Hi guys, not sure if this is the right section to post this, sorry if its not.

I have this AI assignment, that requires me to create a chatterbox. Just wondering if you guys know any good topic's or aim's on to build the chatterbox. Im just asking for some suggestions and input's on the chatterbox. Wanna collect some data on what would be interesting as a chatterbox. Its similar to the smarterchild of msn, but need something more specific. Was thinking of designing one that had knowledge on football, or something similar.

Thanks for the input people! Much appreciated.

Erm, you're looking for chat topics to be implemented into your chatterbox?

I think he meant a chatter bot. Why not research on how most chat bots are constrained and take it from there?

Well then, do something that is uncommon. Something you feel you you can limit the bounds of the logic to. For instance, make a bot that chats about astronomy(generally you can limit it to things like this solar system, galaxy or the universe). Maybe something you are interested in.

You need to come up with your own idea. We cant help you with that. We can only give general suggestion as to the hows rather than the what's.

make a chatbox that is useful, like a mechanic chatbox, teach ppl what is a spark plug, when to change engine oil, how to change a flat tire, and so on

You should try to explore urself more into chatter bot first....
u must examine atleast 5 different types with more than 15 mins with it (just my suggestions)

actually.... one of the good place to find chatter bot is online game!
u know why? because they are plenty of bots there

if u spends some times on researching.... even google and wiki, u will found some characteristics of chatter bot

1. They always use ambitious answer to reply u, such as "ok", "fine", "of course"
2. They always hv a certain amount time of delay (to simulate human typing speed)
3. They always capture the question statement like ("Do you", "why", "who")
4. Tooooooooooooooooooo many things about chatter bot.. u go spend few hours googling la

Do Your Own Research First....

There are plenty of topics you can highlight you know. Whatever intrigues you should do the trick.

Personally I like philosophy, so seeing one would be interesting albiet rather hard due to the broad nature of the subject.

Hold on. When you talk about a chatter bot, do you mean:

a) a bot that spouts out information based on a query, kind of like a Wikipedia you can ask:

QUOTE("Example")
<littlefox> !define love
<chatterbot> love (n). = emotion etc etc
<littlefox> !explain emotion
<chatterbot> Emotion is a biochemical response to stimuli. etc etc.
or

b) a bot that responds to conversation. For example:

QUOTE("Example")
<littlefox> Hello
<chatterbox> Hi littlefox! I'm Eliza. What do you want to talk about?
<littlefox> I've been having problems getting it up lately.
<chatterbox> Getting what up?
<littlefox> well, you know... that.
<chatterbox> And how does you know... that make you feel?
<littlefox> like less of a man
<chatterbox> Why do you think it makes you feel like less of a man?
<littlefox> barf nargle zous
<chatterbox> Is barf nargle zous important to you?
etc.
(a) is a very simple bot that no AI student can really call AI. It's not even an expert system. (b), on the other hand, is an example of an attempt to produce something that seems intelligent.

Which one are you talking about?

@Cheesenium: Yes, it looks like a do my homework topic, but it's an interesting one if he's talking about Turing-compliancy and the like.
