QUOTE(MilesAndMore @ May 3 2010, 04:58 PM)
It doesn't work like that. The rate you quoted is the buying rate and you should use the selling rate instead. Besides, the exchange rate is based on VISA International exchange rate, not Public Bank foreign exchange board rate.

Since the VISA International exchange rate is not listed anywhere, one can only guess and it shouldn't fall far from the rates you see in newspaper, TV or in the bank branch. For foreign transactions, there will also be a 1.25% admin charge on top of the foreign currency exchange rate.
*
oh,i see.so i read the selling rate for currency exchange,usd1=rm3.26
the thing i bought,USD46=RM150.i know that paypal will charge additional RM3 because the item i bought is less than rm400,so the total should be RM153, and why RM157.5 pb charge me?
if the item is more than rm400,it is free from bank withdraw charge.

haiz,im so noob...should have buy paypal fund from other ppl with cheaper rate.

so the 1.25% admin charge of usd46?that means RM1.88 admin charge?

That is why people buy / sell paypal fund over here once upon a time ago.
It's a win win situation for both the seller and the buyer because to avoid the unnecessary charges / fees.
Too bad this forum banned this trading already.
p/s: anyone need paypal fund just drop me a PM.  tongue.gif

QUOTE(MilesAndMore @ May 3 2010, 11:24 PM)
It will follow the MasterCard Worldwide exchange rate.
As i said earlier, the foreign currency exchange rate is set by VISA International, not Public Bank. You will not be able to find the latest VISA International foreign currency exchange rate as it is not publicly published.

By the way, just so we're clear. Did you just withdraw some of your money in PayPal into your PBB D2D VISA debit card or you actually bought something online with the card ? If you just bought something online with the card, then it absolutely had nothing to do with the withdrawal charge imposed by PayPal.
Yes. You will need to factor in the 1.25% admin charge into $46. However, as i have mentioned, you will not be able to find the exact exchange rate VISA is using as the information is not available anywhere. You won't be able to find out the exact exchange rate until it is posted to your account.
the e-statement referred to is actually the transaction history. Not the one quoted earlier as that function is strictly for current account only.
*
ya,i do.i did buy thing from ebay with the card, and deduct from my saving account.

my friend use the public bank tarc debit card which is link with paypal account, he said every time he buy thing from ebay,he top up his debit card by putting the exact amount show on the ebay.so there is no extra charges.
let said he buy ebay item cost usd20=rm65.2,then he going top up rm66 to his debit card at public bank machine, then he can settle the payment for the item he bought at ebay already.he told me that, there is no other additional transaction charges jz like mine do.
assume usd1=rm3.26

is this pb d2d card exactly same function like tarc debit card?

So you do not have to worry about the PayPal charges at all as you will not be charged anything. Even if you pay for something via PayPal, it will be charged directly to your PBB D2D VISA debit card.
Yes. They are almost the same. Just that PBB D2D is a VISA debit card while TARC debit card is a debit Mastercard, both issued by Public Bank.

I was a heavy debit card user before. Let say you buy something that cost $100 and the foreign currency exchange rate selling price quoted by the banks in Malaysia is around $1=RM3.30. One that shops frequently online in sites that charge in foreign currency will know that you can't simply multiply $100 into RM3.30 as it is not that simple. Besides, you must also factoring in the 1.25% admin charge. You will never ever get the exact amount after conversion until the final amount is posted into your account. It works just the same with credit card. Therefore, the experienced debit card users will always deposit a little more into their account in order to avoid the payment from being declined.

By the way, no matter what kind of Public Bank debit card you are using, all payment made in foreign currency is subject to a one-time admin charge of 1.25%.
*
yea,i know the admin charge is 1.25%,kinda cheap anyway,i dont mind to pay 1.25%.

can i top up my pb d2d debit card amount?
same like my friend top up his pb tarc debit card.
because nx time i buy thing from ebay, i dont want the paypal direct deduct from my saving account[it involve the transaction fees(intermediary bank TT fees) as my other forummer said so],jz let it deduct from my debit card.
i know pb d2d is link to my saving account.
thank you

My PB day2day card was blocked by the bank.
Apparently they stated that too many transaction in a day.  sweat.gif
I don't think got even 5 transactions that day.

