checking the wallet ATM slot i guess lot of ppl should same with me. Somemore recently i being busy for my final exam so i didnt going out much so didnt spend lot of money until need to withdraw money from ATM bank. I already do the police report and tomorrow i will submit to bank and also maxis probably. But if submit to maxis. What i can do? Should i tell Maxis my maybank account number so that they can check who using this account to pay the maxis bill? Or i just wait police to investigate on Maxis side? Btw, if i can get back the money i will ok with it..Rm500 might not lot for some working adult but it does made sense for student likes me.  cry.gif
*
tell maxis that ur visa had been stolen and being used to paid maxis bill, show them the police report, then ask maxis to check the account number that being paid using ur visa number.

no need to give maxis ur maybank acc number, maxis should reverted the payment back to ur visa (in this case, it will goes to ur maybank acc) and charged back the maxis account owner.

and from the acc number, u can get the phone number, u can give the phone number to police to trace the thief.

good luck!

just wanna ask fellow sifus here, does maybankard platinum debit have any difference as compared to the normal visa debit?

few days back, i went to a club, sanctuary, and i did not bring so much cash, therefore i tried using the debit card, the bill is RM565, and i have around 1k+ in my account, therefore supposingly, it should go through.. however, the waiter told me there's "card error" stated on the machine.... and this is not my first time using it.. no idea why sad.gif

therefore, opting to change to the platinum debit, hoping that it can get authorization easier compared to visa debit.. and also, for platinum, will my name be embossed on the card? smile.gif cheers and thx for helping me out
