TS, 1st post, for alliancebank, besides younique, they also offer:

standard debit mastercard - for current/savings acc
platinum debit mastercard- for current acc (not applicable for islamic acc) with min deposit rm20k
premier debit mastercard - for privilege banking customers only

Added on April 22, 2011, 3:27 pmbtw, for me, alliancebank plat debit mastercard is the best debit card?

1.5% cashback (no tier-based!) ALL transaction (even petrol!), capped at rm60/month (first rm4k only).

still, better than pbb esso mobil debit visa that give 1% at esso/mobil only brows.gif

plus, FREE (got monthly quota) access to plaza premium klia & lcct!

(only, maybe not many people can open acc with min deposit rm20k)

pbb esso debit got no annual fee but alliance debit got. not many ppl afford to apply for it
*
oh yeah the annual fee.
alliance plat = swipe rm4k get back rm60.
pbb esso = swipe rm4k get back rm20 (0.5% for non esso/mobil).
diff rm40. minus annual fee still get profit rm28 smile.gif

even swipe rm4k for petrol, pbb esso can get back rm40 only.
alliance after annual fee still get profit of rm2 brows.gif

(OT, for petrol i'm using mbb2 amex)

Public Bank ESSO/Caltex VISA debit card. Can see all transaction history via Public Bank Online. Can be used for all internet transactions too. Absolutely annual fee free. You'll also get a monthly printed statement stating all your past transactions.
*
1. its pbb esso/mobil, not caltex sweat.gif

2. additional info, for under 18, the form will have to be completed and signed by the applicant's parent/guardian.

ur arrival date is no prob if the website allowed it.

previously i booked airasia in IDR (Indonesian Rupiah) about 10 month in advanced, no problem.
(long story: previously if u buy 1 way ticket from another country than MY, u need to pay in their currency, but now no more, can convert and pay in RM using M2U already - to avoid Convenience fee if paid using card!)

i also used my maybank visa debit to purchased online in USD currency lot of time.

pre-authorization:
1. is by bank (not the website/hotel)
2. usually less than a week
3. the amount being hold will follows the bank's currency exchange on that day
.

some website (yahoo as example) charge $1 then refund it back later (about 16 days).

see my example of transaction history (edited) to refer:
Attached Image

as u can see,
13-Apr, i bought something worth $7.99, and maybank preauth it for rm24.68.
16-Apr, mbb revised it back and charged accordingly (sale), which is rm24.44.
(the date rev & sale shows 12-Apr is because following US date)

so the pre-auth is about 3 days only ~

and for yahoo example, i bought something from them, they charge $1 on 01-Apr then refund it back on 17-Apr.
(not showing in the picture to avoid confusing : yahoo pre-auth of sale on that 01-Apr is revised on 06-Apr, about 5 days).

so, for ur case, if u said about rm1700, then better have balance more a bit than it, example rm1800.

QUOTE(friendlyash @ Apr 25 2011, 05:53 AM)
thanks guys.Ā  rclxms.gifĀ  however to MilesandMore, is your HSBC mastercard a debit card? because if you use a Credit card for sure they will charge the same amount with the one u see on the last transaction page of agoda. but I heard you will surely be charged for more if u use debit card. after you actually checked in and out of the hotel then they will return the balance after deducting the exact payment of your stay.

besides that, you mentioned if I'm staying for one night only and the room rate is RM400, only RM400 will be deducted from my account. what if I stay 2 nights? there will be extra charges? cuz I planned to say at 4 different hotels, 2 of them I will stay for 2 nights.

finally, most of the case we have to bring cash along cuz maybe we have to pay by cash when we arrive at the hotel if we use debit card on agoda rite?

anyone who see my previous message just 2 msg away from this one, please answers my questionĀ  notworthy.gifĀ  cuz I really hope someone who actually booked with a debit card on agoda and real example of holding of cash to share itĀ  biggrin.gif
*
NEVER heard that statement ~

if u using agoda, u need to pay FULL amount, so why will be charged more?
bring cash only if the hotel need deposit, but surely the deposit amount is not same or higher than 1 night rate.

oh i just remembered, i did booked via agoda may last year! pay full amount (using credit card - also hsbc).

off topic : why we booked agoda using hsbc credit card? coz we got discount! smile.gif

QUOTE(eddiez_zz @ Apr 28 2011, 12:19 PM)
hey guys,

i would like to get clarification regarding debit card.

I am currently using HLB ATM debit card.
Few days back, i went to a restaurant and i used my debit card to pay the bill.

i always thought that in order for them to settle the bill with my debit card, they will required me to key in the password.