But their customer service phone number is hopeless.
Nobody answer the phone and you have to listen to the machine and music while your phone credits drains away.  mad.gif
Finally they called me back to verify. Saying security purpose. Scared card stolen.

are u using it on ebay transaction?
and btw,can top up the pb day2day,jz like pb tarc/utar debit card?
or pb visa electron card?i hear tat pb visa electron card is not link with saving account,it has to be top up like top up the touch n go.

It is linked directly to your PLUS Savings Account. Yes, of course you can.
I think you still don't get how this thing works. The Public Bank Day2Day VISA debit card you are using works as an ATM card as well as a debit card. Unlike other range of Public Bank debit card which are all standalone card not linked to your savings or current account at Public Bank, it is linked directly to your PLUS Savings Account and of course every items charged to the card will be directly deducted from your savings account.

I don't get it why you keep saying there is intermediary bank TT fees as there is absolutely none. The charges are the loss of forex as well as the 1.25% admin fee only. That's it ! Nothing more just like how it works for a credit card.
I can assure you that it works more or less the same. There is absolutely no extra charge from PayPal site or any other intermediary bank TT fees when you use your PBB D2D VISA to buy something online from overseas websites.
*
i understand it is atm card as well as debit card.
jz confuse how it work actually.

bank withdrawal fees
https://www.paypal.com/my/cgi-bin/webscr?cm...al-fees-outside
btw,what is return fees?

the item i bougth is
usd46+rm3(refer to 5linese at top) +1.25% admin charge=RM155

usd46=rm150
usd1=rm3.26(buying rate)
Attached Image
i check my pbe online transaction,hold amount=rm157.5
so what is the extra rm2.5 charge for?im curious...
whole my saving account is use for paypal only.

You do not have to worry about the fees in the link you quoted above as it doesn't apply to you at all. It is only applicable to those people who already have money inside their PayPal account through trading or anything they do and it shows a complete list of applicable charges when they transfer the money back to their Malaysian bank account.

Let me stress once more that the fees shown in the link do not apply to you at all !
I assume you paid for the stuff you bought via PayPal, correct ? But you are not transferring money inside your PayPal account back to Malaysian bank account, correct ? Then you can ignore all the fees listed in PayPal website. It has absolutely nothing to do with you.
It is shown as a hold amount because it has not been posted into your account yet. It takes a few days for the payment to be posted into you account, just like credit card.

Can you please please please re-read all the posts i posted earlier ? As i have said over and over again, you won't be able to find out the exact exchange rate used by VISA International. The amount shown (RM157.50) is the rate in RM after they converted the amount charged in USD into MYR and also after factoring in the 1.25% admin fee.
*

OK

LOL,ok.now i fully understand.
thank you.

im just wondering about how my another friend with his maybank debit can get such a cheap transaction...zzz.
he today bought a item cost USD140=RM448.9, which make me curious about my transaction with pb d2d card..zzz
this make me cant sleep tonight...lolz yawn.gif

anyway, thank you for your patient and explanation.i will just wait for few day for the payment posted into my account.

That's because the admin fee charged by Maybank is lower at 0.5%. The exchange rate changes all the time. It could also because when he charged the item into the card, the rate of USD was very very low then.
*
wow, such a low rate admin fee.

i think not much different gua ,he make payment at 1pm,i make payment on 4pm like tat...the exchange rate wont dramatically change so much within few hour gua.

forgot to ask you, exact exchange rate used by VISA International is apply to cc,and other debit card right?

It applies to all VISA range of card such as VISA credit card, VISA debit card, VISA Electron etc. MasterCard credit card, debit MasterCard, Maestro etc. will follow the exchange rate set by MasterCard Worldwide.

i see.
for my case, i guess the exchange rate used by VISA International is higher compare to local bank exchange rate.><
