Hello. First i would like to congratulate Namjods for his topics on ASUS K40AB/K50AB. A great work really.

Then i would ask you to excuse me for my bad english because i'm french.

Well i have an ASUS K40AB and i decided to put Windows XP Pro SP3 because i'm fed up of Vista.

I switched SATA to IDE mode into the BIOS and the installation starded, everything was ok during the installation and i finally get the deskop and i started to instal the drivers that i downloaded from the asus support site.

Eveything worked appart from the graphic drivers...

First, during the installation of graphic drivers, an error occured, so I decided to install the drivers of the two graphic card manually. It worked and i check the status of the two graphic cards into the peripheric control panel. The both cards were recocnized, then i restarted my computer but after the Windows XP load screen, i get a black screen, and i can hear windows starting normaly.

I tryed to boot in a different mode to fix this issu but when i want to start windows into the " safe mode " or " safe mode with network " it doesn't work, i get a cursor on the top left of my screen and nothing happen.
VGA mode dosen't work too...
Last good cfg doesn't work too...

Well, i'm ready to install XP once again if someone has a solution to install properly the graphics drivers.

Thanks to every body who will read this message and one more time sorry for my english.

Well i think i found the solution from a forum of asus :

""

Refer to the following site.

http://support.asus.com/faq/faq.aspx?no=8D...SLanguage=en-us

Go to BIOS >> Advanced Settings >> VGA Mode Select. Select dGPU Mode. Save and exit. It will solve the problem.

""

I'm going to install XP again and try it.

Yes i droped some in it...

I'm going to try to clean it by doing what you suggest to me. I'm lucky all keys seem to work.

Thx man, i have an other question, i recently puted XP on my laptop, it works fine but my battery lost a lot of stamina, i mean, i can work 1h now, compare to 2h when it was vista....

An idea?

If you use PowerXpress, it wont work in XP. Why use XP when 7 is better?
*
Because many old games that i like to play to won't work with Seven, moreover, i use a samsung modem for my mobil connexion, which isn't recognized by Seven, ( Samsung SCH-U209 ).

I tryed many things in order to make it works but i didn't find anything apart from people who were crying because their modem does not work with Seven, juste like me.
The only thing that i can do is waiting for the Internet service provider ( it name is Wana, i'm in morroco actually ) to give us a solution...

That's why i decided to use XP ;D

It seems to work good but i have some questions :

- How can i manage to get K10 stats near to the windows clock permanently without having the windows open on m deskop ?

EDIT : Forget this question i have found the command -stayontray

- How can i do to get bak to my original CPU settings?

I rebooted my computer without lauching K10 stats and this is what i get :

Ty Najmod, so tell me what do you think of those settings:

When i'm on battery :

When i'm on sector but not playing :

When i'm on sector and playing :

And K10 stats run at session opening with those options :

-StayOnTray -nw -lp:2 -ClkCtrl:3

It's the first time i use this type of software so i don't really now how to set it!

EDIT : I forgot one thing, what is the original voltage of the processor? 1,2V? 1,15?

EDIT2 : I don't find the file k10stats.dat in the c:\windows\system32 directory and k10stats doesn't save the changes i do... wtf?

EDIT3 : Ok the solutions seems to be that you have to edit profils one by one or the software doesn't save changes.

EDIT4 :

QUOTE
as it can reach 2 hours usage with batteries in dGPU

How do you do? xD

Because you use XP, I don't think you could save up as much power as you do on later Windows version like 7. For maximum effectiveness, just run one profile, but you manually set the frequency at which it will run, say you just wanted to browsing, click on what P-state you want, for this example I wanted to run at P3 with 550MHz, so I clikc on P2 and '550' speed on both core and click apply, it will run 550MHz all the time, and that will save battery but the downside is you need to manually set it to higher speeds if you want to run on more taxing program/games

You could find original voltage and frequency on Profile you dont edit
*
Ok and what do you think of those settings ?

user posted imageuser posted imageuser posted image

When profil Battery is selected the CPU will alway run at 550Mhz with 0.75V

When Balanced is selected it allows you to reduce CPU temperature while juste browsing on sector or just doing some deskop applications.

When high is selected, in order to play game for example, your CPU runs always at his max speed with an undervolted input which allows CPU to get cooler, but does it affect performances???? I don't know.

Don't you think that it's better than setting manually frequency? Here i just have to change the profil, it's really faster.

And in an older post you said that you are able to get 2h from your battery in dGPU mode, I know that it will be hard with XP but can you tell me how do you do that because i wanna try!

PS : srry for bad english^^ ( French )

Ok Najmods.

For HD4570 memory speed, 150Mhz seems to be the minimum, i tryed 100Mhz but when i launched a video, there were some perturbations on my screen.
With core at 100Mhz and memory at 150Mhz, i can look a movie without any problem.

I'm doing a test of my battery tonight, i'm going to see how many time i can reach with processor 550Mhz/7.5V and HD4570 core 100Mhz / Memory 150Mhz all the time in dGPU mode.