But surprisingly, the transaction are able to go through without my password.

So guys, is it true that debit card does not come together with password? I felt insecure with this, as all cash money is inside that account.Ā

hope someone could help to explain on this.
thank you in advance.
*
QUOTE(alvinfks78 @ Apr 28 2011, 12:26 PM)
I had that too with my PBB esso with a site. A forumer said the merchant can opt not to use the password. Defeats the purpose of password if you ask me.
*
QUOTE(eddiez_zz @ Apr 28 2011, 12:43 PM)
gosh, that's really defeat the purpose!

This even make us more risky than having a credit card.Ā  vmad.gif
i dont think i am able to convert my debit card to the conventional atm card?
*
actually, it is depends on what the cashier select/press at the merchant terminal;

if the cashier select ATM, then u need to enter the PIN.
if the cashier select Credit, then no need to enter PIN, it will be same as credit card, will approved if have enough balance.

even Maybank Visa Debit if choose ATM will also need to enter PIN ~

ATM also have limited withdraw amount right
*
ATM limit can be changed to max rm5k/day.

rm5k included all transaction at atm (transfer, withdraw, purchase topup, touch 'n go)
means if u already transfer a money rm4k at atm, u can only withdraw rm1k, then u cant topup touch 'n go for the day.

while atm withdraw limit is rm1.5k
for rm5k on 1 time, u need to withdraw rm1.5k then rm1.5k then rm1k then rm1k (4x transaction, so for maybank non-unlimited withdraw option, u already maxed out free withdraw transaction per month)

except for maybank platinum debit card, u can set the max to rm10k/day.

can i open two accounts in the same bank one for debit card and the other one for savings?
*
YES. u will have different account and each account will have their card.

either u linked the debit card with current acc (coz u wont interruped the savings acc), or like bingozero replied, use debit card with their own acc - not related to savings acc.

Hi,

I have a question. I'm going to Italy next month and I do not wish to bring too many cash along. The problem is that I don't have any credit card. My gf has applied for maybank visa debit. I wonder if I can borrow her card while I'm traveling in Italy for visa payment or ATM withdrawal? Is there any procedure I need to follow?

Thanks!
*
u can even use that card for swipe at place that shows visa logo smile.gif

The other day, I wanted to buy a camera with my Maybank Visa debit card. However I was shocked when the salesperson  told me that he would charge X% because of some new rulings from the bank. Could someone please verify this?
*
its not the bank's rules. its just the bank will charge them X% for each transaction via the terminal. and they want customer to bear the cost ~

since the cashier inform u early, u can choose not to use card to pay. or just go find other shop that accept card without any charges.

THe petrol station need Minimum RM200 pre-autorisation.

That means you need to borrow the station RM200 for one or two weeks first then you can pump.

Better go into cashier and pump.
*
esso/mobil and shell can set preset amount at the pump so there wont be any rm200 pre-auth charges smile.gif

hmmm...between public bank n maybank debit card which 1 you guys recommended? im a student....juz use it for purchasing stuff or sometimes online transactions....currently most of my money is in cimb....since cimb is not offering debit card service i plan to move my $$ out
*
go for pbb (public bank bhd). the best is pbb esso/mobil visa debit thumbup.gif

btw cimb do offer debit card, namely CIMB e.MasterCard
this card can use for online, but:
1. cant access via cimbclicks unless u already an existing CIMB Bank credit card member.
2. dont have any advantage (no cashback, no points) sweat.gif

more info about this card - http://www.cimbbank.com.my/index.php?ch=19...0&tpt=cimb_bank

PB debit card from TARC or UTAR is free for life. What if the debit card expire or over valid, is it still free for life?
*
usually 1 month before expiry date bank will send new card with new expiry year, and still, free for life.

better go for PB Esso/Mobil, also free for life.
the card give 0.5% unlimited cashback and 1% cashback at esso/mobil thumbup.gif

coz utar & tarc is points based, rm1 = 1 point, and valid for 3 years only.
and u need to spend rm25k to redeem rm50 shopping voucher! or at least, rm10k to get rm20 mcd voucher! sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif
source: http://www.pbebank.com/en/en_content/image...demption_ge.pdf

while for pb esso/mobil, spend rm25k u will already get back rm125, or rm50 for spending rm10k smile.gif

more info about pbb esso/mobil - http://www.pbebank.com/en/en_content/images/pds_esso_d.pdf

sorry, but the card main disadvantage is cannot do online transaction sad.gif

and the cashback is not unlimited per month ~
