great.. windows need the achi driver on the first install..
i suspected ur old bios use enhanced ide on first setup.. so windows cannot find the driver..
that's why got problem..

u can tweak it btw.. but need to hack the registry..
since the performance is same.. just use ide is ok..

if asus disable it purposely.. i guess no other option we can enable it..
this is totally new batch.. as IIRC my friend's k50ab came with linux OS.. mine don't have..

his' came with 3200, not sure though have stated on the sticker..
but mine just stated 4570..

Guys i am little confused here about the bios thingy. I am still using Bios 2.16. Didn't encounter any problems with this version. ( What is the problem actually?) Should i go for Bios 2.13 or just wait for future bios update.
*
hmm.. i had 216 too.. but kinda gave me a few blue screen.. so i switched back to 213.. and it seems to work fine.. so im keeping on 213...

basically theres no problem with 213 and 216.. just see which one is more stable.. and use it.. and of course.. if theres a future bios update.. use it..

ur fren's lappy is the first batch of k50ab which im having.. and yes it has 3200..

IMO... asus disable 3200 in the newer batches.. maybe they are unable to get a solution for the smooth switching..

i've just switched to Win 7 64bit. used latest cat 9.10 and bios ver 216.

the graphic switching doesnt work, it stays at 3200 and it says my 4570 cannot be started.

solution: go to bios, used dGPU mode. simple. now no worry about switching anymore.

if their model have the switching.. means ur set has hardware problem..

nah,if u install Window with 64 bit (i assume) then the lappy cant use the switching mode of Graphic card.

When i try dual boot with Window Vista,it possible to switch,i guess ASUS didnt support this lappy for Window 7 or 64 bit i guess.

nah... it's MS refuse to support hybrid graphic in Windows at all...

the current driver from ATi and Nvidia are basically a work around only... it's not really officially supported...

so it probably means that MS may have changed sth fundamentally in Win7 compared to Vista, and ATi has yet to have a solution for that...

it's because of the driver..
actually vista not support separate gpu.. win xp n win 7 can..
the problem is ati mobility is not that updated..

Anyway i have a theory about the RAM OC, since most of DDR2 these days are made at minimum 333mhz double pumped to 667mhz speed, the HD4570 DDR2 theoretically can support until 667mhz. So how high you guys can go for GPU memory OC ?

Considerable amount of temperature raise?

For the LCD cleaning, IMHO the lesser i clean the better - Minimize the chances of getting scratch.

it all depends on the quality of the chip used...

DDR2 can go as low as 400MHz DDR according to JDEC standard... and unofficially, 1333MHz DDR is possible too...

Its more economical to get those 667mhz DDR2 widely stocked chips then run it at stock 500mhz to save energy & lessen the heat. I'm just guessing with 667mhz DDR2 chips as some can go above 600mhz b4 BSOD. It fills in the characteristic of a 667mhz chip.

depends on the nano seconds rating of the ram...