I'll tell you the result tomorow !

Result of my battery test :

Windows XP pro SP3
CPU - Speed : 550Mhz - Voltage : 7,5V - All the time same settings
HD4570 - Core : 100Mhz - Memory : 150Mhz - Voltage : 0,9V - All the time same settings in dGPU mode
Luminosity 0% (min)
Peripheric conected : Only an USB 3G+ modem

Résult : 1h 50min, just browsing on internet and chatting on Windows live messenger.

So I think that without the 3G+ modem I can reach 2h+ which would allow me to look a movie for exemple tongue.gif

After that i did some tests in order to overclock my HD4570 and i found some amazing results

First i did a Street fighter IV benchmark with defaut settings for HD4570 ( Core : 680Mhz - Memory : 500Mhz ) and Max speed but undervolted processor (Speed : 2200Mhz - Voltage : 1,075V), same settings all the time.

The CPU reached the max temperature of 78°C and the GPU Reached the max temperature of 96°C. I was a little bit surprised by those high temperature without any overclocked hardware and moreover with an undervolted CPU...

I did the same test while overclocking my HD4570 this time (Core : 700Mhz - Memory : 600Mhz) and still CPU at max speed and undervolted (Speed : 2200Mhz - Voltage : 1,075V)

And the result is amazing too. CPU reached 76°C only and GPU 94°C only. I was expecting to get higher temperature than the previous but overclocking my HD4570 doesn't seem to have any effect on the temperature. However it gives me a huge boost in FPS in Street Fighter IV Benchmark (70+ FPS against 60+ without overclocking).

So i wonder, are the temperatures normal or too high?

Do i do something wrong?

Thanks for reading and sry for bad english !

Battery life is on par with me actually, I have slightly higher at about 2 hours. The temperature is fine. Keep the CPU undervolted, it won't reduce your CPU speed but it will definitely keeps the temperature low.

The reason why the temperature is the same maybe because you just running simple game, not stress test software
*
Ok so i don't have to worry about the 96°C of the GPU? And when you say that it will definitely keeps the temperature low, you considere that 78°C is a low temperature?

I would like to know, what is the defaut voltage of the CPU? 1,2V or lower? Thanks for your help.

Read around this thread, there are poeple who get over 100C for GPU but still play games just fine.

I don't know, its your responsibility to remember the stock voktage and clocks on your CPU before altering with them. I using Athlon X2 QL-64, I don't know if the voltage is the same or not. Best thing to do is Google

Ok, i'm gonna look for it. Thx for your help man !

Have you download the latest VIA driver from the first page?

I did but from this site :

http://www.touslesdrivers.com/index.php?v_page=29

I think that my drivers are up to date.

Get your driver directly from Asus or VIA site. More reliable. Less Issues.

Hi, just while playing DMC4. Works perfectly with any other game and in windows (that's what i believed).

I have now found the origin of this sound problem but let me explain you what I have discovered. It may help people who have the same issu.

Well, i had finally the same drivers that are linked in the first page (v7300a) so my drivers were up to date. But when Nagenaz told me to get the drivers directly from ASUS or from VIA website because it was more reliable, i had an idea. As you know the lastest VIA drivers aren't available on ASUS Support website. I decided to try to go back to the old drivers version from ASUS Support.

It worked. I launched DMC4 and the sound was f***ng right. Moreover, the intro of the game which was freezing for an unknown reason before has worked perfectly.
I performed a performance test in the game and what i saw was amazing. A f***ing huge huge boost in FPS (80fps on average against 40fps when i had no sound).

Well, by discovering that, i decided to perform an other test to see if what i believed was true.

Until now i had a small issu with the game Colin Mcrae Rally Dirt. The game was too much laggy in 1024*600 even with all settings low (especially in races with opponents like buggy race)

In 800*480, the game was "playable" but still a little bit laggy in races with opponents, but playable (still all settings low)
When i performed some test with those settings i discovered that my CPU was all the time at 100% and my GPU was used only at 70-80%. I was wondering why but didn't find anything and was thinking that Dirt was a game which required a f***ing good CPU.

After the boost that i saw in DMC4, i decided to see the result on Dirt.

800*480 with all settings low : CPU at 60-70% and GPU at 80% and game playable (no lag even with opponents)
1024*600 with all settings low : CPU at 70-80% and GPU at 100% and game playable (little little lag in games with opponent)

I hope you're understanding what i try to explain, it seems that for me the last VIA HD Audio drivers package (v7300a) was causing an anormal high usage of my CPU apart from the fact that it didn't word with DMC4.

That's why i advices you all to perform some test especially if you have an anormal CPU usage while playing some games.

The cause of this issu may be that i'm using windows XP, or maybe it is just an issu between RM-74 cpu and last VIA HD Audio package, i don't know but now it works perfectly for me.

So thanks to CAPCOM !! Without DMC4 i would have never found that !!

Thanks for reading and srry for bad english i'm a f***ing frenchy.

EDIT : And thanks to Nagenaz ;D
