QUOTE(helo @ Nov 20 2009, 06:39 PM)
i am deciding between acer timeline 4810t , asus ul30vt, asus ul80vt, nokia, lenovo u450.
pls help me, but now i m attracted more to ul30vt but it does not have a dvd super drive!

any other suggestion?
*
if want dvd drive, consider dell inspiron 13z, unless you need some light gaming, acer 4810TG, asus ul30vt, ul80vt.

QUOTE(-kytz- @ Nov 20 2009, 06:39 PM)
Kinda pointless comparing performance when the resolution is different.SXPS 16 has an advantage by having the versatility to change its resolution
*
I did say run on default setting~

Hi..

I'm looking to get a laptop. I'm down to 3 options:

1. Toshiba T110
2. HP DV2
3. Lenovo S10-2

-> Primary usage:
1. Documentation
2. Emails
3. Browsing

Thanks in advance ya..  thumbup.gif

any requirement on battery life expectation?

unless price is an issue, can consider acer 1810T or acer ferrari one, better spec than toshiba but cheaper.
hp dv2, battery life is quite short comparing to those two.
lenovo s10-2 would be the cheapest but slowest performance.

if really heavy multi-tasking, better stay away from culv.
benq s42, same weight with t43 while still got some performance in it nod.gif

sxps 16 is much better choice though, just invest a better backpack to relieve some strain.

multitasking in what?
can just get any notebook with P-series processor.
13'': dell inspiron 13, hp dv3-2111tx
14'': samsung r470 for 2.5k, benq s42, asus u80v, asus k40in
15'': benq s57, asus k50in, dell sxps 16(best of all~)
best cpu can get, i7 on dell studio 15, rm 3999

sxps 16 is better(gaming), but not much in your usage, but is has good screen, speaker with subwoofer and 1920x1080 resolution (more content of website can be seen). of course its much more expensive than benq s57 at rm 3999.

since you don't need that much gpu power, can consider dell studio 15 with p8700 and perhaps up the screen resolution to 1920x1080 and warranty to 3 years.

but best all rounder for 4k is sxps 16~

c2d is of course better than amd athlon, but in this kind of budget, you can't get good gpu and c2d.

Asus K40AB/K50AB for rm 1999, amd athlon ql-65, ati hd4570, 2 years global warranty.

better take asus k40ab/k50ab, better gc, hd4570 at the price rm 1999.
flash games is really taxing on cpu, not gc.

but if can, studio 15 is better choice.

performance in what?
and athlon x2, what specific model?

amd athlon x2 usually lose to intel cpu in term of power crunching.
but is sufficient for average gaming, which rely more on gpu mostly, rather than cpu, except rts games, gta v, etc.

lee, i just got an offer for
Lenovo Y550-i7 WIN7HP 5902-6685 RM4799
CORE i7-720 /3MB/ 1333MHz / 4GB DDR3/ 500GB / DVDRW / NVIDIA GT240 1GB / 15.6"WXGA / BT / CAM / WIFI / CARD READER / WIN7HP

Looks pretty sleek. Seeing as you're a staunch supporter of the SXPS 16, any thoughts?
*
well, yeah that a good one, but you lose the onsite warranty from dell, and smaller resolution compared to sxps 16 to be cheaper rm 200.

dell, iirc, need to upgrade warranty to 3 years to get international, if the rule haven't change.

but better solution would be to buy it on US, since there got better offer and price smile.gif just need to tahan for couple months laugh.gif

well, in one way, smaller resolution means better performance in gaming, but in other time, bigger resolution means you will be having larger workspace, can see more lines in coding or less scrolling to read.

well, on there you can get coupons and such, like hp dv6t with i7 & gt230m for $999, or even last week, lenovo g550, comes with nvidia gt240m just for $580.

can check here for deals everyday
http://slickdeals.net/
or try to look for hp coupon, which usually can cut couple hundred dollars.
example: http://www.logichp.com/2009/11/16/deal-of-...-pavilion-dv7t/

is the 3 years warranty is international?

well, gt240m and hd4670 is comparable, but gt240m got physx, while hd4670 is slight better.

y550 is not really new, but less user bought it.

the rest is really subjective, the notebook style, resolution.

QUOTE(netbeans @ Nov 21 2009, 09:00 PM)
Battery life not a major deciding factor/criteria.

Yup.. Can include Acer 1810T in list of laptops to consider. When you say cheaper, how much is cheaper?
*
the toshiba t110 is using SU2700 and cost rm 2299. SU2700 is single core.
while acer 1810T is using SU4100 and cost rm 1899. SU4100 is dual core.
the other difference is toshiba is using ddr3 ram while acer is using ddr2, which is insignificant in performance wise.

QUOTE(kuriang @ Nov 21 2009, 09:20 PM)
Can u guys recommend me a value for money netbook
*
can consider acer 1410 at rm 1499, it size a little bit bigger than netbook, at 11.6'' but give much better overall performance than netbook due to dual core used in it,SU2300 and better graphic card, 4500mhd rather than single core atom and 2-old generation gma 950, whilst still can give a good amount of battery life, 5-6 hours browsing.
