80 fps on DMC4.. thats very very high for me?? is it due to the sound driver or the old graphic driver u may have used??
*
I don't know but i think that's it's due to the settings i made.

I set the game at 1024*600 with everything low, shadows high (it's the lowest setting apart from desactivate it) and V-sync off.
Without overclocking the HD4570, those settings give to me 75-80 fps on average during the DMC4 benchmark against 40-45 fps when i had the lastest audio drivers from VIA website.

V-Sync off gives a huge boost in fps but it creates some little scaling issu while playing which are sometimes anoying.

For example in Street fighter 4, V-sync OFF is ok for me but i turned it ON in DMC4 because i prefer to have a good video quality in this game.
I have now 50-60 fps during the performance test (V-Sync ON).

With those settings i find the game pretty and it's very playable, no lag to deplore.

Note that if you turn the V-Sync ON, you really should turn the triple buffering to ON into the CCC, or you will get a too important diminution of your FPS.

For the drivers that i use, they are all from the ASUS support (Windows XP version) apart from lan drivers that i have upgraded to the lastest version, but i don't think they are important.

@Najmods : For your game start problem, i don't see what could be the cause. Did you try directx9 version? (maybe you're already using this one even if you're using Seven ^^) or launching the game as Admin? I think you've already try all this options...
I'm gonna seek. Wait and see.

I played red alert 2 (old game, but still cool tongue.gif) on this lappy, but couldn't make the screen resolution to widescreen. sad.gif

Playing starcraft on mine ;D

Didn't find anything about your problem najmods but you can try the sound drivers because many people have sound issu with this game.
Oh and make sure that SLI is off in the config.ini files.

Well apart from this, I'm wondering, is it possible to reduce the fan speed when computer is booting? It does a lot of noise and i don't think that it's useful.

Please don't bother about the fan noise. I think there is logic behind that, it may helps to clear out dust build-up in side the fan & keep it working at optimum condition.

Hehe i wasn't seeing it from that point of view tongue.gif

Hi guys, it's hard to compare i'm using XP and you're using Seven.

I just uninstalled the lastest Audio drivers from VIA and installed the ones from ASUS support website and now my CPU never go upper than 80-85% while playing.

On Asus support website, drivers audio version for XP is 6.0.1.7133.
For Seven x86 it is 6.0.1.7333. So the drivers on ASUS support website for Seven are more recent than the one for XP.

But Najmods and batusai, what about your CPU usage when playing game?

I think that's it's hard to know if there is an issue related to the audio drivers because with the lastest ones from VIA, my CPU was 100% all the time on CMR Dirt even with low resolution and my FPS was low on DMC4, but for example in SF4, it was the same as now with the older ones, 60-70% on average during the game benchmark. So it seems that the audio issue isn't present for all games or all applications.

How long does you CPU stay at 50%? A few second? More? It stays at 50% all the time?

EDIT : You can try to download an older audio package from VIA website and see if there is a difference.

Speaking about sound problem, sometimes when I fresh boot windows 7, there is no audio although the media player is running on the background.

Then after restart it just works normally. I am getting this problem since September and there are others who have the same problem as me in Asus support forum.

Although a quick restart solves the problem, I find it quite annoying. I'm suspecting the sound driver to be the culprit.
*
Huuuum. This happened to me many times with the lastest audio drivers from VIA. Just after a complete boot, no more audio and VIA HD Audio displayed in the peripherals manager with a yellow question mark. I was obligated to reboot the computer to get sound back. But for the moment, it didn't happen again with the older ones from ASUS Support website.

Edit : Nagenaz you can try an older driver pack from VIA website, if it does not work good, just go back to the one from ASUS.

Sertek, you wrote that previously you were using Vista then decided to dump it in favor of XP. Why not try Windows 7 instead ?
*
I tryed and i'm going to install Windows 7 in dual boot with XP (didn't already done that because repartionning my HD without re-installing XP takes a lot of time with Acronis Disk Doctor suite for example). But for the moment i'm using XP because there is no drivers for my 3G+ modem under Seven ( Samsung SCH-U209), and i need this mobil connexion. Moreover i like to play some old game and there is still some incompatibily with Seven ( PES2008 for example )

CPU usage is fine when gaming, when I mean its fine, only the game itself tha tuses CPU and not other unwanted process robbing performance.
*
With the lastest drivers from VIA, while playing CMR Dirt, no processus apart from the game was using the CPU, but Dirt was using CPU at 100% and GPU only at 80%. I want to say that in normal situation, if you're playing a game, GPU at 100% must be reach before CPU at 100%. If it's not the case i think there's a problem.

