Yes but then I thought they said Symbian is a dead OS?
About Symbian history.
First of all,Symbian is a company that develope a operating system for mobile phone bacause several mobile phone manufacturer(Nokia,Ericsson,Alcatel,Samsung,Siemens,Sony and some Japan companies...)don't want to rely on windows mobile anymore. So these few mobile phone manufacturer invest to develope a new operating system.
This system is free for these few companies but Nokia and Ericsson(Sony Ericsson) are most active and aggresive in applying Symbian OS into their mobile phones.Symbian become the largest operating system service provider since year 2001.Nowadays,Symbian OS is still the most recognized OS in the market.45% of market share.
At year 2008,Nokia take over Symbian and it became one of Nokia subsidiary company but it still provide Symbian OS for FREE.Many mobile phone manufacturer still using Symbian OS because it has the largest market share. For example, i8910 Omnia HD and Satio.
Quantity of 3rd party applications for Symbian up-to-date is Number 1 in the market, other competitor Apple OS-2,Android OS-3,Linux,Maemo OS-4Palm OS-5,Windows Mobile OS-6.(i think Symbian supported so many 3rd party applications because Symbian have long history in the market.XD)
