QUOTE(leongal @ Oct 10 2009, 12:20 PM)
I have been renting a master bedroom for 3 years. At the start, I paid 2 months of deposit. Nothing was sign, it was a verbal agreement. But, I still keep the transfer slip with me on the deposit.

I am about to move out of this room as I am about to get an apartment of my own. Can I get back my rental deposit when I want to move out or do I have to stay in the current room for the next two months (i.e. I need to inform my housemate that I am moving two months prior to my moving out)?

Or, do I discuss this with my housemate?

Any idea? Thanks.

At the start u only pay 2 months of deposits and did you check whether what types of deposits are that?

If it is meant for the electricity+water and miscellaneous deposits, you have to inform your housemate and your landlord which u paid the deposits to. You can get back the full amount if there is no outstanding bills amount and the room that rented to you is under good conditions.

If it is meant for rental deposits, did you pay for the rental of your 1st month stay? if yes, then u can utilize the two months rental for your two months stay. If you didn't pay the 1st month rental at the beginning, you can utilize it for one month stay.

since all are in verbal agreement, so you have to talk to housemate and the landlord that you paid the deposits to.