Maybe Dirt is more CPU intensive rather than GPU intensive game?  hmm.gif
*
That's what i was thinking but how do you explain that :

Dirt all settings low at 800*480 with lastest VIA drivers : Cpu 100% all the time, GPU 80% and game very laggy.
DMC4 benchmark with lastest VIA Drivers : 40 FPS

Dirt all settings low at 1024*600 with Audio drivers from ASUS support : CPU 85% max, GPU 100% and game playable.
DMC4 with Audio drivers from ASUS support : 80 FPS

Well i since i put the old audio drivers, i have better performance in many game, Dirt, DMC4, PES2008...
But there is some game where there is no difference : Street Fighter4, Assassin's Creed...

So i really think that there were an issue with my audio drivers.

That is interesting finding. I think I'll try to download the older driver and see whether it could improve game performance

On the other hand, for you guys to achieve lower temperature when gaming, lower the GPU voltage.

In some older games you don't need 680MHz 1.2V, I found that even with 0.9V the GPU frequency can reach around 540MHz while still being very cool. 1V could take you to 620MHz while 1.1V could reach 720MHz, and the maximum 1.2V could reach 780MHz.

But because it only use DDR2 memory, I suggest keep the core at stock clock and just ramp up the memory to the max. I found some thermal pad from old card and used it to cool down memory, I could eek out a little bit more from it as a result biggrin.gif
*
Hum that's very interesting, i was wondering if 1.1V was enough when you overclock HD4570 at 700Mhz/600Mhz.

And i'm planning to flash the BIOS of my card in order to overclock/downclock it keeping powerplay active, but i little bit fear to kill my card because it's not listed in Radeon Bios Editor even if i can acquire the BIOS and see that the clock are right...... Moreover i didnt succed getting the BIOS of the card with ATIflash so i won't try to flash the BIOS with it lol...

Yes it can run 700MHz with 1.1V.
*
Even if memory is at 600Mhz?

QUOTE
Its risky to flashing BIOS, not because its hard but there is lacking support, there is lots of software that unable to read the GPU properly. Even after few months this GPU has been released, even overclocking is hard, only GPU Clock Tool are able to overclock it, others just can read the clock but unable to overclock it. I found a software to acquire the BIOS and editing the clock but its too risky. The software name is RBE, Radeon BIOS Editor. Try at your own risk, I'm not responsible for any hardware/software damage because of it.

You can overclock the HD4570 with Rivatuner too, there is a tuto here :

http://twisted-reviews.com/overclocking-at...-hd4650-hd4670/

I know that it is risky to flash the BIOS, that's why i didn't do that for the moment^^
I'm just annoyed by having to reboot my computer in order to get powerplay back.

Memory voltage is fixed, the voltage I mentioned is just for the GPU, even if you run at 0.9V you could still maxed the memory speed

Lol didn't know that ! Thx

Thanks for the RivaTuner tweak, I appreciate that wink.gif

You're welcome man. I Hoppe they will soon add HD 4570 to the supported card in RBE ! Need to overclock my card and keep powerplay ;D !

regarding the Audio thingy..

I've tried running dirt 2... with all low settings and native resolution... CPU usage was only around 75%.. GPU is around 80%.. with FRAPS reading 35 average

hmm.. does it means problem with the audio driver?

and about AMD overdrive.. how do you tweak the memory clock speed??
from everest.. the memory clock shows 666MHz.. i guess that optimum right?

im gonna try out windows audio driver and see how it goes..

I am gonna try
*
Everything seems to be alright. Try to set a better resolution in order to get your GPU working at 100% and tell us then what's the CPU usage.

QUOTE
so which software are good when OC???

AMD GPU Clocktool or RivaTuner???

Anyone can clarify?
Both work fine. AMD GPU Clocktool allows you to set the voltage while Rivatuner does not (or maybe i don't know how to use the software xD)

EDIT : Oh i forgot one thing. Since i downgrade my OS to XP, i can't manage to make the integrate microphone works again. Anyone know what could be the cause? And don't tell that's because you uses old audio drivers lol cause i had the same issue with the lastest drivers from VIA.

In cfg panel i juste have this option :

user posted image

It seems to be the jack of the VIA HD Audio but i don't have any other microphone... Thanks for help.

o_O? Strange, but it's better than having no 4570 xD

Your BIOS is up to date i suppose? And you did use the right drivers modded with the tool etc etc...?

Yes i know, was using this microphone with Vista. I think that's a microphone integrate with the camera but i'm not sure.

Why is every body obsessed by having all their 4GB of ram available? They will never use it at 100%... Useless....

Hi guys !

Otaiboz, update your bios with the lastest version it's stable and it doesn't cost anything, but i think you should send your laptop to warranty in order to be sure that's not a hardware issue.

Well, can anyone tell me the name of the internal microphone of the laptop? I can't manage to find it, i think it's because i use XP, a screen of the panel would be appreciate ! Thanks!

I don't use XP so I can't help you but is there any device that don't have any driver in device manager?
*
No that is the matter. I don't have anything in the device manager. I just want to see the name of the integrate microphone in the control panel, even if you're using seven it can help me. I don't know what is the name of the harware device so i can't seek for any solution on the net...

Just want to see a screen of the sound panel option where you can select the internal microphone or the VIA input jack.
