I received my phone with 2.0.1, when I check for system updates under settings I get an error "unable to connect to the server". Is this normal? Does it detect an update only when there is one?

I still have the "unable to connect to server" error sad.gif

Also, I can't seem to find the auto system update option under my Settings>About phone section. Anyone else have the same problem?

Btw, APNdroid is not working for me. Any other app that can disable data connection but at the same time maintaining the MMS service?

+Phone feels snappier
+Pinch zoom in Maps
+Option to select 9 home pages!
+Volume rocker works as zoom in/out buttons in camera mode (though the picture quality still sucks big time)
+Integrate Facebook into Contacts

bro scpt your link did not work
*
1)Select HK region (if yours is a HK set, not sure if it matters though)
2)don't forget to tick the checkbox in step 3
3)download & install software (alternatively u can install the software from your driver cd), then let it search for your phone software update

How much if one were to buy the car mount & car charger set?

2.1 already roll out right?
but my set still don't have any update yet and my set is an Italian set >"<

I heard the European sets will get the official update by end of this month.

Regarding the Facebook contact sync, I encounter a problem. I have 2 friends with exactly the same name in FB, and when I synced it with my Milestone, it combined both into 1 contact. Anyone know how to separate them?

Also, how does the FB sync really work? I noticed that I have some phone and FB contacts combined into one contact, but most of them are not.

To separate the contact, select "Edit Contact" , then select the "Menu" button , select split/seperate.
There come with a "Join Contact" feature also.

Not sure how it work hmm.gif  hmm.gif
i thought it sync by email addrress but not all contact match correctly, but some FB contact created independent.

Added on March 24, 2010, 2:00 pmI had face another of FB contact.

I deleted a FB contact (before I know how to join with phone contact), it state the phone can't delete the contact, it just hide the contact only, i try to sync back with FB to show back that FB contact but failed, anyone know the solution??
*
Thanks alot, didn't see it earlier biggrin.gif Can sort them properly now

Did you un-tick your "only contacts with phone" under display options?

Hmm..not really sure bout it then.

Another problem, when I join contacts, sometimes it shows the contact name from FB, rather than the phone contact name rclxub.gif Perhaps its a bug? I would prefer it to show the phone contact name rather than the FB one

I'm experiencing random auto restarts of my phone after updating to 2.1. Am I the only one with this problem?

Did you do a factory erase and wipe from the bootloader? It can resolve a lot of problems.
*
I updated straight from the Motorola driver update software, I'm assuming the software didn't erase and wipe for me. And if I were to do that I need RSD lite, is that correct? Haven't try using RSD lite before.

The reboots are really random, can be from 12 hours uptime or 48+ hours then auto reboot.

You don't need RSD Lite. All you need to do is boot into bootloader mode. Refer to instructions from the internet. There will be some options. Use the D-pad to browse your selection. First do a factory reset, then wipe, then restart. Your phone will be returned to its original condition. Remember to backup before performing this.
*
Hmmm ok will try it later.

No problems with my HK ap set. Its recommended since its far more cheaper than the ori tongue.gif

It's also one of the best Android phones out there, plus it comes with 2.1 which most other Android devices still lack. Loving my Milestone, I still have lots of things to explore in this phone though biggrin.gif Overall, well worth the money

If motonav is worth the money, then i dunt mind purchasing it tongue.gif. Feel free to feedback more after you have used it intensively... but sounds like the initial review from you is good thumbup.gif

So far its not bad, though there was 1 rural area in Melaka which the maps isn't complete/accurate.

IINM, u pay 60USD for only a 2 year subscription for Motonav. Since I'm new to this, I'm not sure how other software like Garmin/Tomtom/Papago fare in pricing/subscription wise. So, I'm not really sure if the price is justified, but I'm sure everyone wants free lifetime maps even if we pay for it biggrin.gif

On a another note, my phone is still rebooting randomly even after I did a clean & wipe + reformat SD card. doh.gif It's frustrating, wonder if some downloaded apps are causing this issue. I've unistalled some apps that I had earlier to see if it still auto reboot.

The common type of application that might cause random reboot are home replacement, widget and task killer/task manager. Of course, you might just happen to have a bad unit too, i.e better went back to the service center if still under warranty and the problem persists.
*
QUOTE(Seaedge @ Apr 1 2010, 04:23 PM)
not surprised. some apps are made for cupcake/donut instead of 2.1.. so if you encounter some FC/reboot after installing some apps, probably that software is the cause of it.
*
Hopefully its due to some app. Still testing

QUOTE(davidmak @ Apr 1 2010, 05:20 PM)

But you need to check if their current version supports 2.1. Last I heard is 1.6 only but maybe they released new updates. Price is RM149 for the software. For maps, you get it free from Malfreemaps.com. They do have special promotion during PC Fair where price is RM99.
*
Hmm that seems to be quite a good price
